I check to see whats going on in the chatroom almost eveytime I look at the index page. But I dont get in there that often until I catch up on posting and none of my friends are on comet chat. But I do get in there on special occasions like if my friends want me in there for something or if sombody is being bullied and nobody is doing anything about it.

If they're talking about something, don't try to change the topic, but stay with the topic they have, and then try to change it later, when it gets quiet. And don't say anything rude or stupid not relating to the subject, and don't say "Why is everybody ignoring me?", because that will cause people to ignore you, because that makes you seem demanding and whiny. Just some guidelines for the future, I went through that same thing when I first went into the chatrooms.
