I listen to all styles of music, so I tend to divide it up. If you ask me which one is my favorite, I can't answer because you can't compare two totally different styles.

Heavy Metal: Demon Hunter
Classic Metal: Megadeth
Hip Hop/Rap: Eminem
House: Daft Punk
Electronic: Deadmau5
Dubstep: Skrillex
Hard Rock: Disturbed
Pop: Usher
Alternative: Phil Keaggy

The Beatles. I love a TON of other music, but if I had to pick just one band, it'd be The Beatles. In my universe they're the best band of all time - BAR NONE!

I love all metal artists, yet my top 3 would have to be the 3 who influence my music the most. That's John Petrucci from Dream Theater, Synester Gates from Avenged Sevenfold, and Jari Maenpaa from Wintersun.

I would have to say The Beatles! They are easily the greatest band in the world and I never get tired of their music and I find it all very good. I love their stuff.

By favourite artist does it mean our favourite single person who does music? Or do actual bands count?

Ah heck, there was a favourite bands thread elsewhere. So, if I had to choose one person in the music industry that I had to pick as my favourite, would likely be Timo Tolkki of Stratovarius.

At least.... Pre-2004 Tolkki. After his nervous breakdown, nothing he made or wrote for his band was ever good. It was ostensibly good, but there was such a... Soul to his previous work. There was a message he was getting across, and so much passion was put into every song he made. After the breakdown, though, it was all just good-sounding shlock. =(

Well, I'd have to really choose between Timo Tolkki or Magnus Palsson, aka Souleye.
Anyone who's played the indie game VVVVVV knows exactly who I'm talking about.
For a quick sample of his stuff, try;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18pqyuWqtb8
I'm a huge sucker for chiptune music, and especially Commodore 64 chiptunes. This guy can work sheer and utter magic with such a limited sound spectrum...
That, and he's just all around a nice guy.

For me it would have to be a tie between Bruno Mars, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. All three of them have done some pretty much 'just... wow' stuff.

Hm, I've got many...
But I think my all-time favourites are Die Ärzte and Die Toten Hosen. I grew up with their music and used to love it when I was about three or four years old, and I tried to sing the songs, even though I didn't understand the deeper meanings of them back then. xD And I still love these bands, they'll always be somehow part of my life.
But I also like Saltatio Mortis, Schandmaul, Simple Plan, Skillet, Nightwish (the older songs with Tarja), and Lordi.
