I had the hiccups for an entire day one time.... my chest/body hurt for a few days afterwards because I just kept hiccuping over and over and couldn't stop. It was awful.

Oh, yes, I get them often. If I eat fast food, or really good food, I usually eat too quick and get hiccups. Chinese food and my fiancee Annette's vegan pasta alfredo give me them like instantly. Also, if I have a really good drink like a smoothie, I'll drink too quick and get bad hiccups. They hurt, I have really strong ones

I've found that holding your breath for a while pretty much kicks everything back into order, like a defibrilater. Shame, really. My life would be so much more amusing if I didn't know...

I agree with BTowns if i eat food to fast i get hiccups but i havent had hiccups in a long time i heard you can get hiccups if you get frightened in some way. but i dont know if its true or not.

From everything I've heard, they're caused by an excess of oxygen thats trying to get out. I don't know if it actually works but getting frightened is a way of getting rid of them.

It's never failed for me. For some reason though, it doesnt work for any of my friends. I always just think they dont know how to hold their breath right.
