This month's competition is for Pikachu Dig Dug (rom hack) for the Nintendo. You can play it here:

All you have to do is get the highest score in the game. You MUST play the game using the NESCafe emulator and take a screenshot of your top score from that - you HAVE to do a high score run so go half way down the page and to the right where it shows the scores you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for High Score', click that. Whoever has the highest score when the month ends wins.

I checked it out. It's tough, I need practice. I'm not as good as I used to be at Dig-Dug.

I don't usually play Rom Hacks, but this one is well done.

This is probably a silly question, but how do I go about popping the othr Pokemon? I can't figure out which key to use.

Davideo7 : Like how to attack them, cause I have only been able to kill them squishing them with rocks and I remember popping them with something in te original.

Ohh you shoot them with your power and the key to use the power should be on the play window.

I can't score more than 4000 points Any tips anyone? I'm no good at dig dug at all, never have been

BTowns : Well i'm not sure if you know or not. but you can still attack the enemies when they go into the eyes formation. Make sure you look out for rocks they can be used to help you or kill you. because if an enemy gets crushed by one they will die. Also if you have 3 enemies all in normal state DON'T Run this is basically suicide because they will catch up to you and kill you. Another this is when the enemy tries to run away at the end of the level always try to shoot/zap it. One More tip you don't have to get the wall of sand all open to get to your enemy if there is a small wall of sand you can still shoot and it will attack your foe.

That is basically all i can think of in the way of tips.

Practice. That's really all I can say, you have to get used to the movements of some of the enemies.

Personally, I go after the 2 closest enemies and pop them, then I retreat to a corner near the surface and let the others come to me. If I see one coming at an awkward angle, I move near a rock and try to crush it under it.

The final tip is once again, practice, play around with different strategies.

My high score right now is about 20,000 not nearly high enough Need to play some more.

Okay, thanks guys. Yeah, the practice will be difficult to spend time on though, since I'm also trying to play the catch em all tournament, and I'm severely behind the people who already have files. As games have evolved over the years, they've become drastically easier... LOL Every time I try to use the rocks though, I miss or kill myself. This game was a really good pick to fit with the pokemon theme, and it's really challenging to make this competition intense, LOL

Alright. I at least used to be good at Dig Dug. Let's see how I do now.

BTowns : Here are some key tips that should help out:

1. When firing, hit the fire button repeatedly to kill enemies faster. It takes too long to just hold the button down and pump them up.

2. When you have multiple enemies stalking you (one right after the other), stun one of them with a couple of hits, retreat, then quickly hit the other one who will pass the stunned enemy. You now have enough time to kill one, then the other.

3. Enemies are worth more points, the farther down the screen you are. Each shaded area provides different values. Also, they're worth more if you shoot them horizontally instead of vertically.

4. You can shoot ghosts through the dirt if they're close enough.

5. When you have more than one enemy in an enclosed tunnel, dig just close enough to leave a little wall between you and their tunnel. You can now shoot through that wall. Watch out, though...they can turn into ghosts and get you. You have to be quick. Also, the fire-breathers can get you through that little wall, but they only fire at you horizontally...not vertically.

6. When you make a tunnel under a rock (just short of making it drop), you can sometimes pick enemies off one at a time, since they hesitate to attack you, knowing you're getting ready to drop it. This helps a LOT in the later rounds, when they get really fast. Don't worry about points...it's better to take out as many as you can, and focus on getting the bonus prizes.

7. You need to drop rocks on enemies whenever you can. Worth a lot more points. Dig LONG tunnels underneath the rocks to give the enemies no chance to escape. Stun a few of them if you have to, in order to get more into your tunnel.

8. You have to drop at least TWO rocks to get the bonus prize. This is a MAJOR way to earn points in this game, as the prizes are worth a max of 8,000 points in the later rounds. This is how you get high scores...don't miss the prizes. Drop your rocks before you're down to one enemy, as he'll make a run for it to escape, making you miss the prize.

That's about it. If you can master these tips, you'll rack up on this game. I guarantee it! Also, these tips apply to the original Dig Dug as well. They're the same exact game.

Neal : Those are some really good tips. I was introduced to Dig Dug about 20 years ago and have played it many times since and I didn't even know tips 1 and 3 that you posted.
