I have a cat that is 16 years old and that is pretty old for a cat.  Do you know how long cats can live?  She seems to be a strong hearted cat.

You know what they say, cats have 9 lives. I would imagine they live for a long time.

I believe they can live up to 16-20 years.

1 Year = 7 Years in Cat age.

I think that they can live up to 20 years. I have had my cat for over 16 years now and she seems fine to me. Then again when you do nothing it is harder to die.

YourMajestyKen : if 1 year is 7 for a cat that would mean if they live to 20 theyre 140.who creates these animal years things.

At any rate, yeh, cats can live 20 years.at a realistic number though most will live for around 13 to 15 years.yours is doing well for its age,if it seems healthy theres every possibility it'll hit 20

thenumberone : Actually, she is not.  She is so skinny, you can feel her bones and she hallucinates some of the time.  She would always want food, every hour.  My parents think she has a disease or something, but I think that's what cats are when they get old, they don't remember a lot of things.

The oldest living cat that I remember reading about was, like, 38 at one point? Somewhere around there. A lot of my grandma's cats (as I have never actually owned one myself, sadly and ironically enough) have lived on average around 10 or so years. But then again, they've all been outdoor cats, so that probably contributes. =|

There are so many factors that can determine how long cats live:

Whether they are domesticated or pet cats, inside or outside cats, what kind of food they eat, how much water they drink, how much milk they're given, how many vet visits you take them on, when they are spayed/neutered, etc.

I remember one of my friends told me that their cat lived to be 23 before it died.  It was a very well taken care of cat.

XxChaosxX : You are asking really specific things lol.  My cat is a pet and mostly an insider.  We do not let her outside anymore because we think that she could eat something outside like the chemicals on the grass and stuff and she could die from it, so now she is staying inside for now.  She eats a little and she drinks some of the time.  She seems to be fine, but her body is so skinny.

I am surprised to see these answers.  I thought they would live around 13 years.

As most people are saying, cats can live to be around 20, but it's more common for them to have a life expectancy of around 15. My cat Snowballs lived to be over 20. I remember telling the vet once how old he was, and she was surprised by his age.

Actually, multiplying your cat's age by seven to get its age in "human" years doesn't quite yield accurate results, as cats mature much quicker relative to human life spans. (The same applies to dogs.)

As such, the generally accepted method is adding 15 years for their first year of life, 10 years for their second year of life, and 4 with every year of life beyond that.

Indoor cats typically live into their late 'teens, but the longest living cat on record supposedly lived to be 34(!) years old, or 153 "human" years.
