Do you believe there are different degrees of hell?  Do you think Hitler got punished more severely then some petty liar? In many scriptures it states that all both young and old rich and poor righteous and wicked will be judged on there actions. There is no mercy for the ones who know god but still defy him while those who don't experience god and therefore sin unknowingly will be punished less severely as in Luke 12:47-48;47That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.48 but the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much much more will be asked.

I think it's a possibility, but the one who is punished less is still not a consolation for being in hell for eternity.

I don't think there are different levels of punishment for sinners. There is no priority given to any of the 10 commandments and all of them are equal. All sins are equal as well. Every one who goes to hell gets probably the worst conceivable punishment imaginable , which is eternal suffering. I don't think you can be punished more harshly than that.

If there are different degrees, than the Bible doesn't say anything about it. I have always tended to think of hell as a place of complete darkness and despair, a place of emptiness and wasting away for all eternity. And maybe there will be literal fire there to. I don't think anybody will be punished worse than anyone else. as Smotpoker86 said before me all sin is equal. I think sin is sin in Gods eyes, whether you lie or murder someone, either way you broke one of Gods eternal laws. So if I live my life as a liar without God, I think I would get it just as badly as Adolf Hitler and Osama Bin Laden.

I believe that the Catholic dogma says there is nine levels of Hell... or it might be eight now that they got rid of Limbo.... regardless I don't know if it is ever mentioned in the Bible at all. It might simply have been an invention of Dante.
