I Think this is going to be a hard question to answer. I saw peoples multiple series answers and thought it would be easy to try that. I also considered just replaying my favourite hits again and see where that would lead,(But who has THAT Much TIME?). So, I decided to do multiple series because I like Great Ideas.
My first favoured series would have to be the "Zelda" series. I don't like paying a ton of money for the next big game but you have to admit that that series can take a new way of playing a game and make it an adventure to relearn controls in a satisfying way. That would have been my answer when I was a kid.
Later?
I was kinda torn between "Devil May Cry" and the "Metal Gear Solid" games. Those are great inventions for games. Both solved the Issue of multiple methods of fighting with button economy and still had the inventory plus everything else that goes into a great game. Great Levels and good Foes and well thought out Puzzles, Extras, and Replay value, and great Stories.
Again that was a different time of my life.
Later still?
I enjoyed a lot of competitive play games that required superior skill against other players. "Street Fighter" and "Golden Eye" stand out but there are hundreds of these type of games to go too far into naming all the greats. So, I'll just mention Two that stand out for "Competitive Fighting" and "F.P.S. games." I like how some games know when "If it ain't broke. Don't fix it."
These type of games stand out A Lot for me, but I like them all. It's hard to say if I like competitive play more than a Great story but I do know this Idea had to go into my list somewhere. Its fine to have an experience by yourself. It's divine to share and compare with others.
Between it all that. Stories are fine, puzzles are great, but the competitive portions of games are my favourite part.
My favourite game is "Conkers Bad Fur Day.", When it was a hit in the early 2000's.
Its not a series, but it's a great mix of all the above qualities I dig in games.
So I can't list that here.
It would have to be the one series that stayed with me through all the years and always gave back what I put into it.
The Winner for my post is "Street Fighter."
They made so many of those things everyone should have at least one copy of it somewhere.
Street fighter 2's, Street fighter alpha's, X-men versus street fighter's, S.N.K. versus capcom's, Fighting evolution's and Pocket fighters. The list goes on and on.
Others have used the same controls and rules in their games, its the Highest Borrowed Idea in game history. Everyone can play this game with experience in any similar "control scemed" game.(King of fighters, Samurai showdown, you get the idea.)
Chalk one up to "Capcom."
"Street Fighter" Wins.
I'm Done. Stick a Fork in me.
Peace.

My favorite video game series is, of course, the Zelda series, because I really enjoyed the storyline, the gameplay, and the way that it evolved over the years. My favorite game from that series is Majora's Mask, one of the greatest games ever made, and certainly the best game for the N64. I loved the graphics, the soundtrack and the side quests. It was amazing.

A close second for that series would be Twilight Princess.

My second favorite series is Portal.
