So apparently someone went nuts and shot up a bunch of people at the midnight screening of the dark knight rises premiere here in aurora colorado killing 14 people and injuring over 50 others.

It doesn't really surprise me that it happened in aurora that place is a dump filled with crime and thugs.

Is this going to result in TSA at movie theaters? What are your thoughts? One thing is for sure, this person was looking to get national and or global headlines.

Just saw this on the other board I go to. Was about to make a thread in General but looked here first. WTF is wrong with people? Last I read there 14 dead and 50 wounded, some having been in the next theater over. And an infant was shot at point blank? Christ, a movie theater of all places. I can imagine those who survived are going have a fear of going to a theater for quite a while. If crap like this keep happening I guarantee pat downs will start being required.

Haven't seine it yet but I really like the others of the series and I think the one with the joker was the best one so far it was pritty awesome. And the joker was so evil in it. If the new one is any ting like that one it will be pritty good. Ive been seeing the advertisement on tv and it look pritty interesting so its more than likely I'll see it soon. I try to watch all the movie makes of the comic books. That they come out with I can remember when X2 came out they gave out comic books of the movie at the theater I saw it at. With was pritty cool I thought I think they should do that with all the marvel comic movies they come out with.

Yes, I heard about this a little earlier today, and I was quite shocked. It's a very sad and horrifying thing. I am quite curious as to see what this man's motive was, even though he was probably just insane and didn't have a motive.

This is just sick. I'm not sure what the laws are in Colorado but the survivors and the loved ones of the ones who were killed deserve justice.

I heard that the guy referred to himself as the Joker. I think this is a great example of just how some movies, some games and angry music are greatly influencing our society. Seems like our society just keeps getting more deranged all the time and someone needs to find out the cause and figure out a solution to put an end to this. Pretty soon we'll all have to get pat downs before entering any place.

There are some really crazy people out there. Could you imaging sitting there thinking your life might be over just from being in a movie at the wrong time? Crazy to think about that.

Anyway I was just horrified by what I am hearing on the news. I am sure that all those who survived will have a hard time returning back to daily life. I used to go to the local movie theater a lot it's hard to imagine someone coming in and killing everyone. It also brings home how there is really no security in theaters. All the theaters I have gone too are practically run by teenagers. There are no guards and no security devices. I bet that will change after this horrible tragedy.

I am keeping those dead and those that survived in my prayers... I do pray that those who survived are able to make a speedy recovery from this...

thenumberone : How would that have prevented this? He didn't buy his guns, they weren't registered in his name - if guns were banned people would still find ways to get them. Actually banning guns would make it harder to find out who is responsible for a killing (not talking about this one but deaths involving guns in general). Don't blame the gun, blame the person who uses it, if he really wanted, he could've created a home made bomb and blew the whole place up (based on the college education he had, he probably had the skill level to do this).

Davideo7 : Actually, you're not too far off on that. He rigged a bomb in his appartment that took a long time to disarm due to how sophisticated it was, if I recall correctly.

When I woke up this morning I saw what happen on the news and it was hard to listen to one of the witnesses describe his experience going through the shooting. For someone to go through all the stuff that the shooter did and actually have the nerve to do it is insane. Whatever his sentence is going to be won't fit the crime, in no way, shape, or form.

Man, I heard about it all this morning. This is just terrible. People just want to go see a movie, and then they are either killed or injured. That's just crazy.

I just wonder how long the guy had this planned out.

If they had firearms in their possession it could have but if everyone had a firearm that could make things even worse not knowing who to shoot. One reason why people don't carry firearms or weapons is its a felony if you get caught with it making the second amendment an illusion. People get charged with possession of a deadly weapon all the time and never even use it or threaten anyone with it.

I do agree with you though in some aspects. If I knew everyone had a gun on them for self defense I would not go outside at all. Most people who possess a weapon are looking for trouble and end up using it as a tool of power and authority during arguments. Whether you are a cop, a drug dealer or just a normal citizen with or without a permit that does not change the fact that you have a weapon which only serves one purpose and also the power to kill someone in a fraction of a second. If you are that insecure that you need a weapon on you 24/7 then you probably should do the smart thing and stay home instead of going outside expecting or provoking gun fights.

I saw this on the news this morning at like 8 o'clock. I think this is just sick that he would do something like this... And the thing that annoys me the most is that he didn't even seem to have any motive to shoot up the place, from what I've seen. Just walk into a movie theater and shoot the place up? That man has some serious problems, to be frank.

I heard he came in through the emergency exit, though. He kicked it open, but apparently no one saw him come in. People didn't even notice the place was actually being shot up for a while, because it was a loud action movie with violence. Very sad.

you made a corelation between films, music and games, and events like this, yet dont hold guns responsible. the mentioned items arent designed to murder and cant be used to kill, guns are and do.
bombs typicaly arent as effective, especialy in a wide area, the only times bombs have been effective (so to speak) has been in enclosed spaces.

JigSaw : the people getting arrested for carrying guns are the people without the permits to own those guns, specifically the concealed weapons permit. I do agree on your point about more guns making it worse because they don't know how to shoot... and let's face it, people shooting at each other in a crowded theater would have been so much worse.

This entire thing is a tragedy and it makes me angry. But at the same time, I think the media coverage needs to just stop because that it what drives these people. They want to be famous, they want to be on the news and have their face plastered all over the papers. If the media did one story, with no picture of the shooter at all, no dramatization, just facts, and moved on (thus making it as boring a story as possible), then these things wouldn't happen. All of that is fact and has been repeated over and over again by forensic psychologists every time these things happen. Do we listen? No.
