What graphics were lost?
Every single file that was uploaded to the server between 03-03-12 01:41 PM and 03-14-12 05:23 PM (central time) have been deleted, I'm very sorry. So any screenshot taken or highscore taken within this time no longer exists on the server.



Is it possible to recover them?
Sorta. The computer you used to take these screenshots would have them stored on your computer and you could send them to us and we can work on adding them back so here's how you'd go about this:
1. Go to Start Menu > All Programs > Vizzed Retro Game Room > Open Plugin Data Folder
2. Go to the folder with your user id in it; so if your user id was 1, you'd click the 'User-1' folder
3. From here, you can find the screenshots in these directories:
N64 with 1964: 1964 > Screens
NES & FDS: FCEUX > snaps
GBA & GB & GBC: VBA > Screenshots
32X & Genesis: Gens > Screenshots
SNES: ZSNES > Screenshots
TG & NGP & NGPC & WS & WSC & SGFX: Mednafen > snaps
4. Take all of the screenshots that you took between the date I specified above and place it into a folder, if you're giving me both regular screenshots and highscore screenshots, be sure to organize it so that your regular screenshots are in 1 folder and your highscore screenshots are in another
5. You'll want to rename all your screenshots to match the exact name of the game in the within the retro game room followed by an underscore and an incremented number. So for example, if you have 3 screenshots of Super Mario World, your 3 screenshots would be: 'Super Mario World_1', 'Super Mario World_2', 'Super Mario World_3'. Also, in the screenshot names, you'll want to remove all special characters; example: a screenshot of "Legend of Zelda, The - Majora's Mask" would be: "Legend of Zelda The Majoras Mask_1".
6. Zip up that folder and send it to me at davideo7@hotmail.com or you can upload it somewhere and than PM me a link to it or you can reply to this thread with a link to the zipped up screenshots
7. Once I receive your screenshots, I'll try to get them added within 24 hours. Once I do, I'll let you know and you'll re-add them to the page using the screenshot submission page just like you normally would with screenshots you just took with the RGR Plugin.



Why did this happen?
Well I contacted satan Godaddy yesterday (it's my host, not a porn site...well not really anyway) at around this time to do a soft reboot of my server because my stats page wasn't working. When the site came back up, 10 days worth of files were missing. I contacted them to find out why, the live support guy basically didn't care and didn't even bother looking into it for me and basically just blamed it on me (which is bs because I know for sure the files were there right before the reboot and no longer were right after the reboot). I ended up having to call them and they said they were looking into it, about 12 hours later I had to contact them again and they tell me they weren't able to recover anything (would've been nice if they told me that a few hours sooner). They didn't apologize or compensate me in any way and they didn't even find out why it happened.

To make things worst, I have their managed backup plan which means they're suppose to do backups of my server every single day but turns out they hadn't done a backup in about 10 days! So basically I'm paying for an extra service that they're not even doing and they didn't even bother telling me that they weren't making any backups so I put all my trust in them and they fail me big time.



What does this mean for vizzed?
Well, I'm leaving Godaddy once and for all. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them for the past few years that I've used them (ok maybe I've had 2 good experiences but probably 100+ bad ones). I'm working on purchasing some dedicated servers with hostgator, unfortunately it's going to cost twice as much as godaddy which means I'll be paying nearly $2000 a month on server fees compared to the $1000 I'm paying right now (that was one of the reasons I stayed with godaddy, they're by far the cheapest on the internet and I couldn't afford anyone else).

This means there will be downtime probably on Monday and/or Tuesday, that's probably when I'll do the server migration to hostgator. It's possible it might happen sooner but I'd hate to do a transfer during the weekend when the site gets the most traffic.

Stay far away from Godaddy, their tech support is just lazy and don't care and cast all the blame on you to cover up their laziness and lack of knowledge.

legacyme3 : The new host will be hostgator. I actually have 1 of my servers with them currently for one of my other sites and they've been great. Their tech support is awesome, they give you so much control, you can make almost any request you want, they'll upgrade the CPU and RAM of your server without having to do a server migration, they're just amazing. They're twice as much as Godaddy though (but you get what you pay for) so things will be really tough for me financially for a while and I'll have to sell a lot of stuff but in the long run, it'll be worth it because the traffic and ad revenue should be higher with the site being up more so that alone will give me a big enough boost in ad revenue to be able to cover the extra $1000 a month.

So you are finally leaving CrapDaddy GoDaddy? That's good news, the server sounds very much lazy and if they won't help you, why spend money on the server? Glad to hear we are moving on.

You did the right thing David, during these times, Godaddy really messed up many things on Vizzed, like the many times you had to take the site down for a while.
They DO really sound lazy, and unfriendly too.

Well, good and wise decision David, ok the new server will cost the double but it will probably be better than this pile of lazy and unpleasant people called Godaddy.

Well, it's good to know we're moving on to someone so much more reliable. It's too bad that things will be tough for a while, but like you said, the increased traffic recently should help with that, right?

I only wish you never mention that site Because kids will look it up.And its too bad you lost all of those Screenshots during a screenshot Competition .

Hey Davideo, I was just thinking, that if you actually get started on gatorhost, just get rid of some stuff on this site that aren't really worth having up or that nobody really needs. The games need to stay, yes...but how many? Just saying, if getting rid of stuff helps to reduce daily/weekly cost, do it. Take care man.

I want to call GoDaddy a certain part of the male anatomy. Cause that's what they are.

I wish that if I was allowed and it was not illegal, I would call Godaddy and cuss them and find a way to hack their server in payback for damage and not caring their own costumer. I'm lucky because I was planning to go that host when I get older... I hate them now.

Happy to hear that you're dropping GoDaddy. I know they are one of the cheaper host services out there but from what I've read they have horrendous service and customer service. Doesn't seem like anyone knows what they are doing there, or that they care. They think advertising with some female Nascar driver will make them successful...which I guess partly works, since it does get people to visit them at the very least, but it doesn't make their performance any less horrible.
Sorry to hear that you had to go through all this crap with them, but it's understandable why you had to stay with them for as long as you did. I intend to donate once I get a steadier job.

Well, HoDaddy needed to be dropped. But I am sorry that it had to happen this way. I also am really sorry that their lack of commitment results in harming you financially. Have you thought about reporting them to the Better Business Bureau? 

Anyway, I have noticed one thing while trying to find all my lost screen shots. It seems that all my normal screenshots are there. The only ones I cannot seem to find are ones for high scores. Could those possibly found elsewhere? I searched but I don't know what exactly I'm looking for. If I cannot find them, will I be required to delete my high scores from the games pages?

Well, that explains why my photo album evaporated. Meh, oh well. I didn't really lose much, it just messed with the bg on about 20 or so of my posts with my new layout. At least it prompted me to find a new bg, and this one fits better AND is smaller in file size (Even though it's not as shiny ). Sounds like others were hit a lot harder...

Good riddance I say, and hopefully the change will make things much better.

I just sent you my zip file of all my screen shots made during that time. Still couldn't locate the ones that are for my high scores that I made this month though  I normally do not condone in torture, but GoDaddy needs to have sulfuric acid slowly dripped on their foreheads.
