Our church prays for the Homosexuals every sunday and we pray for them to find God and that they will turn from their ways. How does your church handle the Homosexual society? |

billythekidmonster : I kind of find this funny, the way your church handles homosexual's views, that is.
Homsexuality isn't a disease. It's simply what it is. Trying to pray for a homosexual to change their "ways" is kind of like trying to pray for a black skinned person to become white skinned. (I'm not trying to be racist; just an analogy) The only difference is that it's not as apparent. I know this because I myself am homosexual, and any bisexual or homosexual friends feel the exact same way. Anyways, as far as churches go, I don't attend church. However, I do know the church in this city does the exact same thing that yours does. Homsexuality isn't a disease. It's simply what it is. Don't worry, I don't take offense to it at all. Logically speaking, just because I, or someone else is homosexual, technically doesn't mean we can't 'act' straight. So the belief isn't completely invalid. People argue that humans do not have instincts. But sexual stimuli in itself is an instinct. Homosexual is basically the same instinct of one would get from seeing the opposite gender naked. For homosexuals, it's this but just with the same gender. Doesn't mean it is impossible for me to have a relationship with a woman. It just means I wouldn't be sexually stimulated from seeing her automatically, it would have to be very forced. It depends if you could call that a real relationship or not. And no, I'm not Christian. I don't believe in God himself 100%, but I do believe in the afterlife and such 100%. I am very strange like that. But to say the very least, I've had my strange experiences. Both good for my belief in God and the afterlife, but only bad making me not have any belief in God. Never negative for the afterlife. Don't worry, I don't take offense to it at all. Logically speaking, just because I, or someone else is homosexual, technically doesn't mean we can't 'act' straight. Actually, my church rarely brings up the subject of homosexuality unless it's related to the sermon (from the Bible).
If it is bought up, my church does condemn homosexuality. But this doesn't mean homosexuals are restricted from the church; we do implore them to study the Bible. Our church goes about it the "love the person, condemn the behavior" mentality. They also have recommend therapy to let go. I've seen a number a former gays who were hardcore gay turn by this mentality. |

Coming to terms with my homosexuality as a young Christian was a very difficult thing to do. I had been going to church for 6 years and was very devoted. What I was taught was that homosexuality is the most sinful behavior there ever was. Religious people I knew would refer to homosexuals as fags and queers. I felt I needed help but I couldn't tell anyone because they would be disgusted by me. All I had was a silent God and a heart full of fear for my soul. Suicide was a real option but I found a boy that felt more real to me than anything I experienced religiously. It wasn't easy for us, I put him through so much. broke his heart many times because I was too afraid to just enjoy my time with him. I had to forget everything I thought I knew to function like a normal person. Now I feel strong, I don't hate myself or condemn myself. I have love and a good heart towards people. I'm not saying this to offend or argue but to share my personal experience.
I agree with Vincent swift strike about being something you can't change and I like what hooch man said about loving the person. You can disagree but everyone in society owes it to one another to just love and make someone's life brighter. t I agree with Vincent swift strike about being something you can't change and I like what hooch man said about loving the person. poohbeah : Not trying to be offensive as this term usually is an insult but cool story bro. That takes some guts to come out of the closet especially on your second post. Well at least I think it would be hard to come out of the closet but I am not gay so....... |

You're right it is hard. I had no intention of hiding it. I saw this thread and wanted to share. I think Christians in general can get wrapped up in the laws instead of Loving God and each other. I recently found some friends that don't like the fact that I am gay but they pray for me and hope I get a change of heart. You seem like a good tolerant person, most Christians I know would dismiss what I have to say before I could finish Oh and no offense taken. |

poohbeah : Yes I try to be as tolerant as possible. I can not say that I condone it though just like most people, and I actually will probably pray for you. That is just the kind of person that I am, I try to stay as open minded about things as possible.
For me it is always hate the sin not the sinner. That is just the way I was raised. For me it is always hate the sin not the sinner. That is just the way I was raised. |

You mean hate the sin not the sinner? I understand. I wish more people were that way. There are alot of homosexuals going to church sitting in the pews hoping for that one day when God's going to reach down and change them. All the while hating themselves because of something they have no control over. They don't need another person to tell them they're wrong. They've heard it before and that just tears at their self esteem. They need to be loved like the straight members of the church. |

I'll say this is the right mentality to have, so to speak. So long as you recognize by God's standards according to the Holy Bible that it's sinful, then you can be forgiven and changed; no one is sinless. Homosexuals in general are treated extremely badly in this day in age.
I remembered when I used to get bullied at school just because of the way I looked, and because I have a speech defect. Now I'm more or less verbally harassed everywhere I go by a large sum of society. The worst part of it is, a lot of said people just do it because saying something like "That's gay." made be just an initial reaction to something they dislike. But if saying such words in a bad way, someone 8 feet away overhearing that (I.E. me) has to take such words as verbal abuse. In the end, I have no intentions of changing, whether people pray for me or not. I'm not going to be shy about who I am. I was born with a whole list of problems. In fact, my birth was an absolute mistake. My mom was on a birth control pill and I came out anyways. I have an unnatural metabolism, unnatural teeth, unnatural hair, my eye lids are purple, I have a speech defect, I struggle to keep myself with enough weight so I do not become too skinny that it becomes dangerous and lastly, I was born gay. I know I was born gay because even before I knew what gay was, for as long as I can possibly remember, I gave out several signs that I was homosexual that only I would know looking back at it. That starts at about early age 4. These signs went all the way up to the present date. I never even though about it until I was around 13, and it wasn't a bigger shocker when I really realized it. If you can't be happy and accept who you are, then you simply don't live your life; you live your life for society. A person shouldn't let society decide who they want to be. You be who you want to be, and I simply want to be myself. To be honest, I'm quite happy being homosexual. I've had a lot of bad experiences with being used by females of pretty much of all ages. Kid's to adults. I don't mean to be offensive to any females; it's absolutely just bad luck on my part, but I've been abused by woman both mentally and assaulted physically. Straight or not I'd never be able to get in a relationship with a girl after 13 years of crap. |

So, I'm going to throw my 2 cents into this topic. I used to go to a Southern Baptist church for many, many years. I don't remember the topic of gays coming up often, so yeah... I do find it funny that there is plenty of contradictions that Christians overlook to get their point across. I know there's this video which I came across that points out and makes fun of some arguments that Christians use (http://fckh8.com/Top5Reasons/) ). I personally believe there is a God and a Satan, I just feel that the church of today is a bit hypocritical. I think that the Bible, much like all documents, books, and stories, has been altered several times as it gets translated into another language or a new version. It's basically like the world's oldest game of "Telephone" where you say something to someone and they pass it along until it gets back to you. Then you see if it's the same as what you started with. Nine times out of ten, it won't be. Who says the versions of today haven't been darned up and patched up to make everything sound better?
OK, enough, I'm getting off my soap box, LOL. Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, I've known I was gay since I was 12, and I didn't start coming out until my first semester in junior college. The reason for that was because I knew of one or two out guys at school, and their lives weren't exactly the best. Pair that up with all the news stories about gays being injured and killed for just being out, it's enough to keep anyone's mouth shut. I was used to the bullying only because I was a certified geek (still am, just lost some of the geek outer appearance). I only started coming out when I realized people really didn't care about me if they knew the real me. I'm not one of the stereotypical gay guys, which surprises people when I do come out to them. However, I usually will test them first by seeing how they speak, how they react to things I say, etc. Usually this will tell me if it's ok to come out to them or to keep my mouth shut. I was taught from the very start that homosexuality was not something that Christians approved of. However, nowadays, it's like trying to force atheists to convert to Christianity; it's not going to happen if you're going to keep bagging on them and say you're not going to be saved or whatever. My church is fairly tolerant about this subject. They won't accuse or criticize homosexuals, but it is still taught that it's not an act supported by God.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I won't do it myself, but if I meet someone that does, then it's fine to be them. All it takes is a little acceptance.
