I chose Cyndaquil in Heartgold. I don't mind Totodile but like everyone else, I'm not to fond of grass types. Maybe because I am not the defensive but the offensive, which may explain why I never really use rock and steel. I like ground though (only thing that beats electric).

When I was younger and had Gold, I would always pick Cyndaquil...not sure why, maybe it is because I liked fire pokemon because I thought they were cool. But eventually I got older and bought Heart Gold, and I always chose Chikorita, still do. She's so---err..he or she, is cute. I always train a Pidgey to take on Falkner instead of Chikorita, don't want any fainting on my watch.

There's no beating Cyndaquil, the best non-legendary fire type in the game. Gives you an advantage over the second gym, too. Totodile is pretty good too, but is completely outclassed by Gyarados. And I don't like Chikorita due to average stats (among other things as well).

I picked Chikorita since she is one of my favorite Pokémon especially when she evolves.
