I find it funny what extent people would go to just to get out of a situation in life. When they find something they like. The would lie about it, con their way in getting what they want, yet when they are confronted and caught in a lie. They still continue the lie to get out of the sticky situation so they can get away with it unscathed. It's just horrible when they do that, specially when people lie to children who are full of hope. I'm curious what makes people do things of that nature.

I remember when an old friend would always lie to me and make excuses just so he didn't have to hang out with me, of course I was gullible enough to believe his lies. I didn't know he didn't want to hang out with me, but when I finally confronted him one day and asked him why he was always to busy. His brother basically ratted him out telling me that he didn't want to be seen with me with his so called "Cool" friends and he would continue to lie about it saying his brother was lying. It was no hiding it now. I figured it out and quit hanging out with him.

Lying is like cheating in a game in some ways. Lying can easily take off extra effort on your part with almost no effort to begin with, very much like cheating in some type of game. Although there is always a risk of being found out, and then punished when caught. On the other hand, it can be used almost to the opposite effect, which is to simply avoid punishment because you did do something wrong (Like... lying in the first place!). What people always fair to realize either way through, despite how true it really is, is the good old saying: "It's easier to get in a lie then out of one."

To me, people lie because they can't think up a smarter solution, so they take the easy way out and lie. There are times when people lie for somewhat good reasons, but that doesn't happen often.

People lie simply to cover up their guilt and the truth. Lying get's a person nowhere besides untrustworthy and disliked by the people around them.

One reason people lie is because it makes them feel safe; like they are in control of a given situation. If in a situation that they think won't be able to control the outcome with the truth, then they'll lie. Telling the truth can also  make people feel vulnerable. The only other reason I can think of is to avoid hurting someone else's feelings. They don't want to feel the guilt that will come with telling someone the truth, which sounds like what your former friend was doing. 

In my opinion, people lie to avoid being hurt, to avoid hurting others, and to avoid trouble. 

Lying is a bad thing, but it's a pathological thing for us all, a way to keep ourselves secure and not collapse. 

I really don't like when people lie so I try not to do it. My brother does it all the time and it gets on my nerves so I try to tell the truth mainly because then you don't have to remember any lies. Of course I wasn't always this way. As I had quite a lying bout on here. That is behind me now, lying is nothing but trouble.

People lie to avoid getting in trouble, and to keep those they care about out of trouble. If you need proof play the game L.A. Noire.

In that game a ton of people lie. For various reasons. To cover their tracks, to keep others safe, or to cover their friends tracks.

We lie because we can. I try to avoid it but sometimes it happens.

People lie as an attempt to avoid whatever is coming towards them. If they've done something bad, stolen something, destroyed something, etc., they try and point the blame at someone else. I think it's just human nature. No, it's not right, but it's a sad part of life.

I've had my friend lie to me for a few reasons. All of them made sense to him, but were actually really stupid. He has lied about things because he thought I'd judge him (which I didn't when I found out). He has lied to a lot of people to try to impress them. I don't understand it, but I'm finding ways to 'deal with it.'

It's easy to lie and not all the time it'll catch up to you but when you lie too much thats when they all know you're nothing but a liar.I had a friend that said he have a big screen T.V once I been to his house there was no big Screen T.V he even lied about having the sega nomad it's a sega genenis handheld that they made in the 90's,he even lied about winning a prize from the vectorman game .He's gonna need proof of all of that and he such a failure at lying.

For me,I find lying kinda good and kinda bad.If someone asks you what your serect is,you can just say a lie.But if you have to do something and someone asks if you finished something you were suppose to do and you lie and say yes,that's bad.

It's the sinful nature we inherent. Enslaved to our sin, we seek the easy way out of trouble or to gain what we want. Excuses are easy to make, a simple way for us to lie to ourselves about the truth.

Natas : People lie because they're either embarrassed by their actions or thoughts or beliefs, or they're afraid of the consequences.

I found that as I got older, I took responsibility for my actions and I made the right choices.  I don't lie and I haven't in years because I stand by everything I say and do.

I find some people lie to make others look bad. My boyfriend's brother's girlfriend for example. She makes up things about my boyfriend all the time in order to turn his brother against him, or for even ME to turn against him/look at him differently. She's a whole different story entirely though, ugh.
I don't really lie, unless it's a little white lie like when someone asks "Are you OK?" and I just say "Yeah" because I don't feel like talking about whatever with them. That's pretty rare though. I find it's better to just be out with whatever needs to be said as opposed to putting it off. 

Sure there are the people that lie to hurt others, but I think for the most part when people lie, they do so to protect people they love (They do not see how they will be more hurt in the long run than if they just told the truth)

Honestly they just think that it is the easier way out to lie, than it is to tell the truth.

Some people lie to hurt others, some people lie because they're afraid, but I think, in general, most people lie subconsciously to protect themselves, and so that they can stop from being wrong.

People lie a lot to keep out of trouble and hurt others. I mean there are a few situations where people will lie, but he or she shouldn't tell a lie all the time because you have to make up more lies to cover up the first one.

I only do little white lies like if someone wants me to tell them how I like a food they have made or a present they have given me I'll always make them feel good and say I like it. That is unless the food is to horrible to eat I will give pointers on how they can improve it. With big things like why I don't want to be with someone, homework, paper work I'll be truthful. When you do big lies they will catch up to you in the end.

People lie for various reasons; to keep out of trouble, to cover up their wrongs, to be polite and keep civil (I've done that many times), protecting themselves, or to be a faker.
