Another animal showdown! Who would win...an adult Anaconda or an Adult Grizzly Bear?

This is kinda hard but I feel confident to say an Anaconda would win. They can grow up to 30 plus feet long...and some have poisonous fangs that would kill a Grizzly Bear in seconds.

What do you think?

Anaconda hands down, it could wrap itself around the bear (assuming their at least 30 feet long ) and strangle the bear to death.

Anacondas aren't poisonous to my knowledge. However due to size, and ability to wrap, and evade, also the water advantage the anaconda (a big one) would win.

I thought someone would have mentioned a bear having sharp claws and being able to rip through an anaconda if strangled, by now. I guess the Anaconda is the superior species to most.

I'd say the Anaconda would win, due to the size and powerful of its wrap. True, the bear could put up a severe fight, but my money's on the snake!

On this one i have to agree with you , Anaconda definitely has a major advantage on its poisonous fangs....It has more probability to win.

Anaconda would suffocate the bear, and kill it, the bear wouldn't be able to attack it because it's so thin and quick, and eventually dies.

I like how the majority of the posts here that say Anacondas would win is due to 'poisonous fangs'. This is completely untrue on two levels.

1. No snakes are poisonous. A snake can be venomous, which is different. Venom has to enter the blood to cause harm, whereas poison does not. You can actually drink snake venom with no worries (unless you have any tears in your digestive tract.

2. Anacondas are NOT venomous. They belong to the boa group of snakes, which rely solely on constriction to kill prey, and have no venom.

As far as this little bout goes, it depends on a few circumstances. If the anaconda were on land, they would be a sitting duck. A few said they have such great maneuverability, which is false when on land. Their massive size and weight actually makes them very slow creatures on land. The aren't rattlesnakes that have great speed. They can't lift their body like lighter snakes can. So if a Grizzly decided to pick a fight with it on land, it would kill easily. Now, if the anaconda were in fairly deep water (about human waist-chest height), then the anaconda has the complete advantage. First off, they stick to murky water for hiding. The moment a grizzly sticks it's paws in the water, the anaconda has something to grab and begin the wrapping for constriction. It would do what it does and keep it's head underwater to drown the bear. So the answer isn't clear cut, and I hope this clears up the whole 'poison fangs' mumbo jumbo.

I was thinking grizzly but after reading the posts i'm not sure, if the bear didn't bite it's head off then yea snake would win, plus even if the bear took it/s head the snakes nerves would probably still squeeze.I'm sure that in 100 fights the bear would win some, I guess it just depends on circumstance.I would like to see this one.

septembern : LOL. Are you going to vote?

rcarter2 : Thanks for the information, I did not know that. I thought most snakes and anacondas were venomous. Thank goodness I said "some."

Even without venomous fangs, I think an anaconda being a constrictor and lengthy in size can easily wrap itself around a slow pace bear effortlessly on land and in water. Of course the bear would fight back but in the end, wouldn't stand a chance regardless of land circumstances.

Bears are anything but slow paced. A grizzly bear can actually move at up to 30mph, whereas the average human runs roughly 27mph. Their reaction time is also strikingly near equal to that of a human. You just don't see them move that quick unless you are on the wrong end of it Anacondas speed on land is only 3-4mph. Because of their massive weight, their striking and coiling speed is also severely reduced. I have seen an anaconda get pretty much owned by one man with he bare hands. On land, grizzly wins. Water however is all the snake. That is their niche.
