Here's 2 exciting features that I purchased for vizzed and spent nearly a week working on. 


New WYSIWYG Post Editor:
The new post editor lets you customize you post using an interface similar to Microsoft Word.  No more having to rely on HTML, you can now customize the appearance and formatting of your post and see the changes while you're making them.  Highlight a piece of text and simply click the bold icon and it bolds it and the changes appear instantly.

Highlights worth pointing out:
-A new image uploader which replaces the old one and has more features
-Ability to easily switch between Post Editor mode and HTML mode
-Undo button
-Ability to make the Post Editor text area bigger
-When you paste text from an external source, it'll keep its formatting (but you can click the 'Paste Plain Text' icon if you don't want it to keep it's formatting)
-You guys will just have to hover over all the different buttons and play around with them, lots of nice features
 (also the question mark icon at the top right takes you to a page which talks about each feature but notice that a lot of things on that page I didn't include for various reasons)

Notes:
-I'll be making the post editor available on the post edit pages and also on the edit bio page
-I'll keep the font size option available for as long as it doesn't get abused
-User Summoning has problems right now, for the time being, you can only summon 1 person at a time and summoning them has to be the first thing you do in your post (should be fixed within a day or so)


Spell Checker
This is something I've wanted for a long time.  For newbies, when they click to submit a thread, it first brings up the spell checker box which forces them to check their post for spelling errors before submitting it (unfortunately it doesn't force Chrome newbies to spell check their posts).  Although normal users and up aren't forced to spell check their posts, they're encouraged to do so because they'll earn 5 Viz for each post they spell check (no more than 50 Viz a day but you can still spell check more than 10 times a day, you just wont get Viz for each time after 10, just to avoid possible abuse).  Additionally, all posts that have been spell checked will have a 'Post has been Spell checked' message next to them.


Overall, I think these features are for the best.  It'll hopefully increase the post quality on vizzed and make everyone's posting life just a little bit easier (and hopefully funner)

Edit: Just wanted to point out that most of the problems with the new Post Editor have been fixed.

I found several errors with this...

- Preview reply erases your entire post
- The html and formatting increase word count


Ok as I am editing my post it looks like it threw a bunch of line break tags in there as well unless you want to keep it that way. Try editing your post and see.

Well firefox had spell check anyways but like JigSaw said the preview post erases you're entire post and you can't copy paste it back and i'm not sure if it's the spell checker but the summons don't work

Do I need to necessarily use the HTML mode to post simple HTML?

And the only thing I don't really like is the inability to use TAB to submit my reply.

I like it, though I was fond of the old one. The new interface is great. From what I understand though, we can still use html like before?

It looks great! I wouldn't have noticed that this part of the site would need a revamp, but I think it is an improvement. I immediately noticed that it doesn't allow more than one summon, but if you're already busy working on it then I suppose I have no issues to report.

JigSaw : I'm pretty sure HTML has always increased word count.  I'll look into the preview thing, I could've swore I got it working but I guess not

alexanyways : I guess you'll have to play around.  I can adjust the tab behavior if people don't like the current behavior of it.


UserMike: Yeah HTML can still be used for those who know it, you can simply switch to HTML mode.  I'm not sure if you can use HTML in normal mode, someone will just have to play around with it to find out.


Annette: Hopefully I can get summoning to work sometime today or tomorrow.  I figured I've spent so many hours upgrading other parts of the site that it was about time I upgrade the forum itself.  Plus it bothers me when people complain about vizzed being filled with newbies so I want to get rid of that stereotype, hopefully this decreases the newbish behaviors.

the_casualty : Actually I plan to replace the emotions that it comes with, they only look good over white backgrounds and most of the backgrounds of vizzed aren't white

Nice! I really like the new posting style. It makes posting a lot better and instead of coding a ton, I can make posts great without tags and just use some of the features here now

I personally didn't need an editor like this (I'm pretty fluent in HTML), but there are a lot of functions that make posting a lot quicker and easier.

So far it's still going great. Just some relapse of me still having to refresh the page here and there. Other than that. The new post box is doing great. I don't know if anyone else is experiencing, but I'm still looking out for the anymore problems that may occur while I'm posting. I'll keep you updated on the situation.

I love the idea of spell checking. I am one of those people who gets bothered while reading things riddled with spelling errors and words spelled so wrong, you can't understand it even if you sound it out aloud. It drives me crazy. I even have to text with proper spelling. Thanks David.

I love it.  It's awesome.  It looks so professional and neat, and makes me feel like my posts are all well planned big deals, LOL  I love the spell check, and I love the bonus 5 viz, it encourages me to try and get at least ten posts a day, even on the days I don't really feel like it or have time to, LOL  At first I though 5 wasn't all that much, since 50 a day is only half of what you get for logging in, then I realized 5 is half again of what some users get for their posts, and that 100 just for logging in is a lot, lol, so it's fine.  I'm really happy with this and glad you decided to get this upgrade!  It's great!
