This year could end up being one of the more memorable ones in gaming history. There are quite a few video game franchises that are going to be celebrating big anniversaries in 2021. Here's a list of ones I can name you off the top of my head. (If you can think of any others, let me know and I'll add them to the list.)

Donkey Kong - 40th anniversary
The Legend of Zelda - 35th anniversary
Sonic the Hedgehog - 30th anniversary
Pokemon - 25th anniversary
Persona - 25th anniversary
Crash Bandicoot - 25th anniversary
Dead or Alive - 25th anniversary
Resident Evil - 25th anniversary
Halo - 20th anniversary
Devil May Cry - 20th anniversary

I could see most if not all of these franchises either getting new entries or getting ports to systems where some of their games are not present. This is going to be a big year in gaming as a whole, and I for one am excited to see everything this year has to offer. I think it's safe to say we'll see an announcement for Breath of the Wild 2 later this year, and that it'll be the big game for Nintendo at the end of the year. What other announcements do you guys think or hope will happen?

I'm really hoping that they do something great for Pokemon. I wouldn't mind if they did Diamond remake or if they brought the old games to NSO.

As for Persona, we already have Persona 5 Strikers coming next month and with Persona 4 Golden on PC now, I wouldn't be surprised if they ported 3 and 4 to the Switch.

Man that's a lot of anniversaries this year but I do wanna correct that it's Sonic's 30th anniversary this year not his 25th. Anywho I'm excited to see what they do with a lot of these I don't really expect anything for DK, or Persona (despite them saying they had plans so I guess maybe more ports besides scramble?) I want Diamond and Pearl remakes but I'm not sure if I trust gamefreak enough to believe they would actually be good anymore and to finish with the blue hedgehog I fully expect a new game announcement this year I have no idea what it'll be like or what to expect but a new game this year feels like a safe bet.

That truly is a lot of anniversaries. They could indeed translate into something quite big.

Pokemon will do something for sure. We do know New Pokemon Snap is coming, but that will be just the tip of the iceberg. The remakes seem the most feasible option, and I hope they won't just stop it there.

I'd like to see something done for Sonic and for DOA. I wish they could port Sonic Adventure 2 just like they did years ago for PS3 and Xbox 360, it's one of the best and most well known games of its franchise. As for DOA, with the rather recent release of DOA 6, I don't think they'll do much more than special DLC or a DLC-included physical release to commemorate the date.

And well, we got Persona 5 for the franchise's 20th anniversary and it was an awesome hit, so I guess we can let them celebrate the 25th anniversary in a more humble way now that they've given us Royal and Strikers. But hey, if there are any ports of old entries, I'm also open to hearing about them.

It's also the 25th anniversary of Super Mario RPG. Which is arguably small compared to the series listed here, but its cult following continues to grow.

There's far more important anniversaries this year than I ever imagined, I better keep track of them.

I just noticed that in September Nintendo renewed their trademarks for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Maybe this could imply that we'll in fact be getting another pair of Let's Go remakes.

Donkey Kong is really that old? Wow.

Seeing how Nintendo did a Battle Royale with Super Mario Bros 35th anniversary last year (Super Mario 35), I'd love to see them do some sort of Battle Royale with the Legend of Zelda. Really hoping for that. Heck, they could maybe partner up with SEGA and do one for Sonic as well. What they did with Mario and the recent Tetris and Pac-Man 99, I'm loving that stuff.

I really want to do another Pokemon stream with Djinn and Foxyman. We did one for the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, would be so much fun to do one for the 25th. We did GBA Pokemon games last time. Perhaps we could do DS games this time.

Microsoft is usually good about doing something special with the various Halo anniversaries. I'm sure we'll get some amazing fan service for the 20th anniversary of Halo.

That's a mindblowing amount of anniversaries especially considering that 2021 is an odd-numbered year

pennylessz : I was one of the people who (really late) realized how awesome Super Mario RPG is! That game led to so many neat RPGs with goofy Mario antics.

Pacman+Mariofan : It's a huge shame that not many ROM hacks were made of it. Happy Shell was developed, then barely anyone seized the opportunity.

pennylessz : I actually had no idea any ROM hacks were made of Super Mario RPG at all. I suppose it's much more difficult to make ROM hacks of RPG's than platformers.

Davideo7 : If that happens at some point I'd definitely watch I think I either missed the 20th Anniversary stream entirely or was only there for a few minutes I can't really remember I remember commenting while you were streaming once to ask about something related to mc way back then but I honestly have no clue what stream it would of been on.

Also now that more times passed this year I got to say some of these anniversaries haven't really impressed me so far at least. Sonic for example really disappoints me as someone who hated Colors when it came out and never have enjoyed replaying it Colors Ultimate doesn't really appeal to me and while Sonic being in Minecraft is cool it's kind of meh to me. I know we got Strikers this year but I thought someone at Atlus said something big was coming for Persona this year so I assumed 5 would get ported or something but unless I'm missing something I think Strikers is all we've gotten so far but who knows Golden came out of no where last year so they could tomorrow be like lol here's Royal on all platforms.

SonicOlmstead : Just wait, they're gonna keep putting more and more characters into Minecraft because it's just that popular XD But yeah, not all of these anniversaries will be some high-budget, mind-blowing tribute sort of thing, sadly.

It's September which means it's time for Atlus' 7 Persona anniversary projects to be announced. Sonic and I did a lot of discussion on this topic and there's a bunch of stuff that I'm hoping to see announced including Persona 6, Persona 4 Golden on Switch, Persona 1/2/3 remakes, and possibly a Persona 5 Arena.

zanderlex : I don't know if you saw the video yet but that was uh something I would say I'm disappointed but to be honest the concerts are always great and they have announced games at the concerts before so I won't lose hope the fact it's in late November and the next video by Morgana is in December gives me hope we can get some switch ports cause smt5 will have already came out by then but I'm most upset about having to wait till November/December for news when we already had to wait months to get to this day.
