Not so much seeing as I like going outside, climbing, hiking, adventuring. I am not afraid of the dark, so much as the unknown. If I had weapon, and flashlight I would be fine, I could lay on the ground, but might prefer a tree.. I would so do it though!

Well seeing that I am one of those people that gets scared by everything, Id say hell yes, I am afraid to go in the woods by myself in the dark. Mainly for two things, The Blair Witch project, and the Slender Man conspiracy. I am terrified of woods, which sucks because my house is literally a foot away from woods.

I would definitely be afriad to be alone in the woods at night. My imagination would be absolutely out of control. Being a little paranoid, I can get scared being alone at home when it is dark. :s

Yeah, it isn't so much the dark as it is paranoia that settles in. My imagination would probably get me out of control, and I'd just run out of the woods.

I actually love running in the woods at night.

There is nothing more exciting than running in a spooky forest at midnight with your friends, with no lights.

No I am not mainly because all the people who say that bad stuff will happen are just trying to scare you. I am also always usually carrying a pocket knife so if anything happens I am ready.

Not at all, where I live it's all woods/swamps all around.  I also hunt all the time and for White tail season I go out a couple miles into the woods all alone, basically from dark to dark, I may have a gun but I don't carry a flashlight and as any hunter knows a scoped rifle ain't so usable at night.  I've come face to face with most anything in the woods, and at night you can tell when your being watched, that really helps the paranoia lol.  My grandpa runs a bear guide service, so I've tracked wounded bears at night through the woods as well and had more than one charge and when I was 10, me and my pa were walking back up to the cabin and a cougar passed just in front of me.  Nothing in the woods really scares me, cept sasquatch, he's watching, waiting for his chance... and the paranoia sets in

Since I posted a reply awhile ago, I promised I'd tell you all why I am afraid to go into the woods at night. The woods where I live anyway. So here goes...

One night, back in 2007, I had just bought a new video camera and a telescope. I was excited about using them. So my siblings and I got this idea, why don't we go look at the moon, stars, etc. And we brought the video camera with us because sometimes we see things that don't look like airplanes or helicopters and we tape them to see if we can see it better. Anyway... I'll post a picture of the area I'm talking about so you have an idea of where it happened.

IMAGE OF AREA WITH MARKINGS:

We have this bike trail behind my apartment complex. And on the right of the bike trail is the complex itself and on the left side there's a patch of woods. We decided to go past the complex area and set up our telescope and camera on this hill off of the bike trail. Now at the time I was really sick and I wasn't able to climb any steep hills or anything like that, so I stayed on the trail itself. My brother and sister went up on the hill. It was hard to see, of course, because it was like 11:00pm at night. They asked me to go get another flashlight. We had just bought a bigger, brighter flashlight and I said, "Sure, I'll go get it." It made sense for me to get it since they would have to climb back down off this hill and it would've been a huge pain to do that since they would also have to bring down the equipment. I walked back on toward the complex and headed to my apartment. I got the flashlight and started to head back to my siblings. It's not a long, long walk, but it is some distance. This is the scary part...

As soon as I step back on the trail, I get this uneasy feeling, like I want to start running. I just shrugged it off. You know trying to play it cool. Growing up I was told to never show my fear and that's what I was trying to do. I get about maybe 5-6 steps in and I hear this sound of branches snapping, like someone is walking toward me from the wooded area. I was like, okay what's going on here? I speed up my pace a little more but trying to still play it cool. Then I hear some of the bushes rustling and I looked to my right in the wooded area and I see this white misty thing, kind of shaped like a person, but only the upper part of the body. It wasn't cold outside and I knew it wasn't anything like that. I FREAKED! I screamed, words I won't repeat here... and ran the fastest I have ever ran in my entire life!!! I am not athletic at all. But I ran like a professional marathon runner. I kid you not!

I get back to where my siblings are and they ask me, "What happened?" I am out of breath and when I get my composure, I tell them what happened. It gets even creepier. While I was at the other end of the trail, they heard the same EXACT noises I was hearing. They didn't see anything though. Since they knew I was creeped out they decided to move off the hill and move more down on the trail itself. So we moved down and everything is fine for about 15-20 minutes. I'm finally calmed down and we resume enjoying our time together. Then my brother, out of the blue says: "Shhhh! What's that?" At first I thought he was just trying to scare me. I asked him: "What do you mean, what is that? I don't hear anything." Then about a minute and a half after asking, I hear it. It sounds like someone is taking two piece of ply wood and smacking them together. But it was pretty far away, it was kind of an echoing sound. We have a lot of streets and other complexes around us, so I figured it was someone from one of those areas.

Anyway, we listen for awhile. I don't remember how long, and it sounded like it kept getting closer, like coming toward our area. So we're like, "what in the world is that noise and who's doing it?" THEN, we start hearing the sounds in the woods again. Snapping branches, bushes rustling, etc. Then we hear noises like an Indian making squawking sounds in the front of us, which is weird because there's a creek there and you can't even walk on it. And then, there was an apartment empty nearby and we here what sounded like a fireplace going off. We heard all of these noises at once and coming from every direction of us. I was flipping out!!!! We finally said, forget this and went back to the apartment.
Now being the logical person I am, I thought that if my brother and I investigated the area in the morning, when it's daylight out, maybe we can explain the noises. I didn't want to jump to conclusions. So we head back and get ready to walk into the wooded area. Well we weren't able to get in there because it was flooded with water, up to about my hip level. I'm 5'4, so that's still pretty deep and I didn't want to get wet. Plus, I didn't know if anything like a snake or another animal was in the water. There was no way a person or animal could have been in there the night before. Otherwise we would have heard the sounds of water swooshing. There wasn't anyone like living back there or anything. I still refuse to even walk on the trail at night, let alone go into the woods.

Not really, no. I guess it depends on where. If I know the area well, it doesn't bother me because more than likely, I'll be able to find my way back. I have to admit, however, that if I were dropped in the middle of some random forest I'd never been, it would freak me out. >.>

I can't say I am, since I kind of live in the middle of no where..my house is surrounded by trees really..So if I were scared to go outside into the woods at night..I wouldn't leave my house very much, Growing up in the woods makes you not scared of them.

Not that I am afraid, just that I think it would be a foolhardy decision to do so.

The woods closest to me probably have numerous deadly plants and animals, including snakes.

I didn't used to think it was so bad because I have woods right behind my house, but see, around here we've seen bears at night so I stay very close to the house after dark. It's just not safe with the predators that live in the woods. And now the fear has gotten to the point I'm even scared of going out for a smoke, because cougars have been marking their territory on my HOUSE. Literally right on the front porch.

One night a couple of days ago I heard a low growl and a horrible death screech, probably a rabbit. I thought it was a dog that had killed a rabbit, but I was sorely mistaken. A few moments later I heard roars and yowls, and I realized that is no dog.

I heard scampering and cat like noises in the front yard as I looked out my window into pitch blackness, and I thought (and sincerely hoped) that it might be a bobcat chasing a smaller house cat up the apple tree.

I grabbed the big flash light and turned it on, and two pairs of green eyes stared at me, glowing. They had faces exactly like an African lion, and I felt a primordial beat of terror in my heart as a smaller one stared from under the brush and the bigger one stared at me while it stood against the tree. I clearly saw the black tips on their ears and tail ends as they scampered off when they got annoyed at my flash light.

But the smaller cougar wasn't done with me. He hid in the bushes and peered at me, I felt very creeped out and because of the nightmarish screams I couldn't sleep. When I checked again an hour later, he was still staring at the window.

So needless to say, I'm afraid of going out for a smoke anymore without a pistol nearby. However I heard gunshots throughout the valley the other day and I haven't seen or heard the cougars since. I also haven't seen anymore poop or urine sprays. They might be dead, which isn't surprising in the least since they seemed to be going after pets and showed no fear at people.
I didn't used to think it was so bad because I have woods right behind my house, but see, around here we've seen bears at night so I stay very close to the house after dark. It's just not safe with the predators that live in the woods. Maybe I would be a bit scared... Darkness, without any light and full of strange sounds... Ewww, scary.

It all depends on the forest. It could have a whole bunch of bears. Or it could be full of candy.

But maybe I'd be a bit scared.
