A ton of updates lately, I've easily put 48 hours into the site over the past 3 days and on Sunday I worked on the site for literally 24+ hours straight, I skipped sleeping because I wanted to get as much stuff done as possible before I begin working on freelance work. Ok well here's the recent updates:



Sub Forums
Almost all the forums have sub forums. In a sense, a "sub forum" on vizzed is basically a 'filter', a 'tag' and a 'sub forum' mixed into 1 idea. When you go to a forum, you'll see all the threads of that forum including all the threads of the sub forums. When you go to a sub forum, you'll only see threads that have been assigned to that sub forum.

On the forum index, you'll see the top used sub forum for each forum and you'll also see a 'None' sub forum, that lets you view all threads of that forum that aren't assigned to any sub forum. When you click into a forum, you can see all the sub forums that forum has.

Anyone can make a thread in a sub forum. When making a thread, you can choose from all of the current sub forums. Trusted Members and up can make new sub forums by selecting "Other" as their sub forum and filling out the Other box. Also worth pointing out is if you're in a sub forum and you go to make a thread, the sub forum info is already filled out so that when you make that thread, it'll be assigned to the sub forum that you were just in.

I think this is the most innovative forum feature in a while and it's thanks to JigSaw for inspiring the idea. This is also one of the more time consuming forum features I've worked on and it'll be time consuming for staff since soon they'll have to begin assign threads to sub forums and moving threads from forum to forum.

For those who want less forums, we actually have less forums than we did before and for those who wanted more forums, because of the sub forums we have more forums so this really satisfies everyone. This also makes finding a specific thread so much easier. I've also noticed that posting has gone up a bit since this feature has gone up and even I myself have felt more motivated to post because of it



RGR Game to Thread Linking
On every RGR game page, you can see all threads assigned to that specific game and you also can click a link which lets you create a thread for that game. When you create a thread and link it to an RGR game, not only does it become visible on the RGR game page but on the thread you'll also have info added from the RGR game including boxart, screenshots, description, rating, other info and also a link to the game.

Only the Retro Game Room forum allows you to link threads to RGR games but you can link the RGR games to any of the sub forums within the Retro Game Room forum.

This is a feature I've wanted to do for a very long time and I'm pretty excited to finally have it. The current chat box is good for talking about a game but for a serious conversation a thread is the best option. I have a feeling this will also get some RGR game players to post and I've noticed 2 threads have already been made that have been linked to threads.



New Forum Index
The forum index page is now more organized and easier to use for newbies. Before we had a big page and often times newbies didn't even know forums existed. Now you can see all the main forums in 1 view and they not only take up less room but are also easier to look at.



New Site Index
https://www.vizzed.com page also got an update. It now shows all the forums but more compact and less info, probably easier for newbies since it's more simple. I also placed the most recent 3 site announcements at the top of the page.

geeogree : Yeah I think the restructure is done unless I'm forgetting something. I'll make a thread soon in the staff forum so that we can get things more organized.

The new forum structure looks awesome, and has definitely rendered it easier for me to navigate. And the RGR to thread thing is really awesome.

I just thought of 1 other thing....

that list of forums that we use when we move threads (we being staff).... includes a lot of unused forums.... any chance you could reduce that list? Or somehow distinguish the forums being used from the forums not being used.

geeogree : I'm going to have to take care of that eventually. What I might do is have the staff move the threads out of those unused forums and than just delete the forums all together. I'd hate to delete the forums while they have threads in them.

I really like it, helps me sort out threads better. It's a huge improvement on the forum structure, and we are hardly an Acmlm based forum anymore. You've been talking about it for a long time, and it seems you did as exactly as you wanted it to be.

But, for Web Splurge's description, it says Spiral Vids, and it's Viral Vids. Might confuse people, but the same message is being thrown across.

Linking the RGR to threads is genius.I cant wait to find something to say about my favorite game in the RGR "Flashback the quest for identity" maby i can get more people to play it.
