Well it is almost here. The tenth anniversary of the horrible terrorist attacks on American soil. I remember them clearly. It was a sunny Tuesday afternoon. I had just got home from school and turned on the TV. I was watching Thomas the Train which was at the time my favorite show. I remember having the program interrupted and switching to a news cast. I was terrified. I thought that it was some kind of joke that had just happened on the TV. I was sad, more so that I was missing my show. I did not have the least bit of a clue what was going on. I remember leaving my moms room and going to her and saying that.

"Planes were crashing on Thomas." She rushed into the room ans when she saw what was happening screamed.

"Oh my god." She covered my eyes and sent me out of the room. I came back in nearly an hour later and saw her crying in front of the TV.

"Mommy" I asked I looked up into her eyes and she hugged me and told me.

"Don't worry we are safe. They won't hurt us here. I won't let them" She grabbed me hard and I told her to stop as she was hurting me.

She then looked at me and asked me. "What did you see?" I told her all about the first plane crashing into the tower and then a big boom that I saw. I asked if it was real, and she said that it would be dealt with later. She then grabbed the kleenex on the bed, dryed her eyes and told me we were going to go out for the day.

I remember going out and people had flags. And were crying and moaning in the street. A man yelled, "Oh god it is not true! It can't be true!" I was so confused. We went to the park and my mom listened to the radio occasionally shedding a tear as I played. I remember going to bed that night and not a thing about the next few days. Though I remember the day so clearly.

This is a video of the attack. It is brutal and not for young children. Please watch at your own risk.

If you hate on this thread I will see to it you are banned to the umpth degree. So I want to know do you remember that day? What were your memories?

I remember that day well. I didn't cry much than, but if I think about it enough now I start to. I remember being in school that day. I remember it was like any other. I was in 2nd grade, and there was talk about it in school, so I saw a little bit of it on tv.I might have actually been let out of school because of it. When I went home I saw more. I didn't really know what was going on. I remember the mood being really dark and scared on tv, even among journalists. I kind of remember President Bush giving a passionate speech, and I really admired him after that.

I remember the day clearly.

I was done being in school.... had just graduated I believe...

I woke up and checked my e-mail, IRC etc.... and saw on the chat that people were talking about a plane hitting a tower and what not... I asked what was going on and people just said "Turn on your TV".... I asked what channel.... "ANY CHANNEL"....

I turned the TV on and was shocked to see that planes were hitting buildings on the East coast of the US. I spent the rest of the day glued to a TV. I was in absolute shock... like pretty much every one else out there.

I can't say I remember where I was since it wasn't that important of a day to me.

I was only like 9 years old, so you can hardly blame me.

No one I knew was affected by it, so it just never stuck.

I know what happened, and as an American, it does upset me to think about it. However, the day itself was forgetful for me, and my knowledge is limited compared to older people's perception of it.

I remember getting ready for school and my parents were watching the attacks on TV. I didn't really know what was going on, but it made me feel pretty awful. My uncle was actually working at a building VERY close to the pentagon at the time, so we were all very worried about him. I remember wondering whether or not he had died... ]=

He didn't, luckily enough because he was still at home at the time, and called us to tell us that he was alright - but it was still very scary.

When I got to school, EVERYONE was talking about it. My fourth grade teachers (since I had two) brought out a TV and we spent the entire day watching the news and talking about what had happened. One of my teachers kept crying and that, in turn, made a lot of us cry. =/

I remember that day as if it happened yesterday. I remember waking up in the morning and hearing my Mom and sister in the living room talking. I didn't think it was anything important, so I got up and went to join them. Then they told me, "There was a terrorist attack in New York." I was shocked. At the time, only the first plane was in the North tower. I sat down and in a few seconds the second plane hit the South tower. A lot of details still we're not known at the time about why those people hijacked the plane. I think by then the pentagon was hit as well.

I also remember being so shocked when the North tower collapsed. Even more in shock when the South tower collapsed as well. I never thought that hitting a building from the top would make them collapse and I honestly think it shocked a lot of people. I remember how long it took for them to clean up and that a lot of people we're missing. It's definitely just one of the most tragic days in history.

I was homeschooled at the time. I forget if was even doing any work that day, but I did see a few glimpses. I was only 11 at the time and did not have a single clue what was going on. I had no idea that this would change the world forever. I noticed that the new was continuously reporting this. As each day passed I began thinking, "This is serious." It still was not until high school that I began to understand the meaning behind all this. It was probably for the better of me that my childhood ignorance protected my childhood innocence.

I am not saying that the war on terror is a bad cause, nor am I saying that it should be ended. But I still have to ask... we will never forget, but will we ever forgive?

Edit: On another note, it almost seems appropriate that the date of this anniversary falls on a Sunday. It makes me think about Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Jakob98 : With all due respect sir, mine is not exactly on the same topic as yours. Mine is about your memories of the day where as yours is more or less demanding silence. Now that 9/11 is over yours is irrelevant where as my point still stands. In one respect they are the same. They have the same title. In every other way to put it they are different.

So without further ado, sir you are wrong.

I noticed the same name, but I have to side with Billy in that the topics are different enough that I see no reason to close either. To further alleviate confusion, I have altered the title of this thread to 'Memories of 9/11' so that its purpose is clearer.

That said... my memories...

I remember being woken up by the phone ringing at like 6 something in the morning (pacific time). It was my sister telling me to wake up mom and turn on the news because a plane had just crashed into the Twin Towers. I went into the living room, turned on ABC and watched as the smoke was billowing out of Tower 1. My mom and I watched the second plane hit while I got ready for school. Drove to school listening to the radio. Everyone was quite on campus. At the time I really did not care that much, I even wrote a poem about how much I didn't care (I was a very cynical and anti-government high school senior). But as the day unfolded it really sank in. All but one of my classes just watched the television all period long. I forget which class I was in when the towers fell, but no one was talking. The entire day was really surreal, even though a detached part of me knew that I was witnessing a major historical event.

That day, as I was walking home, a lot of my cynicism was rewarded as I saw people on street corners selling little American flags for $3 a piece (you know, those flags that cost a dime to make and normally sell for 50 cents?). It wasn't even twelve hours from the start of the event and people were trying to profit from it by playing on people's emotions. It disgusted me.

Elara : First of all thank you for clearing that up because they really are not the same. Thank you for also clearing up the title.

I agree with the whole profit thing too. I hated that I saw people selling things on the street and stuff like that when they should have been just sitting. I also must think. Who ever got the first shots and the first picture must have made a fortune.... Sad world we live in.

Giving out the flag, that is fine. Selling it at cost, fine... jacking up the price to profit off of a tragedy? Not cool.

Honestly though the whole wave of insincere patriotism that I saw kinda made me sick. Suddenly everyone had a little flag somewhere, even those that were preaching anarchy the day before, and if you were not wearing a little flag you were a target. I'm sorry, but I don't need to wear a little flag to prove to you or anyone else that I love my country. Just like I don't need a little magnetic ribbon on my car to support the troops. It's just a new way to make money that you were dumb enough to fall for.

I admire the capitalism of folks buy and selling flags.

I was in the Marines when it happened.  On Thursday, we flew out to NYC and defended the runways at La Guardia Airport so people wouldn't loot equipment and supplies.

I don't think it's capitalism in spirit when their line is "If you don't buy this tiny flag for $5 then you are un-American and hate this country."

Like I said, it's the fact that they jacked up the price to profit from it.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
