Do you prefer to use your switch handheld or in the dock?

There are two ways to play with the Nintendo Switch - you can use it as a handheld console, or you can put it in the dock and play on your TV. Which is your preferred way to play?

I definitely prefer to play on the TV. I have pretty terrible eyesight, so when I try to play on the Switch screen it's hard for me to see sometimes. I also prefer to use a controller (whether it be a GameCube controller for smash, or the two Joy Cons in the controller thing) than to use the Joy Cons connected to the console.

tgags123 : well, the 3rd thing is "Tabletop mode" where you set it on a table and basically use your Switch console like a miniature TV while you use both Joy Cons in your hands.

I usually have my Nintendo Switch on the dock and play it on my television, I feel a lot of conformable this way, especially playing Super Smash Bros, and especially when playing online, but sometimes, I play as handheld or Table Top whenever I go anywhere.

I prefef playing it in handheld mode. I much prfer just lying in bed and just holding it up and playing instead of having to plug everything in and worry about my headset and attaching the controller and stuff. I'll usually play on TV for a game with great graphics.

I prefer to use it in handheld mode. I think part of the reason is because I've gotten so used to playing handheld systems throughout my life. I do play it in docked mode sometimes, especially when I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, that game does not look good in handheld mode.

I like playing mine handheld. It's nice and comfortable and it makes for an intimate playing experience. I can also play it in my bedroom that way and I can switch (no pun intended) between my 3DS and my Switch as much as I want without a hassle.

I prefer to play my games docked, but I do enjoy playing them handheld more. I just don't have many opportunities or reason to play it in handheld mode nowadays now that I take online classes so I'm basically stuck at home all day.

I guess in my hands most of the time. Unless I'm playing Mario Kart, Smash with my GameCube controller and adapter, or with friends, it's usually not docked when I am actually playing it (which is rarely ever)

I usually play the majority of my games in handheld mode with the exception of Smash Ultimate. For Smash, I like to put it in the dock and play it on my TV using a gamecube controller. I've never tried playing Smash while in handheld mode, but I'd imagine it would be drastically different and more difficult than what I'm used to.

SacredShadow : I played Smash in handheld mode for a little bit when I first got my Switch. It was pretty awful lol. It was really hard to see what was going on, but that could just be my terrible eyesight. It also just felt really weird, since I also usually use a GameCube controller for Smash. I didn't do very well lol. I would not recommend it.

I thought I'd play mostly docked, but find myself playing a lot of hand held. I find being able to play it on the go is a lot more convenient that expected.

"Big" games, like BotW and Smash I play docked mostly, but other ones like Octopath Traveler and Stardew Valley I played a lot in Hand Held.

Even Smash I play with a stand on the pro controller when I'm travelling.

Honestly, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm in the mood to sit down for a few hours and play, and sometimes I just want to play on the go or just away from my TV in a more comfortable place. The Switch is special because it satisfies both niches. I'm honestly kind of surprised nobody tried this idea before, although I'm not sure how well it would have worked with even last-generation tech.

I mostly play handheld, but every once in a while, I like to put the dock in and play on the TV screen. Sometimes, it's because the battery gets low, but I want to keep playing. Sometimes, it's because I'm at a certain point in the game that I feel deserves to be played on the big screen at least once. Other times, I simply want to play on the big screen instead of the small screen.

I personally thought I was going to play it more in hand held mode considering I don't have a fancy TV to hook it up to with an HDMI cable, but slowly realized just how small the screen was. I was getting semi-frustrated with how bad my eyesight was with trying to look at things so tiny, that I was to the point where I'm saving money for a small TV, Since I don't need anything overly big.

Then I had the realization

My computer is hooked up to my monitor though and HDMI cable, why not just use my monitor as like, a mini TV screen? It's a pretty perfect distance from my bed, and its been working out really well. Only thing that sucks about it since having to hook back up my computer when I want to use it, but it ain't all that bad. I like it a lot better this way then the tiny screen.

I prefer to use it docked and play with my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, if at all. I hardly play the damned thing at all, given I scorn the system's iconic titles (i.e., Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle). Hell, the only game I really play on there is Sonic Mania Plus!
