There are lots of Internet tablets these days... from E-Readers that were given expanded capabilities like the Nook Color and Kindle Fire to the iPad to the Nexus7... but there are also tons of other brands I've never heard of before (Arnova, Zeki, Nextbook, etc...) I'd like to hear from anyone who's ever owned or used one a significant amount. Which was it and how well did it work? I'm especially curious about the lesser known ones. I've always contemplated buying one, but I don't want it to be a piece of crap.

So far, I've heard very good stuff from a friend about the Nexus, but I'm not sure I wanna spend $200 for one. Some of the lesser brands can be bought for as low as $99 but I don't know if it's worth it or that's just throwing away the money.

"Have you ever used a tablet?"

No I haven't. I'm not a technology savvy person. Those kinds of things don't interest me because I find little to no use for it. Not to mention they break easily and are expensive.

I have family members with Ipads though, they seem to really like it, especially the younger ones.

If you'd really like to hear reviews on the product, you can google or search it.

Nope, never used a Tablet before.

I'm not very interested on them to be honest... They are just like a normal computer, but without the Keyboard and mouse. (in my opinion.)

No. They just seem like over-sized smart phones, except without being able to call anyone. I bet it's nice for watching videos, but it just does not seem practical.

YourMajestyKen : I'm not really looking for product reviews... I'm just interested in people's personal experiences in general. To look through product reviews basically means searching for EVERY product on the market and reading reviews on various sites which is kinda tedious for something I'm not even sure I want.

I just wanna know if tablets have any real value in general and maybe specific brands people are familiar with and how those worked out.

I have not and I have no plan to; I have a laptop. I have no need for a tablet. It's an unnecessary waste of money, in my opinion.

I've used plenty, though never owned one. I can see the merit in them for certain types of people, like those who only use their computers for facebook and youtube, tablets are an inexpensive and portable way to do things like that.

They're just not for me. Heck, I don't even like laptops all that much.

Yes I have used a tablet and I think they are useless... Especially with phones getting more and more advanced each month... It's more of a useless gadget than anything else.. Like Lazlo said.. It's just a portable source of entertainment when you want to play certain games or brows certain sites....

Lazlo Falconi : I agree as well I don't particularly like laptops either... but I'm not really in the position to stop using mine

Wow, when reading this thread, I found myself more and more surprised!  I thought EVERYONE was in love with tablets for some odd reason.  All the kids at school seem to HAVE to have one, and they carry them around like eye candy.    I was wondering what was so great about them, so I bought a small one to try out myself.

What a freaking useless piece of equipment!!!!!!  I did NOT understand the purpose of it at all.  I got it with the mind that I could use it for two things: playing an online text game wherever I might be, and to input my grades.  The stupid thing could do neither.  It wouldn't even let me input my grades because the grade fields were un-selectable.

And I don't even understand the purpose in all of little application thingies.  I mean, you can get most of those on your phone.  I don't use internet on my phone... it's for making calls.

Basically, it seemed like a useless produce designed to keep kids happy with small silly games... most of whose quality are far worse than Angry Birds.

Pointless, pointless, pointless.

I returned mine the next day and got my money back.

I have used one, but never really owned one myself

My mom had gotten on from RCA (Rent-A-Center) for about 20 a moth or week or something like that

Well i didnt get to use it as much unless we were on a long car ride or before i went to bed i used it to read some books

I liked it for it's books, and nothing else really

My mom kind of liked it but was sometime fustrated with useing it wishing she could just get a computer instead of a tablet

We had returned it not too long ago

Singelli : I have a friend who wanted to use it as a way to take notes for his classes (college) and be able to do on-the-fly web research. When I asked why he didn't just get a smartphone (since to me that seems to consolidate the use of a tablet and a cellphone into one device), he also said that he only uses his phone to make calls and he doesn't want it to do anything else.

I've used tablets and enjoyed some of the applications
They seem to be handy to carry around but as others here have pointed out, so are phones
I found if I wanted to do anything serious, the tablet just doesn't have the memory
I always manage to fill my hard drive so I don't think I would have a use for a tablet

I use my kindle fire all the time. The touch controls can be kind of annoying when using a browser, but it is still really convenient.

I have used several. I own a Kindle 2nd Gen and an iPhone 5. If you take time to think about what you want to use it for, it's easier to see if the device is worth it.  I have no real use for a tablet because the devices I already use handle my personal needs. Some schools are slowly working in the idea of using tablets for all lessons instead of needing books (something that is more common already in Japan.)

Some tablets can make phone calls and do Face Time, so they aren't "just for movies or games" and sometimes it is helpful just to have a larger screen to work on. Tablets are lighter and easier to carry than laptops, but again it just depends on your need. Many hospitals use them in conjunction with personal computers to transfer patient data including x-rays. Could you imagine being a doctor having to take a quick look at an x-ray while on the move using the tiny screen of your smartphone?  Some businesses use them for easy access of information to show to a larger group of people: again, can you see 5 people huddled tightly trying to look at an Android?

I have only briefly used one, and to be honest I wasn't impressed with it. To me they are just over sized iphones, and if its a choice between spending 200 plus on one, I would rather just use my phone that does exactly the same job.
Some people I know rushed out to get one, because it was the new thing. They didn't need it they just wanted it, I see no point in having one myself o.o But that's just what I think

No.
They are too fragile.
Many advertisements show them in use on beaches or while the operator is in water. (Just an excuse to show models in swimsuits).

Another famous item, the "combo laptop/tablet" commercial. Where Kids are throwing the thing around like a football comes to mind.

These adds are absurd.
I do not throw around hundreds of dollars like I can .."make it rain in he-re." On a regular
basis.

Adds like these get on my nerves. Only due to how silly I have seen people respond to them and have no idea of the words "false advertising."

Back to the product....
1) They are too Fragile for my taste.
2) I would have to get used to using a computer in a new way. It would make me less productive than I am now. (It would slow me down too much.)
3) I would have to build a carrying device for it. (I employ the brief case with Foam you can cut yourself to fit whatever device you need. Attache cases are fine too if you want to be a little flashy, and have no need to travel on a plane. Tool Boxes are my favourite to use due to the fact that most folks do not get too nosey about it and it can hold the lunch as well.)

Back on task...

If you work and traverse in an enviornment that has nothing but six figure salaries and no need for henchmen standing at the door when you have a conference???
It could be a useful tool.
For the rest of us mere mortals?
It looks like more headaches than the modern laptops or cell phone/computers.
For college Kids?
No.
I still recommend a tape recorder for the lectures, a legal pad for chalk board notes, and standard binder paper for regular notes. Blue ink, or Black ink for logging. Pencil or Red ink for scratching/crossing out mistakes. (It is always good to know where you get lost. Often the info recorded here is a personal story of irrelevance. ...Don't tell the professor that though.)

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

I've used my friend's Android Tablet, and it was pretty great, and really open. I would buy one.

He got his for 200 bucks, and I was shocked at that because an iPad costs way more than that, but his seems a lot better than an iPad. He hooked up a Dualshock 3 to his tablet and phenlayed PSX games, which is really cool.

I'll probably buy one when I get employed.
