I have heard of this a lot in school, my friends, and many other places. I have seen many people do marijuana and get arrested for it. There are research saying that marijuana gives less damage to your body than alcohol and it is still illegal. I am not saying to legalize it, I am wanting to talk about it if it is a sin for doing marijuana. In my previous thread, I talked about Jesus using a herb (weed) to burn it to talk to the Muslims (or someone) or something that has to do with marijuana in the bible somewhere. Anyways, I am curious if this is a sin or not because this is very confusing from what I hear from a lot of people. Please give more information that proofs your answer. Thank you. |

All I know is that the bible is against anything that hurts your body (alcohol messes up the liver; smoking messes up the lungs-- just to name a few effects). Marijuana may not be as bad as alcohol, etc- but it still has an adverse effect on your body- long and short term. Smoking marijuana can hurt the lungs and cause respiratory issues. Any way of using marijuana will cause some long term damage to the immune system and the mind -(and probably your heart too since getting high messes with your heart rhythm). I would consider using marijuana a sin. (And drinking alcohol and using any form of tobacco too-- even though they are legal) Smoking marijuana can hurt the lungs and cause respiratory issues. That is about the equivalent as asking "is using shampoo a sin?". Shampoo alters your hair and is filled with chemicals, how about food? Food does the same thing, its filled with all kinds of stuff that alters your body. So no, its not a sin. Its a sin to brainwash peoples minds with maryjane to the point where they can't think for themselves. Only you know right from wrong, if you feel its wrong then you got your answer of yes, it is a sin.
I think the real sin here is adopting other peoples beliefs between right and wrong, that is something god put in your hands for you to decide on your own. The Bible isn't clear on mary jane as far as I know. When taking into account this subject, I look at it from the same prospective as drugs. Our bodies are temples to God, so any type of self harm is a sin, but also from the perspective of drunkeness in that we can drink alcohol but we can't drink so much that we get intoxicated. However I think the Bible might say it is also against mind altering drugs. The Bible also tells us to follow the laws of the governing authority, so from that prospective it is a definitely a sin in the US. |

This depends mostly on where you are. Here in the US it is illegal to own or use Marijuana in most states, so it would be. As for places where it is legal, I guess that it really is your decision to make on it. I don't, but I won't judge others as horrible sinners just for using it. and unknown0s, this may belong in a different thread, but the only thing related to alcohol use in the bible I remember as a sin is excessive drinking or alcoholism. It does mess up the body, but as far as I can tell, it isn't a sin to drink in and of itself, it depends on how you do it. and unknown0s, this may belong in a different thread, but the only thing related to alcohol use in the bible I remember as a sin is excessive drinking or alcoholism. JigSaw : You can't put Shampoo and Marijuana and the same level.... People use shampoo to wash their hair- not to get high. Yeah, I know that there's chemicals all around us that harm us- but most people don't take in these chemicals intentionally. We don't eat food for the benzoates, bromates, butylates, various glycerides, etc~ [which all have potential to harm us]- We eat food to live (and for the taste ). What do most people use Marijuana for? To get high- to feel "good". [Yes, I know about medical marijuana and how it can actually benefit people with debilitating and painful sicknesses- If they are legit, they are probably not using "maryjane" to get high, just relief. I do not consider that a sin. The phonies who use sickness as an excuse to obtain Marijuana for recreational use- I believe that they are sinning]. fire_card_fifteen : Some people may not consider the act of drinking alcohol a sin- but being drunk can lead to sin- like adultery, fornication cussing, etc etc. I see it all the time in movies and T.V (and unfortunately, real life...)- getting drunk messes up the mind, it might make you do things you don't normal do- or would want to do. I just included alcohol because I put alcohol and drugs on the same level. I get my view of sin from KJV Bible- some people may not. Good verse for this topic: I Corinthians 3:16-17 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. lol srry I got kinda worked up over this topic [btw, I'm not trying to say I'm perfect- not gonna lie, I slip up sometimes- but I know what to do when I do mess up.] What do most people use Marijuana for? unknown0s : I understand your stance on marijuana being a sin (thanks for the bible quote) , but I am curious if you view legal drugs as a sin. Would you consider anti-depressants a sin too? Many of them do the same things to our bodies as marijuana, they release serotonin in our brains. Of course marijuana can have other harmful effects if inhaled ... but there are other ways to take marijuana. You can digest it, apply it to the skin in an ointment or vaporize it and only inhale the active ingredients and not the other harmful gases you would get from just smoking it. My question for you, are anti-depressants a sin too? Or is marijuana only a sin if you inhale the harmful ingredients along with the THC? My question for you, are anti-depressants a sin too? Excess of anything, even good, can be harmful so by the selected texts that y'all have provided from the Bible, weed can be a sin. However, cannabis has other uses and there are ways that it can be used to be even less harmful and perhaps even soothing for certain people. |

smotpoker86 : It's all about your intentions-- If someone takes anti-depressants for what it is made for (controlling certain mood disorders like major depression and severe anxiety)- I don't consider that a sin. If someone takes any legal drug like anti-depressants or even cold medicine for recreational use- then I would consider it as a sin because the person is abusing the purpose of the drug. Most medicines are made to help or relieve the user from some type of illness/ailment. I'm sure the other ways of taking marijuana are used for something other than getting high- like pain relief. unknown0s : Oh ok, its not a sin if a doctor prescribes it to you or if you take it because the saretonin makes you feel good enough that it counters pain. Simple enough. When I use marijuana, it is because it makes me feel good/happy/relaxed, and I assume this is why most people take it as it is not addictive. If I am making my "temple" feel good, better than it felt without the drug, than I don't see it as a sin. Maybe I just need to go see my doctor for a get out of hell free card (aka prescr When I use marijuana, it is because it makes me feel good/happy/relaxed, and I assume this is why most people take it as it is not addictive. There is an actual answer to this. Romans 13:1-2 1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. That's just my 2 cents. This means that as long as the law of Man isn't going against the Law of God, we should follow it. To disobey a law made my man is a sin. As there is nothing specific in the Bible that states that Marijuana is or is not a sin, we are to follow the law of man and not do it (obviously I'm talking about the United States here). Edit: Woah, I'll have to remember that it does that when I copy+Paste a bible verse. Yes I believe it is a sin only for the fact it alters one's ability to make a decision. Your high on the couch watching some hot woman/man and you think dang it be nice to see that up close. All the while pigging out on snack cakes and chips. You may laugh at this and say been there done that (I have.) . The problem is that you are committing three mortal sins. Sloth Lust and Gluttony! All that for a joint?! Yes I think MJ is a sin. |

"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach . . . "Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things." 1 Timothy 3:2, 11, KJV "But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;" Titus 1:8, KJV "That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience . . . That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children . . . Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded." Titus 2:2, 4, 6, KJV "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" 1 Peter 1:13, KJV "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer." 1 Peter 4:7, KJV "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8, KJV The key word in all of these verses is sober or sober minded. As its been stated before, yes, being drunk or high CAN (and usually does) lead to sin. I know this from past experiences. But if we look at these verses we learn that the fact that we're not sober in the first place IS a sin. God doesn't 'ask' us to be sober - He commands it. I wont repeat the verses that have already been posted about not harming your body, and your body being the temple of the Lord, but I do agree with them. Finally, the fact that a person might be questioning (for themselves and not others sake) whether using marijuana is a sin or not means that that person isn't where they need to be with God. I encourage whoever is wrestling with this to get on your knees and spend some time in prayer with God. If your saved then the Holy Spirit will confirm within you what is right and wrong. And if you're not a child of God, then the Holy Spirit will convict you of what is wrong. I encourage you to seek God through His Son, Jesus Christ. He is much more wonderful, and rewarding, than any substance you can put in your body. I'm not really a big fan of saying things are a "sin" personally, if you feel like it's something you can do recreationally and not have it affect your day to day life, or others around you, then do so. It's your life my friend, live it how you wish. |

I think somewhere in the bible it says drink to be merry and the lord made all bearing seeds and herbs for man to use, sorry I don't know the verses but the latter is in genius.Im sure you can abuse things but if it makes you happy or a better person then its a good thing. I think if you believe that Jesus is the son of god and he died for your sins then you can be forgiven. |

Anything used in excess is bad. Marijuana can be known to alter the mind a bit but it's a fairly harmless plant if used in moderation and is slowly becoming much more accepting in many states around the country and around the world. In the short end, it can lead to sin but can also be inspiration to more productive things that can possibly better your life. |

Yes it is a sin because the bible says we should obey mans law. The law says it's illegal, so it's a sin. |

I don;t think weed is a sin. God wouldn't have put on the earth for us to smoke. Besides I don't see anywhere in the bible thou shall not smoke. |

In my personal opinion, marijuana is not a sin. A sin is when you hurt yourself but marijuana does not make you hurt yourself. I would also like to add a few facts I have learned over the years:
1) Marijuana is a drug that can be used as medicine for glaucoma 2) Marijuana does not affect the brain in ways some people have explained, it simply calms you 3) Marijuana may cause a change in heart rate, only because of the calming affect it has 4) Marijuana doesn't give you cancer (like tobacco) or any liver or immune damage (like alcohol) These are my personal and logical thoughts proven by facts on marijuana. So now I ask, how can it be illegal yet we have legal drugs that can kill you? 1) Marijuana is a drug that can be used as medicine for glaucoma 2) Marijuana does not affect the brain in ways some people have explained, it simply calms you 3) Marijuana may cause a change in heart rate, only because of the calming affect it has 4) Marijuana doesn't give you cancer (like tobacco) or any liver or immune damage (like alcohol) These are my personal and logical thoughts proven by facts on marijuana. Marcmoney : The Bible does not specifically say, "Thou shalt not smoke these things," and then gives a list. The Bible says to do what is right, pure, etc. and to keep in mind that our bodies are Christ's temple. Therefore, that's one reason I would shun weed or marijuana. Another reason is that it is illegal, and Jesus tells us to "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's." He expects us to obey the government (except in cases where our faith does not agree with the government, such as not being allowed to worship, etc.). Since the government has condemned it and it's filling God's temple with things that are not the best for you, I would keep away. Marijuana is also a medicine. In small doses and used properly, I don't think there's any problem with it. As with most things, it depends how you use it. Marijuana is also a medicine.
