My mom informed me today that my grandma is getting me a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, and she asked me what games I might want. Other than the obvious Smash Bros Ultimate, what games do you guys recommend?

Obviously Let's Go Eevee. Mario Rabbids, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Zelda.

zanderlex : Was definitely thinking about Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and one of the Pokemon games. What makes Let's Go Eevee better than Let's Go Pikachu? Is there any substantial difference? I'll probably go for Eevee because, well, *points at profile pic and layout*. But I'd like to know if there's any actual reason to choose one over the other.

With the link to Pokemon Go, you can pretty easily add any missing version exclusives.

The biggest difference is seriously just which pokemon appears in cutscenes. You can't evolve either one anyways.

Like zander, I'd recommend Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom battle is a very solid game, but the previous 3 I mentioned are absolute must haves for the system. Bayonetta 2's another game I'd recommend if you're wanting to get an M rated game for the switch in the future.

(Btw, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on the Let's Go games unless you want the most bare-boned entries to the series. I know I won't ever be getting them.)

Depending on your preferences, I'd definitely recommend Xenoblade Chronicles 2 if you like action RPGs, Breath of the Wild is a great adventure that you can easily sink a couple hundred hours into, and Puyo Puyo Tetris is fun if you're a fan of those classic games. Octopath Traveler is also a must have if you love the classic 16 and 32 bit RPGs.

The rest I would recommend depend on whether or not you already own it on another platform and would buy it again for the sake of portability. Enter the Gungeon is definitely worth it if you like top-down shooters, and Skyrim is of course on Switch.

As others have said, Mario+Rabbids is a very good game. Despite there being rabbids.

I also would recocomend odyssey, it’s a very good game that I think you’d like.

Also, Eevee is better than Pikachu bc eevee is adorable.

Xenoblade and Mario + Rabbids are two games I haven't looked into much, but I'll definitely check them out!

Other than that, no difference. Plus you can pick a 2nd Pokemon to follow you anyway so you can have both.

If you want an honest review of Let's Go, I wasn't looking forward to it, but picked it up anyways, out of a fandom for the series, and a desire to see if core gameplay could be improved. The result is a mixed bag. Catching pokemon feels really cool, and so does the whole no random battles thing.

The problem is, that for all those pluses, the game is literally a cake walk. I broke the game with Pikachu by itself, basically, I trucked through the end of the game using exactly one pokemon, and none of the trainer battles were in the slightest bit difficult. Not that Pokemon is hard, but it shouldn't be this super baby mode easy.

Kanto is kind of boring, but this is definitely the most beautiful version of it. The mechanics itself are worthy, but there's too much of a drag for me to recommend it at the price of 60 bucks.

My own recommendations are Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Octopath Traveler, Mario+Rabbids, Breath of the Wild, and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition.

There are some other good games on the console, but I don't feel any of them are particularly must-own.

Splatoon 2: Really fun, fast, messy game. Extremely intuitive, in true Nintendo fashion.

Octopath Traveller: If you like old JRPG's from the SNES era, this is a must. The story is not perfect, but the gameplay and art are top notch.
