Vizzed went down over 2 days ago for unplanned reasons. I had contacted Hostgator and they said it would take up to 48 hours for the server to be brought back online. Here's what they had to say:

"It would appear that your server encountered an issue when it was rebooted due to the newest kernel installed being corrupt. I was able to get the server back online by booting into the older kernel installed on the server, then reinstalling the new kernel.

The server is now running and the services all appear to be running with out any issues. This issue you encountered is not a common thing, and just a random failures that can happen rarely."


I know a lot of companies are under staffed these days but it being down for this long was unacceptable in my opinion. I might consider looking into another company to host the site in the upcoming months, possibly Azure (Microsoft) or Google.

I'm glad the site is back up with no further complications etc.

But I do agree that it's not okay for it to take this long for them to fix an issue that was caused on their end. You'd think especially during these times they would want to prioritize keeping their clients happy and getting to issues quickly so they don't switch to another host.

Glad it was just an issue, it's always worrying to see the site being down for prolonged periods of time.

Even if it's a rare failure, it doesn't seem like it should have taken them so long to bring it back up. The only thing that's stopping me from doing it sooner rather than later is the amount of time it takes to migrate to a new service, and that results into some more down time and potential unforeseen issues.

I'm happy that the site is back up and nothing was lost. I'm also happy that the hosts got back to you and explained what had happened. As someone that has been hosting sites myself with other hosts, that's not too common, at least not getting as clear of an answer that you got is common. Since everything seems to be back up and running, let's get back to work!

I'm very much a fan of supporting smaller services that aren't part of the current tech monopoly, but this probably would get me looking at other options. I was wondering what was going on, but I just dismissed it as my internet being wonky. If Vizzed didn't need so much storage and everything, I'd suggest self-hosting, but it's not that simple in this case.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.
