Okay I thought since there wasn't a thread on this topic, I would start one. I wanted to know who likes this movie and if you prefer the original or the remake.



Personally, I prefer the original. There are too many things in the remake I didn't like. I'll get to that once I get a few replies. So what do you all think?

Robert Englund is the only Freddy Krueger. He made the character. The remake was an alright movie, but he's not Freddy. The remake Freddy is too serious and hardly wise cracks. The original always cracked on his victims before he killed them. That's the Freddy I know and love. However, I think Robert quit making those movies for his kids sakes, but that's just a rumor. I wouldn't know, that and he is getting up in his age. All I'm saying. Robert is the true Freddy Krueger.

I prefer the original as well, mainly because Freddy was hilarious in the original. He was to serious in the remake, kinda ruined it for me.

Natas : Yeah, I heard that he was offered to be Freddy in the remake, but he turned it down because he felt he was getting to old to do more stunts.

vizwiz123 : Actually that's not true, they never even asked Robert to do the remake. I have been going on this NoES forum and I found some information that backs this up. They never offered him the role, he said he would have done it if they asked him to.



Natas : I didn't like the remake either. I felt that the acting was very poor. A lot of those actors can do a lot better and they just didn't give their all. And you're right, Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. I don't know what they were thinking with the remake. And it didn't even stick to the original storyline. I think it was a total bust.

I liked the original better and Johnny Depp was in it even though he didn't have the biggest part to play in all of that. Freddy even looked scarier and creepier and the ways he killed (some) made me laugh

hackerman : I agree. He had more humor and was scarier in my opinion. The new actor didn't do Freddy justice. I hope they decide not to carry on with the series with the new movie and just stick to the original series.

My parents don't allow me to watch Nightmare on Elm Street.   But from the looks of it, I would like the old one better.

I also agree that Robert is the only Freddy. Nobody can recreate that character. In the Freddy vs Jason commentaries, Robert stated that he had to work for a hours with kid who played that stoner who gets possessed by Freddy for 30 seconds of the movie just to get it to look remotely right. But it actually isn't completely true about the reason he wasn't Freddy. I watched an interview with him, and though he didn't state whether or not he was ever offered the job, he said that the stunts of the modern movies is getting too much for him. He talked about how doing the things in Freddy vs Jason was just almost too much, so that was the movie he hung up his dark brown hat. 

But anyway, minus the fact that they got a different Freddy and completely changed the character, it still was not good. Wes Craven was more than fine with them making a new Nightmare On Elm Street, but because he was not under the impression it was pretty much a complete remake of the original. He did not support it when he found out that detail. But I think they went way too dark with it. In the remake, they focused too much on the angry vengeful side of Freddy, and that made him less scary. In the original, you could see that he took pure pleasure in killing, but he had even more enjoyment when he mentally terrified them by toying with them in ways he found amusing. That is the kind of psychopath that makes the scariest killers. I don't think this movie was horrible. The movie would have been really good had there never been an Elm Street movie before. But the fact that there is makes this movie completely non-creative, making the quality drop  a lot.

Yes, the remake just doesn't seem as good as the originals... Could be because the originals scared me half to death when I was a kid, but nobody is Freddy like Mr. Englund.
Um, your parents might not let you watch the originals because they are full of blood and gore, obviously fake sometimes, and nudity.

My friend bought that movie and he decided to give it away and let me have it for free since he's works at a videogame store.HE told me that freddy is a pedo rather then a child killer i skipped this movie and just let him sale it.

death_nation : Yeah I only watched it once. The first time I tried to watch it I couldn't sit through it. The second time I had to force myself to watch it. I prefer Robert Englund as Freddy. He seemed more malicious and scary. The new Freddy just lacked that scare appeal.

Honestly I have never been a big fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Originals, or remake.

There were some cool/interesting things in them, but overall they just seemed too cheesy for me to really take seriously.

The original nightmare on elm street was the best one I cant watch the remake for any longer then thirty minutes with out wanting to smack my head against the wall for wasting my time watching thirty minutes of the remake.

I love the original Nightmare on Elm Street, but I have absolutely no interest in seeing the remake. I don't care what actor they got to play Freddie, I don't believe for one second he will be anywhere near as awesome as Robert Englund.

Okay so this remake bombed, it was even worse than the Friday the 13th remake and I didn't even think that was possible..okay so Hollywood it is decided that with horror remakes you suck so handover all projects to Rob Zombie, did anyone else notice that his remake of Halloween was awesome but the ones that he didn't remake sucked so badly! I want to know what gave them the idea that having a Freddy that wasn't Robert Englund would be a good idea? He didn't even look right, he looked fake to be completely honest, the guy who played Freddy had an awkward facial structure that was visible under his mask or make up or whatever they chose to use to his transformation. Anyway, I didn't like this remake, it had a good story just needs fixed up a lot.
