So come this August I will have had my youtube channel for twenty years. My channel is older than Google's ownership of the site (not to mention needing our Gmail Password to login) and my original intention was to watch all the Whose Line content I wanted....and I end up staying for the Nostalgia I rediscover. My channel is that old, when the rating system was used with Stars, when the site had friend requests (yeah they had that once upon a time) when videos had to be less than ten minutes long, before Watch Later was even a thing

in 2 months my channel will turn 13 years old I originally made it just so I could subscribe to some channels back in the day I don't even remember which ones really got me started but I believe I made my first video 4 months later? At this point it's been so long I don't even remember I know back then youtube had a message feature which was removed a year or 2 later good times.

well if my earliest subscriptions were Whose Line those channels would be long gone because once Google ownership kicked in so did the copyright claims. And yeah I remember the private messaging feature too in fact I heard they're planning on bringing it back.

So is this about how old your YouTube channels are or how old your subscriptions are? Reading the posts, I’m so confused so I’m gonna stick with the first one.

My only YouTube channel is about 12 years old and it’s gonna be 13 this upcoming June. Never really needed to sign up other than to record videos on gaming consoles and upload videos so…. I mean it’s kinda handy but I rarely use any features. Just watch videos and enjoy my leisure

becerra95 : yeah it is mostly about how old your channel is. Nothing really wrong with bringing up your original intentions with the channel.

My current channel will be 12 years old in about a month? It's weird to think it's been that long. It's changed a lot over time - there's a huge jump in the types of videos, not to mention the quality. Here's hoping I do more with it in the near future.

My channel is from January of 2007, which makes it 19 years old.

My oldest video is from February of 2009, which was an NES Trivia video.

So I had some pretty big gaps between signing up and between posting videos.

While we're at it, I should mention that my 2nd most popular video is from 2012, which was my Phantasy Star Online gameplay for the Dreamcast, which was of me playing it for the last time before they took down servers (the video much older though and was recorded on VHS), so technically that's my oldest video.

Davideo7 : well I didn't start uploading stuff on my channel until 2017, and that was for the purpose of feeding my Youtube Playlist OCD (it's something I made up dating back to when playlists had a two hundred video limit), I didn't really start to do gaming videos until 2018 because all I wanted to do more than anything was play Oregon Trail 3rd edition again (and I wish I told myself 9 years sooner that I had to play with compatability) and once I was able to get virtual machines working I wanted to do alot more with it than just fulfill my nostalgic needs, and that's when the gaming videos started

and then just before COVID ruined everyone's 2020 I found a device that would help me rip content from VHS's and that's how my youtube channel became a literal Nostalgia Pit

Well if you must know continuing from your last post David the oldest stuff I posted were episodes of Ned's Newt a forgotten animated show from Canada that found an audience thanks to Qubo. Like I had said I only started uploading because I wanted to stifle my Youtube Playlist OCD. I'm also kind of in the process of setting some vids to private as I'm pondering their future on my channel. I'm also considering closing some comments because there's a glitch that Google won't fix even though I reported it but if you want to see my channel. I also caught Dauntez commenting once, and since I knew he wasn't a teenager yet I had to tell him while I appreciate his presence I don't want him commenting yet

I've been watching since the 2000s but mine exists since 2013. I mainly use it to separate it from my personal email address and that associated channel. Everything gaming goes on or gets watched on this channel.

There's some older videos on there for a few Vizzed related competitions, some stream clips from the Vizzed Minecraft streams David did with us, and some gameplay videos as well. It's not active at the moment, though I'm on a new laptop so who knows what I can do with it

although i've technically been active on youtube since i was around 10 or 11 (long before that if watching youtube videos on bing counts lol), my channel is only a little over 11 years old as of january. my oldest video is technically coming up on its 11 year anniversary, too, although if you actually look on my channel, it'll be my second video bc i didn't have my channel verified until december lol.
originally it was mostly just for me to more easily interact with and subscribe to the channels i had already been watching at that point (many of which i'm still subscribed to, even to this very day), although i definitely did plan on uploading my own content at some point. funny thing is, that content has changed so much over the past decade (and my name once, too, going from the initial name of AnimeGamer to my current name tsundereCat [TC] sometime in 2017). before it was mostly for gaming related stuff, like let's plays, but then for the longest time it turned into random memes and the occasional ytp. nowadays it's mostly for music, since i ran out of minutes on soundcloud, but i do still post memes every now and then.

A bit of a tougher question... obviously as I'm sure is the case for most of us here, we've been "watching" for a lot longer than uploading. According to my YouTube's About Me page I'm coming up on 15 years next month, which sounds about right - I don't think I'd have been watching videos at a significant rate before that. I'm sure I've only seen the odd video here or there when I was younger than 10.

In regards to uploads, my first one was 14 years ago, recording an osu! video on my really crappy laptop that was throwing a fit over running both the recording software and osu! at the same time lol. The video looks like it barely even runs at 15fps.

Technically mine is 16 years old. At least based on where I uploaded some videos... probably older than that but since I never really started it with the intent of having a youtube channel I'm going to go with that.

I had thought about doing something with the channel for many years but never really got around to doing anything. Always felt self-conscious about being a YouTuber.... and I didn't think it was something that I would have really succeeded in doing.

geeogree : I don't blame you to be honest I had been self conscious about copyright claims (just don't upload anything that you know will be dangerous like Disney, WB, or the biggest bad of all Viacom...which is Paramount and Nickelodeon and MTV) and those copyright bots can be so finnicky (but sometimes if you do wait it out the claim will expire)
