How exactly do you define "tabbing", and why do you think it should be against the rules in competition? I feel like the "no tabbing" rule is currently entirely too vague and that we need to define that term before we can effectively and consistently prohibit hit.

The more asnwers, the better. We need feedback, y'all.

I guess this is what it is...
- Opening a ton of tabs on your browser.
- Then composing a ton of posts in each tab.
- Then mass submit each one before the TDV restarts the next day in order to steal most words or most posts per day jerseys.

I don't think it is cheating it is more of a tactic to defeat others by outsmarting the system and giving folks the impression they are in the lead until the last minute.

I can tab all I want and Vizzed would never know. Just don't submit them all at once or near end of day or they will catch you!

I should try submitting a big spammy post at 10.59 tomorrow and steal the yellow jersey. Then edit the post a minute after I am given the jersey. I wonder if anyone would notice?

All of this could have been prevented if David had put time limits on # of posts one could make in certain amount of time.

JigSaw : We'd notice. We check most posts with huge wordcount because we've had people copy and past literal pages of content to cheat the Viz system.

That's a good idea, though. Having a short cool down period for posts. If we have it for almost every other action, it definitely makes sense to have it for posts.

I think it's less of having a bunch of tabs open and more of pre writing a bunch of replies. Like you write out a bunch if replies throughout the day or even days in advance in a document and then you post them all at once.

I agree with zander and Jiggy: It's not having a bunch of tabs open at once (which I do all the time and almost every time I post), and prepping a large number of posts and submitting them all at once (which was a common tactic in the last hour of the old green jersey at the beginning of the TdVs).

I think having multiple tabs open is fine. I mean, the reason I do it is beacuse the site runs like worse than a constipating crap for me (horrible pun and metaphor, but you get it). But what I am not okay with is when you have a ton of posts ready to go, and then submit them all in the span of a few minutes.

I see tabbing as opening up multiple tabs, and submitting replies through all of those tabs at once. It's an easy way to mislead people and to rack up post numbers quickly.

To me, tabbing is having multiple tabs open where you type replies, and then submitting them all in a short period of time.

To be honest, I'm not sure why this isn't allowed in the TdV. It made sense to ban it back when the green jersey was about how many 30+ word posts you can make in an hour, since you could spend more than an hour making those posts. But with that category gone, I think the rule can go too. It doesn't give you that much of an advantage for blue, because you can only have so many tabs open. Sure it would allow you to make a bunch of posts late, but you still need to type those posts sometime during the day.

I don't see how it's any different than zanderlex submitting a late review last night to take the lead for red.

thing1 : I think I might misunderstand what you're saying. You mean you have more of an issue with the posts all being spaced out in their posting than all at once, regardless of whether or not they were prepped and stocked back?

m0ssb3rg935 : bad formatting on my part, sorry.

No, I don't have a problem with multiple tabs open at once. I have a problem with a ton of posts being submitted in a very short period of time thanks to those pre-made posts.

Now that the old green jersey is gone, there really isn't much point for tabbing, so it shouldn't be an issue.

You could store up a bunch of posts to use all in one day, but there really isn't a point for that and the time needed for that to have any kind of pay off would just be ridiculous.

Cool down periods are just a bad idea for pretty much anything. If someone is going to spam stuff, either posts or like screenshot ratings, a 2 second (or longer for posts) really isn't going to stop them all too much. Sometimes you can just get through posts pretty quickly, and there really shouldn't be any punishment for that. It's not like all posts take a huge amount of careful consideration (example-pizza time)

As tgags has stated, tabbing is typing up replies and posts in multiple tabs and submitting them within a short window of time.

I can see how this might've been a problem with the way the old green jersey worked, but it doesn't really give you that much of an edge in current competitions since you still have to spend a considerable amount of time typing up the replies. I really only think tabbing would be useful for static threads like "PC or Console gaming" for example. This is a type of thread that would normally require one answer from the person responding and is unaffected by the replies of other users that replied previously. Here you are free to type and post your response at any time without worry of it becoming irrelevant

Tabbing isn't really helpful with threads that actively change throughout the day and are influenced by the replies of other users like "Corrupt a Wish" or "Would you rather". The post a person makes in these threads are directly influenced by those made before. In the time it takes to write up a reply and hold the post for later, 10 different people could reply to the thread with different answers and your tabbed post loses all relevance. Since threads like this are common among the Crazy House and Polls and Questions, which are very popular during TDV, tabbing doesn't really give you that much of an advantage, especially with the way the jerseys currently work. In the time it takes you to type up and save responses in bulk for later, you are vulnerable the entire time since your competitors are freely posting, so overall, there is very little payoff to using this technique. Even if you made and saved responses over a period of fays, you would still be missing out on precious points on the days you don't make all those posts held in reserve.

tabbing is one of the best ways to jump ahead in blue or yellow at the very end of the day!

Of course you can see if someone did it based on word count and post frequency but it still shouldn't be against the rules. We already have a rule in place to stop people from posting too much in the final hour that I don't see the point in making it any more strict.

If someone needs to win a jersey so badly during the TdV that they write a bunch of posts in separate tabs and then post them all within moments of each other to earn an extra point then by all means let them. It's just a game.
