Where I am willing to be more open minded about religion.
I am an Atheist when everything gets boiled down to the basic point. I want to know, what is the point of religion? What is the point of Christianity specifically? Or is it just a fancy name for the word distraction? I don't mean to cause any flaming, but what makes Christians different from any other religion, idealogy, or cult? I want to give every religion a fair shake as I decide once and for all if religion is right for me. I am an Atheist when everything gets boiled down to the basic point. I think if you were to give one religion a try, it should be Christianity. It probably has the most and best moral values involved in it, and to me the stories involved make more sense then the others. That said, there are many, many other religions you could definitely try. This is just my view. |

I'm an Atheist myself. I'm more of the I'll believe it when I see it type. A lot of people say when they die that their sins will be judged by the good lord himself to see if you go to heaven or hell. Some people believes when you die, your spirit will roam the earth and people say when you die you will be reincarnated with a different life in a different time. Who knows. If this helps you choose. I too would choose Christianity as well. Like the casual says. Its more moral value and plus at lot less strict. Most other religion haves you doing bizarre things just to show you your ways of worshiping your god. I don't know if this is helpful or not if any of this makes any sense :/ |

The point of Christianity is not to change the government; the point of Christianity is to change individual. The point is not to feel constrained by God; the point is to Worship God.
Worship is not singing; worship is living. It is doing well on a test. It is going for a walk. It is helping a friend. It is forgiving an enemy. It is to use the abilities God gave us, to the best of our abilities so that we praise God. It is not about being religious or spiritual; it is about being in love. Love is a decision. We decide to do what makes the object of our affections grow, or we decide to be selfish and cut them down. We are to love God with all our heart, with all our mind and with all our strength. We are to choose God with all our heart, with all our mind, and with all our strength. Having the option of making that choice is what makes our love real. Worship is not singing; worship is living. Lets start with what is Christianity about. (all the verses i will use are in bold print and are from New International Version, ©2011)
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, This verse tells us that everyone has sinned. The word sin means to break the Laws that God has put in place. It only takes one sin for a person to become a sinner, just as it takes one murder for a person to become a murderer. Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death, Here we are told that because of sin, we have to die. But fortunatly, that is not the end of it. God provided an escape route. Romans 6:23b but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. But how can this be? How come we don't have Christians who are living to be thousands of years old? This is because this verse is not talking about physical death (where the body dies). It is talking about the Second Death, which is eternal separation from God in a place called Hell. How did God provide for us to recieve eternal life? Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to earth to die a terrible death on the Cross so that we don't have to experience the second death. There is one catch (please don't stop here, this is the most important part). Romans 10:13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.†We have to pray and ask God to give us this gift. Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,†and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. I guess there is another catch. You have to actually believe that Jesus died on the cross bearing all our sins, was put into a tomb, and rose three days later. Its not enough just to say that you believe. ------------------- As to what makes Christianity different from other religions. Christianity is the only religion that clames to have a founder that rose from the dead. Christ was dead, completely. John 19: 33 and 34 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. He was dead long enought that his blood had begun to separate. There were many witnesses to the fact that Jesus died. The only way the people of that time would have believed that Jesus had risen from the dead was to see him alive. Christianity is the only religion that gives salvation to people by faith Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— Other religions give a set of rules that a person has to follow to be saved. Not Christianity. The only requirment is a belief that Jesus rose from the dead. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, This verse tells us that everyone has sinned. If you're an atheist then perhaps you can think about godless religions like Buddhism.
Think about history. Gods were created to explain things people didn't know. Volcanoes explode and destroy cities.... well, there's a huge furnace in there and a God is hammering away making swords. Tidal waves hit.... there's a God in the sea sending his wrath. As science explains things, Gods disappear for the most part. There is still one big question, though: What happens when we die? There is no answer yet. My religion doesn't matter but I believe people have religion to feel more comfortable about the unknown. It explains where you came from and where you're going after this is all said and done. I bet if/when science figures out what happens to us after we die, the Big Three major religions will melt away. Will this anger a big population of Vizzed? Yes. I'm sorry. I'm not meaning to insult anyone but I'm answering the questions from my frame of reference. I'm not worried about what happens next. I simply live my life, try to make others happy, and accept what happens. You don't have to have religion to be happy. Just do your thing. Think about history.
