Pretty simple thread. I'm curious what the weirdest candy concept you've ever come across is (has to be real). If you've actually eaten it, then how was it? Was it what you expected at all?

There are a lot of weird candies I've seen over the years, but the most recent that comes to mind was a Pumpkin & Spice variety on Hershey's Kisses that they introduced for the Fall. It really made me do a double-take because Hersey's Kisses to me have always been chocolate. There didn't seem to be anything chocolate about this candy. It was just shaped like a Hersey's Kiss but all Pumpkin.

Well, I decided to try it. I do like the taste of pumpkin and I don't know what arbitrary seasoning food manufacturers label as "spice" but that always tastes good to me too. I have to say that I kind of like it, but at the same time, I was blown away by it. It was definitely the weirdest tasting thing I've eaten in recent memory. The spice was REALLY strong too.

So anyone else have stories of odd candy flavors they've come across?

Flavors? Oh no no, I had a whole different candy experience one day.
I was in a store, I had some money, and I felt adventurous. So I got this milkshake type thing...
But the candy was at the bottom. These little marble sized jelly blobs that were assorted flavors... It was a really weird candy experience.

pokemonfangirl : That fortune-telling gum sounds like it would be fun. Although I wonder how the gum tells you what your fortune (is it on the wrapper, on the gum, or maybe it doesn't actually tell you a fortune.)

The strangest candy i have ever heard of and have tasted is the "Watchamacallit" i think i spelt it right i hope i did, but its strange named and it has a strange taste.

I think I've heard that Japan has 100s of Kit Kat bar flavors? Not entirely sure, but it's flavored however you think it could be, like ketchup flavor, Tabasco, etc.

There was this bottle of coke I had imported from Korea... I drank the coke, and stared at the label to find out that the bottle was made out of edible plastic... It tasted like coke too. My mom saw me eating the bottle and just kinda stared at me with her mouth open.

My brother once got this cotton candy making machine. You were literally suppose to only have to add some sugar and water, and food coloring of your choosing, and it'd make cotton candy for you.


Well, we added all that jazz, and my brother decided to use blue food coloring because it was literally all we had, so... why not.


I was quite afraid when the fact he stuck the cotton candy handle of the machine and there it was like all... goopy like. Almost like a slushy. Except there was steam coming off of it. It certainly wasn't cotton candy. My brother tried it and apparently said it tasted like burnt crisp with a tinge of marshmellow in it. After it cooled it was all stringy and snot like and it turned from a weird gray color to sort of a blueish grey.



I have no idea what was wrong with that machine, it was supposed to be brand new. But it certainly never made any cotton candy thats for sure. No matter what we did with it, it just kept making stuff that looked like it was about to catch on fire.

Sairek Ceareste : I hope you got your money back for it then. Sounds defective. I was always curious about machines where you can make your own sweet treats... now I'm going to be a bit more cautious about the idea.

Definitely sounds defective. I've had a cotton candy making machine before and it worked perfectly fine... until I ran out of the cotton candy sugar, anyhow. When it says "add sugar," there's a specific type of sugar - for cotton candy - that you're supposed to use. Not just any sugar.

pokemonfangirl : Man smell gum?  Ew. I already smell like a guy, I don't need to be chewing gum that smells like me too!

Razzles, when you eat them, they first taste like candy, but then it turns into gum. They were really popular in the 80's but I don't see what the big fuss was about them. I never really took to those.

Now Pop Rocks would be my favorite odd candy that I've tried. I actually like those.

The weirdest candy I ever had was candy corn. Every time I eat it, I throw up. I think I'm not going to go trick or treating.

Hunter33 : Hey candy apples are awesome. Apples are a pretty sweet and delicious fruit to begin with... but add on the goodness of caramel and you have something truly awesome.

And I'm pretty sure the process of making the candy apple kills any of the healthiness factor in it... I mean that stuff will at least rot your teeth or something.

I have a friend who travels a lot, and for Halloween, she puts foreign candy outside for the children.  Recently, I've tried this candy from her that was a hard candy, and the wrapper had Osama Bin Laden's face on it, to celebrate his death I think..?  That's the weirdest candy I've ever tried.  It also tasted awful too. >.<

Honestly, I'd be afraid to eat candy with Bin Laden's face on it o.o;;;

I'd wonder if it was poisoned or something.

I know some of the candies you can get at the stores down south are really far out. Definitely a cultural experience a person needs to try once.
