Today I was having a boring morning.  I went to school and in 2nd period (my Intro to Theatre class) we are doing this group activity where you choose a children's book and make a play out of it.  I have 6 people in my group and we did a play on one of the children's book.  We had to perform this with memorizing the whole script by tomorrow and I just found out that one of our people in the group is not going to be there.  So I decided that it won't be a problem since he does not have a big part in it.  After lunch, I see a fight going on in the hallway and everyone scattered in and watched.  I had front row seat. I look at the fight and I see someone that looked familiar.  When I was walking to my locker with my friend, I told him isn't that person in our Theatre class and he said yes.  I said (out loud), "Oh S**t, he is in my group!" My friend laughed and I thought of why would it have to be a person in my group that has to memorize a script for a play tomorrow.  I could not believe that 2 of the 6 is not going to be there.  There is no way that the show can go on because he had a part, not too big, in a play.  I said to myself that we were screwed.  This person in our group told me that she would not be there on Thursday (my teacher is giving our class presentation on Wednesday and Thursday) because of a field trip.  So if we don't do it on Wednesday, there will be 3 people gone on Thursday.  I just hope that my teacher will let us off with a freebie for this because I am not getting a 0 for two of the six people that are in trouble and one going to a field trip.  If he says that we must go on without the 2, I will be shocked because we do not have enough people to perform this play.  What do you think about this?  Do you think that my teacher should let us perform it next week or should we get a 0 for not having enough people or should he let us go and give us a different assignment to do to make up this issue?  Let me know.

This doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I was on the forensics team all through high school, and one of my fortes was Humorous Interpretation. It is where you take a piece of work (preferably with multiple characters) and perform it in your own creative way by yourself. I had pieces where I had to switch back and forward between 7-8 different characters. Ask the group who is willing to take on one extra role. Develop a posture, voice, face for both your characters so others can tell them apart, and perform it that way. I had to do that quite a few times in my theater classes.

Marcmoney : I think you should get the other 2 people who were going to show up and just hide underneath the nearest table. Pile books up in front og you do you can avoide acting. Either that, or you would have to come up with a diffrent book. Like maybe a book called "Mr. Nosey". It has 5 characters, but I'm sure you would only need 4. (One of them only shows up around the main character) Good luck!

rcarter2 :  First of all, we can't keep going with the performance because 2 people missing is a big deal (I said 1 is not a big deal).  You can't clone yourself and expect to keep going.  The 2 people that are not going to be there is like having to replace 5 people in the story.  That is impossible.

I realize you said 1 isn't a big deal. But it can still work. You don't have to clone yourself. 2 People who actually are showing up can work on taking over the characters that the missing people were supposed to be. You go through the performance like normal, and when one of the missing people's characters has a line, the person who is covering for that character changes voice, posture, and facial look to signify that they are now a different character. They say their line, and jump back to the face, posture, and voice of their original character. Or they can just stay in the other character until their other character has a line, which they will then switch back. It's pretty simple to do, but can be hard if you don't practice it. Given that you don't have long, I suppose it isn't as feasible for your group. But it can work. I have had to cover for up to 3 people not making it because I tend to memorize everyone's lines anyway, and I just switch characters when I need to. But  again, I competed doing this, so I'm used to it.

I can't change it.  The fiction people that are going to be missing cannot be replaced by us because it is impossible for us to do one thing if the other one has to come out and it is suppose to be you.  I'll just see what will happen tomorrow of what he will say and I will let this thread know what will occur.

I see what you are saying. This is something that would only work if you had time to tweak it to fit. I didn't notice the time frame you have. Maybe you can ask if you can give your script to two classmates and they can just read aloud the lines. 

Either have some one do more than one role or have the teacher have the class moved to a different day. I honestly do not see why they would not let you do it on a different day because it is not so much your fault. But then again a lot of teachers are jerks so they might not let you do that.

Well I found out that one of the people in my group won't be performing and the other one that was not suppose to be there today happen to show up and wasn't in trouble at all.  Our teacher said that we start our plays on Monday so there is no worry now.

That is good that your teacher was understanding. I had some who wouldn't give a rat's behind what happened. If someone bailed out, it was our job to cover for it, which always sucks. Good luck on Monday.

Well, I would go with the different assignment to make up the issue. I didn't read the whole thing, but I understood it.
