The only viable option at this time is to just modify the current chat, what if you waste $300 on a new chat and septembern hacks that as well Then you'll end up taking that one down and looking for a new one.

Not sure you can expect people to pay for that though when someone can easily just chat else where for free. Donating for games is understandable but for a chatroom? I don't think so and I even doubt any of the chatters will donate. I think the chat has got too much attention lately, its a big hassle, and probably distracts people from posting. I'm sure some staff are happy now that they don't have to deal with daily reports in there

Another option is to just use the chat you made. That is just me though, you got more important features that need implementing such as new updated support for the RGR, mac support, multiplayer etc... I'd much rather you use that $300 on one of those.

I ventured into chat today, not a fan. At all.

I liked the old chat (pre pro chat rooms)

It may have had no moderation options, but it got us by, and it was fun. I liked prochatrooms a little (till I found out how easy it was to exploit).

Part of the problem with new chat is that it is just bleh, 300 dollars on that? It'd be more cost effective to do IRC It may be hectic, but 300 dollars for a chat is ridiculous.

As for distracting from posting JigSaw, I have this to say, after chatting with some users, the chat room is the entire reason they do post.

I myself post, because I'm tired of chat, and without chat, I probably would stick solely to the RGR. There's not many ways to make people want to post more, since some people just don't like posting (I myself, find it to be tedious after 2000 posts.)

Anyway, I don't know about this new chat, but hey, do what you gotta do.

I would donate but to be honest, I can't afford to help out. I need to use my money on necessities and things that need to be paid. But I hope it goes well for you.

To be honest, I do not like it at all, I cant donate anyways, but the chat room is not very good anyways. If there is a better chat room, I might be excited but I hate this one.

New Idea:

The entire reason the chat rooms were easy to exploit was because all you had to know was someone's user number an their username to log on as them. However, what if you made people's usernames replaced with a long line of numbers and letters? For example, instead of the URL being like "id=71642name=the_casualty" (or whatever it is) it could be "id=71642name=iohdksdh836h".

I don't know how easy or hard that would be to implement but it's an idea at least.

If you're really set on getting this chat room, I'll donate $50 or so.

legacyme3 : No way we're using the old chat room, the lack of mod powers causes to much drama. Did you dive into that chat room I posted? A ton of nice features including the ability to be in more than 1 chat room, private conversations can involve more than 1 person, you can listen to play lists that others have made while chatting or upload your own music to make your own playlist, etc.

Yeah, I dived into it for a few hours this afternoon. It's not entirely bad, but somethings I did notice.

1. A swear filter NEEDS to be implemented as soon as you acquire it.
2. You need to force users to use their own names. I had someone (pikamander64) come in and made themself legacyme3. I'm not a fan of that.
3. I wouldn't call it needed, because anyone can fix it themself, but you should auto set the noises off, it was annoying as all hell until I found it.
4. Whispers can be seen by EVERYONE in chat, so that's a definite fix.

It seems pretty solid to me, but I don't know if it is worth 300 bucks...

That said, if I can donate, I will, because I do want to have people come online. And I do spend a lot of time on site =P

My biggest qualm with the chat is it's strangeness (at first I didn't really like the other chat that much, so I have a feeling I'd grow to like it), but it feels very different to me.

On the issue of the old chat room though, I'll argue it goes both way and that drama is unavoidable. Just like the lack of power can make people go wild, the presence of power can make people go nuts as well. Personally, I'd reccomend that if we go forward with this chatroom, that we designate a chat mod to watch the other mods in chat. Far too easily the functions can be abused.

Do you want me to see if there's any possible way to hack into it? That's my main concern with any chatroom we get. The last one was too easily hacked, I don't think this one will be a problem, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

legacyme3 : 1 2 and 3 are reponses to 1 2 and 3. Well you can't really try and hack it on that site since that site allows guests to chat.

Davideo7 : Do you think that we should hyper link (or whatever it's called) the Demo chat to replace the regular chat for now? Or is it best left untouched till its replaced? Just so it keeps the activity flowing for the time being.

I know you're not as active so you probably won't read this, but I'll post anyway. Making a PayPal account is free. Also, you don't actually need a credit card. The American Express gift cards can operate as credit cards on PayPal. I've used them for Ebay. You could just buy one of those cards and connect it (as a credit card) to PayPal to donate.
