I'm really glad you made a thread on this topic. I've been thinking about this myself. I know that no one is allowed to attack someone else but what if they were attacked first? It's like for school, when someone tries to hit you, but you hit them, you get in trouble even though you were just protecting yourself. So if you were outside and someone mugged you and shortly they were going to kill you, but you had a knife (I don't know why) so you just stabbed them. You'd still have to go to jail even though all you did was protect yourself. This question I believe is truly up to the people. There are multiple people who do think this is a sin but I personally don't. Protecting yourself may not always require killing someone in the process but if it truly does then I don't believe that it is a sin.

The bible or whatever says "If they hit you on the cheek, let them hit you over the other cheek." Something like that.

But considering it's self defense and not a dumb dude intent on killing someone, I would imagine it would be okay. If you really felt bad about it, you could always ask someone to forgive you.....

If you kill them when you could simply have detained them, for example if you took a gun away from them and shot them in the head instead of the knee, then it's almost as good as murder. Otherwise, if you don't defend yourself and let yourself come to harm it's the same as suicide. Turning the other cheek applies more to verbal abuse or bullying, not threats upon your life. Jesus died for us, we don't need to be martyrs and die too to get to heaven, he accomplished that so we don't have to.

now say if the person was holding a gun to your close family and didnt know you were behind him and you had just got a kitchen knife, he's about to pull the trigger what would you do with the knife. I dont think id have the guts to but at that moment you'd be filled with adrenanline.

i think it is possible to kill in self defense  i know the above scenario is more defense of family then 'self' defense but there are scenarios where killing could be neccesary to survival.
