It's been several months since I last made a thread, and several several since I last made a gaming thread. How have you been vizzians? I've been great ), and I miss painting the board green again!

Anyway, last december (i dont remember when exactly so im not sure), we got confirmation from o ur Eiji Aonuma that the next Zelda title is already in development, and works for any more DLC for BOTW have ended. I forgot whether he said it's on the switch or 3ds, but this is exciting if it's a new core game. I wonder, will it take many years of development just like BOTW took? Nintendo was very ambitious on making BOTW the best Zelda game ever created, and they did succeed on doing that considering it's the best selling zelda title ever (at least the 2nd best since im not sure if its sales surpassed oot's).
So if they want to make a really good one, then I'm afraid not before at least 2020 we will get to see it (unless if it will be just a new 3DS one that wont take too much time to make, like ALBW and TH). I don't even know if they will reveal it in this year's E3, but hopefully it will be a good one. I would love if the story would take place in the child timeline or before the split of timelines, but now what matters to me more is a well written story of the game along with nice characters and gameplay .

What do you think? (i havent seen in this forum an already existing thread for this. if there is one please close this one)

I'm very much looking forward to the new title, though I'll be somewhat disappointed if it's on the 3DS instead of the Switch. Breath of the Wild is a masterpiece in my opinion, and it was a new and interesting direction for the series and I hope they do more in that style, but I'm really hoping it's not the only style they're going to be working with and I hope they're not retiring the old formula. I would love another Zelda game in the style of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess and I've heard that they're currently hiring dungeon designers, so that might be a sign that they're actually making a game with the old formula.

If the new zelda game ends up on 3DS, I hope it is based off Wind Waker!

m0ssb3rg935 : as for me i would be fine if it was a 3ds one, considering the last time we got a zelda 3ds game was in 2015, so a new one for the 3ds later this year wont be too surprising. I'm fine with both, and I would LOOOOVE IT if they being back the old way to play Zelda!! I don't think they abandonned it, certainly not. Maybe the next one will contain a mix between the new changes of botw and classical stuff?

vizzy900 : I love the Wind Waker!! Although I highly doubt they'll announce another remake of it for the 3ds, since the HD remake came out 5 years ago which isnt too old. A good surprise awaits us next month!

A mix of both would be perfect. I like the variety in weapons but I also like having one I can default to that won't break, so maybe leaving the ability to use enemies' weapons without having to wait on the Master Sword to recharge would be cool. And I think they could reintroduce a little bit of the linearity without stripping away Breath of the Wild's massive overworld so you get the beautiful and varied environment of open world paired with the sense of progression you get with a more linear game. As far as dungeon design goes, I felt like the Divine Beasts and Shrines were entirely too short even if there are so many of them. Having those kinds of puzzle in much bigger, longer temples and dungeons would be great.

Well we can't say they succeeded in making the best Zelda game ever just because it sold the most copies. Unfortunately sales are not always indicative of quality, as great games have many times went unnoticed, and mediocre games have often topped sales charts.

That said, while I have never played BOTW, I have seen playthroughs of it, and I found it quite disappointing personally, but I've stated my reasoning for that so many times that it would be redundant to list them all again. Suffice to say I feel that many of the titles before it deserved that spot on the list more.

As for a new Zelda game though, I hadn't heard of it before now, but I wouldn't expect another Zelda game for the Switch ever unless Nintendo has changed policy, as Reggie himself said that they make it a point to have one entry from every one of their main series on each system. If they don't change that rule, then BOTW is the only Switch Zelda we'll see, and it's entirely possible, if not probable, that this new Zelda will be on the Switch's successor. Besides, if they plan to make a full sized original title, it'll take them at least a few years, and Nintendo seems intent on sticking with five year system cycles, so I'd expect this game to be a launch title for the next Nintendo system, and I'd guess that the title and system will launch in 2022. Just speculation of course.

On a side note, I halfway suspect the 3DS to be retired in a few years, and no successor to follow. I don't follow Nintendo news though, so that could be way off.

You know, I don't really see a new Zelda game being released anytime soon due to the fact of the sure popularity that Breath of the Wild has performed in 1 1/2 years, and I don't think that Nintendo will make another big Zelda title for a while, and continue adding DLC content to Breath of the Wild.

Personally, if Nintendo is planning on making a Zelda game, it probably would be a remake of a previous game or a side game, because Breath of the Wild is way too popular today for a new game to be released.

Ok, my guess of the next Zelda title, it probably would be sometime around 2020 at earliest, or 2024 at late, and knowing Nintendo, they probally will end up delaying the new Zelda title like 50 million times like they did with Breath of the Wild which was supposed to be released in 2014, then delayed to 2015, then delayed to 2016, and then finally delayed it to March 3rd, 2017 when it was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch.

Eirinn : I'm not sure if Nintendo is even going to announce a handheld successor, because since the Nintendo Switch is a console & handheld hybrid, and especially the Pokemon franchise's core games going to be on the Switch, and those games are one of the reason why Nintendo kept going with handhelds.
