I found a really interesting chat room software for vizzed, however it's far beyond my budget but they have a monthly membership which is far cheaper than simply purchasing it. At $30 a month, I might be able to justify it. Here are the prices:

Looks nice and has lots of features however is it really worth paying $30 a month for a chat system? That is almost as much as I pay for my server per month... The one we have now works fine. Only thing with this new one is the price I don't think its worth wasting money for right now... If you had hundreds of people using it yeah much more worth it.

I would like to use that chatroom. It WOULD be interesting. The problem is, I have no money of my own, so I will not be able to help fund a chatroom, however, I am all for getting one, and it would probably boost activity on the front board for a while. I'm not positive though, I'm not much of a genius with this stuff.

Anyway, it'd be cool to have but I'd rather see other things first. Not bad, but not important.

this seems awesome dav. me and all the other chatters would love this. it is defintly worth the money as jigsaw said. new kids come to the chat every day. soon there will be hundreds.

I like it, but I think that it is way too expensive for only the few users that would use it.

I think the current one is fine in terms of cost.

yeah, the current chat system is enough.... I wouldn't pay $30 a month for a chat system. Maybe if you could pay a certain amount for a licence to use the chat from there on out.... but forever paying for it seems silly.

I would stick with the current chat. And either upgrade it yourself or hope for new upgrades

I told him to tell you that there is a hidden cost. The $30 is just to get started; then you have to get it hosted there and...bah.

The cheapest one I can find is www.eyeballchat.com. It has nearly all the features of the other one.

the_casualty is right, there is a hidden cost, and i think the pro one was $300, but we could always go and use a torrent to get it.
but maybe we should also try for a free one if we cant go for a good torrent? i know one thats pretty good for these terms of what we want...

If you want the good stuff, that's gonna run you up even more.

If interested I could make a chat room / messanger thing. Good thing about making our own chat is:

1) No reinstalling it every update
2) Easy to add features, can add them in anytime and do whatever the heck we want with it
3) Remote hosting is a disadvantage for chat room it means the chat will practically have no functionality with vizzed board and how it works. For instance, banning someone on a remote chat is just pointless it should go hand in hand with the ban feature we got.
4) ITS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

As nice as it would be, it costs 800 bucks a year with video chat. That's nasty. It was actually a hidden cost, they said that it would all be for $30, but they lied. 30 bucks on that gets you a max of 50 people in the rooms at the same time, and that's pretty much all the use it. Anyways, do what you want, it's an amazing system with the most possible features for the littlest price. It seems to work perfectly, and all the features are pure awesome, especially the Kick/Ban, something that we needed for a long time, and it's iPhone compatible, with music/video sharing, which is also a well wanted system.

I'll tell you what, I won't eat lunch for a week, and I'll give you $25, well worth it.

JigSaw : Seeing as you're pretty good with programming/code and stuff, that'd be cool.

geeogree : They do let you purchase a license but it's expensive, between $500 - 1500 for unlimited connections.

JigSaw : Did you even see all the features it has? Most of it requires flash knowledge and would take years to incorporate. Features such as video chat is just 1 of them. The only way I'd replace the current is if I was going with one with far more features, what inspired me to look for other chat rooms was the video chat since some users of the site were using a different chat room which had video chat which left the vizzed chat room empty.


I'll either keep looking or ban users for advertising external chat rooms in the current chat room and just keep what we have.

I'd stick with what you have. To me video chat isn't worth paying to have when there are so many free options available to people.

I think that a new chatroom with way more features would be really cool, and I would love to just be able to kick out all of the people who disrespect the chat. But if it would cost that much to update the chat then you might aswell just keep the regular chat until the site has alot more activity. There is also only a small portion of the active users that really use the chat on a regular basis, so spending this much money on this would be pointless unless a lot more people regularily visit the chat.

While I agree it's not worth it at this point, having a fancy chat room loaded with tons of awesome features may encourage more people to use the chat room. However, if more people use the chat room, less people may post which ultimately hurts vizzed more than it helps.

I think that would be a great new feature, but then again, it may be TOO much. Hmmm. And I would post just as much as I do now, so don't worry about that from me.

Davideo7 : The cost could possibly be waived if you get some Google Adsense or something in that banner space...if enough people use the chat you could possibly even turn a profit. Why such strict rules on people that use external chat rooms (i.e. tinychat)?

the_casualty : If someone is advertising a site that takes traffic away from vizzed that's considered bad advertising and hurts vizzed, only makes sense to not allow it. Plus vizzed staff is unable to moderate an external chat room so therefore things become out of our control of vizzed members are using that instead of what vizzed offers and whoever created the chat room has all the control, even if they aren't a vizzed staff member.
