I'm worried that I'm starting to drift further and further to just not believing in God. I believe in him now, and I want to believe in him, but the more and more evidence presented that claims he isn't real, the less and less I truly believe in him and I've started to feel lately that my heart is at war with my brain, and I'm constantly debating about it in my head... my mind is trying to tell my heart that there is no god, and my heart is trying to tell my mind to have more faith. What should I do to make myself believe more? And atheists, don't come in here and try to sway me not to believe. That's not what I'm looking for.

well try reading the bible that should help . i have had the same problem so i know how you feel

Actually, back up from that question. Maybe you should consider telling us your background in your journey of faith before we can talk to you about it. I don't want to jump the gun without knowing what your situation is.

Well personally I think that once you have believed in Him that nothing will sway you to fully not believe. On the other hand, what can be swayed is your dedication to Him.

EmosewaRepus : your hearts in the right place but your brain says otherwise try going to your local church or try to make you choice based on what YOU think is right faith is up to you my friend you can change it you control your faith its all up to you.

There is room for science and religion to coexist. The religious folks want to believe what they want and science mocks religion for some reason or another.

You can believe in God and be happy in your faith and relationship with him and still accept scientific theories. There is nothing wrong with both at the same time. In fact, science proves God's existance as far as it can be proved.

Unfortunately, you can't truly prove it. FAITH means you're believing something in the absence of proof. Believe in God. He's around and you know it. Believe in science. Science is good and helps humankind.

Do both.

I'm an atheist, but I'm definitely not here to sway you.

I usually listen to my heart before I will listen to my brain. Because the brain tells me to always do the logical thing, and when it comes to religion, it's really not that logical, being based on faith.

I listened to my heart, and I became an atheist because in my heart it was what I felt.

Lately, my heart has made me think otherwise, so who knows what'll happen.

I have to post here, you sound like me about two hours ago (i mean this literally).
I have been nervous for a long time that i was losing my faith. The thing that helped me was looking at current events and then seeing how the stage is being set for the events in the book of Revelation.


Another thing that is helping me right now is looking outside, at the trees, the sky, the animals, and even the people. It seems to have God written all over it.

Last, and most importantly, to help releave some of your doubts, read your Bible and study it. If you run into something that you do not understand, ask someone who has more knowlege about the scriptures then you do.

well i would try seeking refuge in people of your own religion or talkign to your priest but the way it seems to me is your FORCING yourself to be a religion for some reason.
You dont have to be in a religion just believe what you think sounds most believable or aplicable to you, you dont have to flog a dead horse

tRIUNE : id kind of disagree with that,seeing as i was christian up until about age 10 when i realised 1-that i only 'believed' because my school always taught christianity and 2-i decided no one has the right to own me.

As for emosewarepus: id agree with the points above that say go to church and talk to other christians.
Better still tell the minister/priest at your local church of your conflict,its his job to inspire faith and given hes devoted his life to christianity is surely best placed to argue for it.

And always remember to be patient with yourself.  I don't think there is as much rush to make a decision as the world kind of makes you believe. The fact that you are thinking about and wrestling with your faith is important, and I believe God recognizes and appreciates that.  Take your time to figure out who God is and how He fits in with your life; the answers will be much more meaningful to you that way.

Here is what I would do. I would go to the person with the strongest faith that you know of that is near you. Like a pastor, a friend, or some one like that. Then you should tell them what is going on and ask them to help you and they should. Also it helps me to go to church every sunday don't forget that

What I meant by my last post was: when you have faith in God through Christ, even as small as a mustard seed, then you will have God in your life, and he will be the dominant factor of your life. Does that make more sense?

Just do what ever feels right for you and makes you happy, even if it means converting to another religion or becoming an atheist. I don't see much point of being an atheist if you are unhappy or unsatisfied with it and I think the same thing about being a believer. I also think that what people say here won't make you closer to God, it has to come from your personal desire to believe.

This is coming from an atheist so it may seem like I am talking out of my ass (sorry if it does) but sadly I am not that talented.

cooleo : You shouldn't get mad at people because they say there is no God. Jesus taught to love your neighbor and your enemy. I understand that your love of God may make you feel this way, but atheists are generally good people too, and they deserve just as much respect as any Christian.

I don't believe in god, and you shouldn't WANT to believe in something that you don't.

but if you want to keep believing in him go for it. But everything that exist about the basic laws of physics. Which have already been established by, well everyone. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if in about a century from now, nobody believed in 'god' because technology and science are expanding to such incredible extremes.

soon Christmas and such will just be normal holidays for children, instead of having any sort of religious reason behind what they really are!

not to mention how having most forms of technology from recent times, that can mimic events stated in the bible. Pretty much states that any religious person in this day and age is a hypocrite.

so honestly. Believe what you will. But there is no god, or at least not one meant for a religion
