Someone70 : I agree though from the start I was taught that being gay is wrong but that is the way I was raised though no my parents say that although it is wrong we need to accept them. Which I do and I do also agree that people need to accept more than they do.

You know, I'm very happy I found this thread. I myself am not gay, but my sister is. When she finally opened up about it with her friends, almost all of them ditched her. I know this doesn't have a lot to do with the topic, not this sentence, but if you're gay all you have to do is open up about it with your friends. If they ditch you, then you know that they weren't true friends,  but if they stick with you, you can rely on them.  

and I agree with what was said earlier, about how people call things gay. I mean, I am a huge Pokémon fan, and because of that people call me gay and make fun of me, but I don't care, because I was born as a huge Pokémon nerd! And I'm fine with that. 

also, I don't really know how my church deals with gays, but I know how I deal with them. I don't shun them, I accept them. I don't pray for them to change, because I know that there are Christian gays out there. If God didn't accept gays because they were different, then why would he accept us AND other races? If he didn't accept them, then he would only accept one race. Its not a choice being gay, so people can never truly change. Go ahead and bash me if you want, but this is how I feel about this subject.

epicpokenerd! : Sorry to get technical on you but if a girl is "gay" that would mean that they are a lesbian. If a girl was gay that would mean that they are straight. Either way I take that you mean your sister is a lesbian.

Well, yeah, I guess you're right.  but anyway yeah and she gets ridiculed by her "friends" all the time!

JoaoGabriel : As Vincent said there are some (just because typing in homosexual is too long for me all though I already did it) gays here on vizzed. They probably would not take kindly to someone saying thank God you don't know any. You probably want to reword your post.

when i used to go to a catholic church even though they were against it they were still nice to them and didnt judge them, its like in their head they're screaming its wrong but on the face of it, it would seem indifferent. i think things are startign to change

I think this is a very interesting topic. I've been thinking about this subject long before I've even seen this thread, collecting my thoughts and organizing them subconsciously somehow. lol xD
Anyways, this is what I've come up with so far:
As a Christian, I've noticed that many of us('us' referring to Christians in general) have our own views and interpretations of the bible. I've seen some condemn homosexuals, others who just pray for them, and still others who talk and try to bring them closer to God, Christian or not.
What I think is, though, that we shouldn't be condemning others because of their homosexuality. Yes, according to the bible it is a sin; but also according to the bible, are we not all sinners? What makes one sin any 'better' or 'worse' than the other? Any sin is still a sin. So what gives any of us the right to condemn anyone else? No, we should accept them instead, bring them like anyone else closer to God.

As for whether or not being gay is a choice or not, I currently have no comment as of now. Maybe you can ask me again in a year or so. lol jk xD

I was raised a Unitarian Universalist, and I've always been taught that it's okay to be whatever sexuality you want. We look at homophobia the same way others look at racism. Hate is hate, and it's all bad.

Note that I'm not necessarily saying that all homophobic people hate homosexuals. Although I don't agree that homosexuality is a sin, I'm much more willing to accept the ideology of "hate the sin, not the sinner" than "god hates fags".

Dekker Avesque : you know, I completely agree with you. Many people don't realize that its the sin that is bad, so rather than hating someone for sinning, you should hate the sin. And I also agree with you on the homophobia is like racism. If people are born Asian and still go to heaven (by the way I'm not trying to be racist here) than why should it be any different with homosexuals? Neither of them are choices, right?

Although I consider myself very religious, I don't attend church. I am just not religious on the organized way. I just don't join an organized church now mainly because I can't find a christian church that doesn't condemn some type of lifestyle by saying they are going to Hell unless they change. I just don't like the idea that you have to fit every aspect a group sees as right to go to Heaven. I believe that being a good person who treats others with love and respect despite their differences is what matters.

Dekker Avesque : The lesbian that I know. ( I only know one ) Gets offended if you call her gay. So I guess that it works both ways. Some like to be called different things.

I find this thread strange.

If you read the Bible it tells you the following:

1. To fellowship with people who are willing and trying to overcome their weaknesses and sins. If they refuse then they lose fellowship with the Church.

2. All sinners come short of the glory of God. Doesn't matter if you lie, steal, are gay, murder, have an affair, or think something mean about someone else. Any 1 sin keeps you from God. We all require the atonement of Jesus Christ just as much as the next person.

The only thing that truly matters is that the person has a relationship with God and is working out their salvation on their own terms. I may think that being gay is a sin but Jesus Christ can wash away that sin and any other. It's not our place to scare people into thinking they are going to hell because they sin.

Though that is no different like you said than with any other sin. I agree with your point. All sins are horrible in God's eyes.

billythekidmonster : I'm not arguing whether or not it's bad but do you honestly agree with that statement? Do you think men or women who have sexual relations with someone of their own gender that they are to be put to death? That is a scary position to take.

geeogree : I do not really believe that. Though I think that they shall not be put to death because Jesus died for our sins. If they should die I should as well, we all sin and they are all of the same size in God's eyes.

I brought it up to say God does not like homosexuality as a thing.

I am personally straight, and I am a devout Christian, but I believe that there is nothing wrong with being gay, as to me, I don't see how a church that loves and accepts all people no matter who or what they are should deny people the right to love who they love. It doesn't matter if that person is male or female, the only thing that matters in God's eyes is that they love each other. That's my opinion anyway . I am sorry to say that my parents do not share this opinion, but at least they say that being homosexual is ok, but that the act of having gay sex is wrong. At least that's better than the view that some people have that gays should be killed, which is certainly against the teachings of God.
Well there's my opinion on all this, and I'm very sad to see so few posts with a similar opinion as this.
