I don't like giving my rival a stupid or immature name, I just tend to either take the name from the anime or manga.

Kanto rival : Blue... plain and simple I dislike Gary.
Johto rival : Silver, since obviously there isn't any other name to give him...
Sinnoh rival : Pearl was to girly of a name to be perfectly honest so I use the name from the anime ; Barry.

This question is pretty wide for me..because the name of my rival completely depends on the mood i'm when i start the game..
my yet another fire red hack rival is called jelle.
and i also gave a rival the name: Razor. From razor987 lol.
and i even give them names of real person rivals.
like someone who is now gone but was colleague of my work, he always called me mouse.. Because i was less  broad or big as him. As the matter of fact.. He was not even a 1/5 head bigger then me.. But he just had a lot of muscles.. lol
i his name was Mitchell./ Michael. And so is the rival of the game i'm currently playing the most "fire red generations".
