It's only a week into school, and I'm already starting to not like geometry.
I was good at algebra though, but my teacher says that if your good at algebra you wont be all that great at geometry, and vise-versa. Unless your lucky and are good at both, or really unlucky and just suck at math in general.

Geometry is like a whole different way of thinking than Algebra, and I would rather keep thinking like I'm used to.

Any one else having problems relating to geometry?

You know, if you're struggling with Geometry, I tutor some students in that subject. People have said they've improved their scores after seeing me. x3 /selfpromo

I never did find Geometry to be a difficult subject. It just takes some training to think outside the box like Geometry requires, but once you get through that, a bunch of answers come flying to you.

I'm horrible at the subject. Actually, I totally suck at math in general. It's my worst subject ever.

But that doesn't stop me from passing the course. So, my small piece of advice to ya, is just try to get in the flow for geometry, and just try to get a C+ or whatever your goal is.

... Without cheating, of course. That'll bring down a lot of problems for you, because all kind of math requires you to have actual knowledge of it. Also, my teacher tends to pop a quiz every time after a section unit has been done, and that's probably what your teacher will do, or something similar to that. If you fail the quiz, the teacher will know you've cheated. (knowledge because of friend in class cheated and I watched the downfall. )

I don't understand what your teacher means by saying if you were good at algebra, you won't be good at geometry. Yeah, geometry has a very different way of thinking needed when it comes to their step by step process, but I remember having to apply algebra skills in the steps themselves in geometry (except when the question is asking you to label the properties used). Maybe it is just due to different teaching methods.

rcarter2 : Well, yes you do have to use algebra in it, that's the part that holds me together in geometry.
The only real problem is getting a problem set up sometimes, like figuring out how to start it off. .

Yeah, assigning steps is annoying. My big quarrel with it was the fact that in my class, you HAVE to use the steps the way they want you to. I could arrive at the right answer using my own methods, but you only get partial credit for getting the answer right, and the bulk of the credit is using the steps they want you too. I guess, now that I look back at it, that is how it is so different. In algebra, you could develop your own methods, but they take that away in geometry...

Geometry was hard for me, but not for the right reason..... I only did about 25 percent of homework for the first quarter, but by the end of the course I had a 55 percent    Luckily, I got an A on almost every test.

Yes. =/ I always had a lot of trouble with it back in high school. Partly because my teacher never wanted to stay on topic and tended to talk more about his kids than what we were supposed to be learning, buuuut that's besides the point.

I've always sucked really bad at geometry. Especially when dealing with 'proofs.' Ugh, I always dreaded those. I almost failed the final because half the freaking test dealt with proofs. =/ luckily, I passed with a C-. Worst math grade I've ever gotten though.

My point is: Geometry is really frustrating. >.< I'm loads better at regular algebra.

I actually liked geometry a little.

I was stuck on the slow path despite being great at math. I was able to take calculus probably on the mental level, but the school messed up, so I took geometry in my junior year. I took it with my friend Kyle, who was also a junior. We had a blast in class and it was probably the first and last time in high school I genuinely enjoyed a class in school. The class itself sucked, but we had a lot of fun no matter what.

I am in the same class right now and I really do feel your pain. I hate geometry it is hard and really not fun at all. That is not how my brain works. Please do not make it think that way.

I personally thought Geometry was kind of easy. Now, pre-calc, that's where it starts to get hard.

Math is great!
I remember Geometry back in Freshmen year. Good times. One of my friends is a fantastic artist and he drew caricatures of all our teachers freshmen year. The one of our math teacher included a 'report card' in the background the read "F, F, F, F, A, F" and my friend told me the A was for me. lol I just never had a problem with it. I tutored some geometry students in senior year.
