The game isn't particularly hard, but if you want the best ending, it really cuts down on the time spent farming coins.

Pro tip: pause the game and press select precisely 16 times. You will get a blinking box on the numbers at the bottom of the screen. Hold A and press left or right to change the number you select, and press up or down to change the value.

This came out right at the end of the NES's life. It had all the best components and really showcased what the console could do, both graphically and otherwise.

Wow. I thought the first mario party hated me. So many bogus bowser spaces and battle mini games where nobody else can pay up. But they sure have enough coins when they go by boo to steal my stars.

GRR this game is hard. I've had this game for probably 17 years and I still can't beat it. I got to the level where you go down on the rope and the boss at the bottom finished me off.

If you pause the game and press "select" 16 times, you can change the amount of lives, coins, hearts, and time you have. The kind of castle you get at the end of the game is dependent on how many coins you have.

Glover: What went wrong?
Ah, Glover. I remember being really excited about getting this game. It looked like another great platformer for the N64. And I gotta say, all the pieces are there, but for some reason, it just didn't click with me.

The visuals are great. Environments are varied. Bright colors abound. There's plenty of artistic detail. That being said, there tended to be more open space compared to, say, Super Mario 64. Perhaps this had to do with the controls and movement physics. Speaking of which...

The controls are interesting, and I really love the concept. I like how the glove and the ball are separate entities. I like how the ball could be manipulated. I like how each of the ball's forms had different properties, and that the game took advantage of this. However, controls could be tricky and finicky. It's not always easy to make the game recognize certain commands, because they share the same buttons as other commands. Things like momentum and bouncing could easily become a tedious chore to manage instead of a fun challenge to overcome.

Music and SFX were good, but not particularly memorable.

The story is a pretty basic excuse plot. It's not really a factor.

The game is difficult, but this stems mostly from the previously mentioned movement and physics quirks. The environments themselves aren't usually too bad, but half the time you are fighting the ball instead of using it. And that was a big turn-off.

I can't see myself ever seriously getting into the game. In the end, I think it was just ahead of it's time. The game was ambitious, and deserves an "A" for effort, but it's like the hardware couldn't handle what they wanted to do with the ball. If this had come out during the next console generation, the smoother controls would have likely made this work better.
Gun-Nac

Gun-Nac, an obscure gem
Gun-Nac is a classic bullet hell game that somehow flew under the radar.

The visuals are crisp and vibrant. Everything is so colorful and detailed. However, one must be careful not to lose oneself amidst all the screen clutter. The screen can be so full of different things that it is difficult to keep track of where you are. The game has a very distinct Japanese theme.

The sound is good, but I didn't find most of the music to be particularly memorable. The shop music, however, will be stuck in your head for years to come.

The game is very difficult, keeping in line with the bullet hell genre. It will not only test your skills, but also your endurance, as levels are quite long.

Game play itself is simple; just move and shoot. However, many things have to be kept in mind. First and foremost, do not lose track of your ship. It may sound simple, and if it does, you are in for a rude awakening. Which power-ups you pick up are also important. Picking up the same type of weapon (indicated by the numbered tiles) will increase it's power. Picking up a new weapon type (often by accident) could mean being stuck with an inferior or awkward weapon, and possible even de-power it all together. The letter tiles indicate different types of bombs, though I find which type of bomb you use to be slightly less important. Money you pick up can be used at the end of level shop, where you can buy upgrades. Dying resets your upgrades.

The plot is basically just an excuse plot, and as such, pretty inconsequential.

I would most definitely recommend this game.
