Okay guys, I was thinking about this since yesterday. I wanted to know what your thoughts were on obsession? Also, have you ever encountered anyone who was obsessed with you? If so, did they think they weren't? Just something I wanted to talk about.

Yes I had a few girlfriends that were obsessed with me thats the reason I broke up with them. Because they were smothering me.

obsessed lol reminds me of a movie i saw with beyonce in it, it was pretty good of course it is just my opinion but i hav had a girlfriend obsessed with me, and it was a pretty bad situation something i don't ever want to relive again, lets pray it never happens again!

I think the only person who has ever been considered to be "obsessed" with me was a girl who stalked me some years back.

Obsession is an interesting state of mind, I'd say. I sometimes think I'm obsessed with people who have serious obsessions. Which might be equally out of hand haha

Everything can be an obsession. A certain feeling for someone who you can't forget or a bitter feeling where you crave for revenge. Obsessing over ideas and about who is right and wrong - look it throughout history, full of obsessed people, most used example would be Hitler, I guess. And of course, not only in history, all around us, every day... when you go out to a pub or whatever the place and discover yourself talking to someone about something for hours, and I mean the kind of talk where you try to make the other person understand, that it's fine that you 2 have different opinions on something, but the other person won't give in and still wants you to believe his/her idea...that's an obsession too. And for me, it's the most irritating one.

I once wondered over obsessions and addictions. I mean, does one cause the other, and if, then which? Or do they go both ways?
When you grow up for example seeing drug addicted people all around you, you might get obsessed with "no to drugs" kind of attitude or you can give into drugs and make it your obsession.( Or is it even right to compare drugs with obsessions?)

so into it or cannot stand something. That's what I think it means.

My thoughts on the word obession? I believe that if you look up the word "obession" in the dictionary you should see a picture of me. I get obessed over things REALLY easily. Most of the time their just crushes on actresses I like (Summer Glau, Ellen Page, Jodelle Ferland) but other times it's over a book (The MagicianS by Lev Grossman. I made the "s" capital because everyone keeps thinking I'm talking about "The Magician" which ALOT more famous and ALOT more lame. I'm talking about the book with Breakbill's College and Fillory), or it might be over a videogame (Tales of Symphonia1, the second one SUCKED...POOP!), or it might a TV show (Firefly, named the 8th best TV show of all time on the InternetMovieDataBase, it's high rank did not save it from being cancelled after one season because Fox aired all the episodes out of order however).

When I hear obsession, I think of two things:
1. Someone stalking some person he or she likes
2. Those preteen girls who freak out over Justin Beaver and Twilight.

To me obsession is just something that you can't let go, you sorta refuse to let go and you become completely addicted to it.
And no, I've never had anyone be obsessed with me in anyway

Well, I think personality-wise obsession can be stalking (as some people have perceived) or just a super 'mind over matter' kind of deal where you "just have to" do something. OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is an example of someone with a super high Conscientious personality style, where attention to detail is a must and certain things must be done right or it 'bothers' you. I don't have a high enough conscientious style (according to the tests we did in psych) to say I have anything near OCD level, but I feel the need to finish things (video games, activities, shows, etc). 
In the stalker sense, I think 'obsessed' is more like someone who "needs" someone else to be with them or they feel they cannot survive. 

Thus concludes my knowledge/memory of my psychology class discussions in this particular category. 

Bintsy : Same! This girl in the grade below me started stalking me, but I didn't even know who she was. To me, she was just another sixth grader.

Well to me a definition of obsession would be caring to much. I would say that a few people have been obsessed with me but that is probably because I am so ' mysterious' I really did no care because it was pretty much a girl being way more flirty then before. The only bad part was she followed me, but we were friends so it was a little less akward.
