My Sunday started out like any other day. Woke up, had some coffee and some homemade breakfast burritos. Mmmm... Well after I took my girlfriend to work I came back home and relaxed outside my cabin with some more coffee. My mom was already burning some trees, sticks, and just cleaning up around the back of her cabin. So i decided to give her a hand. After burning stuff and being on the chainsaw for an hour, I tried making another fire to speed up the process. I got some sticks, pine tree branches, and some paper together. And of coarse it went out after I lit it. So I had a great idea to grab some gas and start it that way. Not knowing I was about to do something very stupid, I started pouring the gas on my fire. Mind you it looked completely put out. No smoke no embers that I had seen. But apparently I was wrong. I was knelt down about two feet away from where I was pouring the gas. I only had about ten tablespoons of gas in my cup. Thats still a lot of gas. Big DUH on my part because about three seconds of slowly pouring the gas on the brush, BOOM it blew up in my face. I threw the cup back behind me and some poured out on my shirt igniting me. Falling backwards, instantly I started rolling around trying to roll the fire out. As I took a breath I could feel the fire and the taste of gas run down my throat. So I covered my mouth with my hand as I was still rolling around. But just rolling around wasn't working and by that time my mom came running over and tried patting me out. That too wasn't working so I flung my shirt off and sure as hell the fire stayed with the shirt and I was free. And damn it was HOT ride!! I must of thrown the cup behind me because the tree behind me was on fire eight feet up. lol. I got up and walked to my cabin, grabbed a couple gallons of water and poured it all over my face and my arms. It was an hour drive to the nearest hospital so my mom drove 90 mph the whole way there no joke. I now have 3rd degree burns on two spots of my arm. Not too big though. The rest are 2nd and 1st degree. Over half my arm is burned, a little bit of my neck, and half my face got burned. Goes to show that you DON'T restart a fire with gas. Make a new one with your gas. Now I'm still in the hospital. Every morning my bandages have to be changed and my arm needs to be whipped down. Ill tell you one thing, morphine does not do the trick... still hurts like s***! They got me on perkasets right now and it still hurts like hell. I leave the hospital tomorrow which is nice. But I guess s*** happens when your not paying attention. Maybe someone can learn from my stupidity and start a fire safely. Respect the flame.

pieman9 : that's very inconsiderate and mean to say. what if YOU got burned, and someone laughed at you?

Gosh, that must have been a horrible experience! I hope that you recover, and tell others so they will learn not to do that.

I didn't even read the post, to be honest. I thought his arm was on fire for like a fraction of a second or something, but no. HE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I have to agree with everyone here. What I said was really rude. I mean, god?! I even put it in caps.

Holy shiet!! dude dam. yeah I try to be careful but I have been known to be absent minded. Like when my bro stuck his arm out, to stop me from walking out into the street early. I had my attention on what I was holding, but still walking. Dam dude.

Ouch X(

I've never been in that sort of experience I've had a finger on fire for a fraction of a second with a mistake with a match, but no more. That must have hurt alot.

Good thing you are alright though.

What's weird is I don't remember feeling the burning sensation of being on fire. I do remember just a little bit of heat and about 10 minuets afterwords, it feeling like someone was ripping my arm off. Every morning at the hospital, my arm gets a cleaning and every time, it feels like someone is torching my arm... Now I'm not trying to get sympathy from anyone, but I appreciate the positive feedback. I just like being involved with this site and just telling you people a story in my life. Maybe if you think your life sucks, just read my story again and tell yourself, "Well at least I never got set on fire." lol

Ouch. And I mean OUCH. I've been burned before, enough to know that you really don't feel much of anything while you're in the process of being burned, That it only really hurts when it gets touched later, but my burn was not even close to being on this scale. It was just the end of a finger for me, and it healed quickly enough. It sounds like you had the misfortune of getting a rather large 3rd degree burn. That can't be fun. Hope you get well soon.
