OK then to all of you thinking it depends on the kid,the game will always influence his ideas.This explains why so many little kids have perverted minds.....Its absolutely wrong to play those games at that age.Its not about the fact that they wont shoot with guns when they grow up the problem is in whats going on with their minds and their childhood THEY ARE LOOSING IT!and thats the important part,parents should think deeper and not only them but even the stores too.....

Stores shouldn't even be put in the picture. They stock those games for the purpose of selling them. It's the parents that should have the entire responsibility. If we are gonna put the blame on stores, let's just blame everyone. >__>

im a kid and ive never played COD or medal of honor or anything like that but its pretty brutal there treating war like its a game it isnt

It certainly depends on the maturity of the kid. I know multiple people who played games like GTA when they were younger. They aren't messed up. People put WAY to much belief in the influence of video games over children. There are much worse things that you can do to your kids than let them play violent games. If they don't like it, they don't have to play. Kids aren't innocent. They can wrap there heads around much more. We have a human being nailed to a cross hanging in our living rooms but nobody thinks to blame the crucifix. Video games are an easy scapegoat.

It is absolutely a bad thing. I didn't even know what Grand Theft Auto was until I was at least 13 or 14 and I still have never played it. Kids shouldn't be playing games that are as bloody and violent as those. Twilight Princess should be the absolute worst game they get to play.

You said this kid was nine? NINE!? WTF that's way too young for any ONE of those games, let alone ALL of those games! Just what is that kid learning anyways????

This is why teenagers swear constantly and have such a lack of morality. Those kinds of games seem to build such bad habits either by the actions performed by the characters or performed by the online communities...

It's not like there aren't thousands of other games they could be playing that are much more appropriate and probably more fun, anyway. So just don't take a chance no matter what kind of kid it is. I'm a teenager and I live just fine without those games...

Thats not how i feel but no one is gonna say a rated E game is superior to say Modern Warfare and the like
kids will cry and beg to get the newest game and with the industry moving more towards an older crowd these kids will know nothing more than Necromorphs and Headshots

kyuremu : That is because the only "good" games nowadays are FPS according to "professional reviewers" and the only good FPS are those that are realistic, have good graphics (gore mai boy) and has good online...and apparently only M games can ever have "good online"... or the only other "good games" that these "reviewers" ever say is good are those one hit wonder in the 1980s (Mario...GTA) but the "cool kids" think these are "childish".

Also, the FPS games gain a lot of attention (Other kids, ads and how it is like the only games on the "test" console thing, like what you see outside a store where you can play a 360 for awhile) which makes kids WANNNNNNNNNNT THEM bad (this is the same as 1980s so don't complain about how your childhood or how Nintendo is doing better or those stupid stuff).


Most parents nowadays are lazy too, leading to them no wanting to handle the child when he screams and whine (XBOX LIVE ) about wanting Halo Reach or COD or something. So they just let the children have the game...and not even care if it's good for them or not, because they think the game is something like Mario or their time (which would be weird, as there are pron games back then) ...or they simply don't play games.

BNuge : Strange, GTA is not very violent to me, it is just all the crime that goes on in that game (and in 4...the strip club), Bio-shock is more violent but (the good ending) has a very good moral/meaning .

Firestar : More of the online communities, unless the chartcaher is a badass gangsta..which is rare (The main guy from GTA IV, although it criminal, it not evil according to his personality) . Most teens who are like that may play something like HALO or COD and I know that in both these games, the main guy is actually a good guy (not so sure in COD, but I think I remember seeing you are fighting for good in that game, killing nazis in coD 4).


This is a long reply and I hope it is read, otherwise you be reading the same "IT IS DEPENDING ON THE KIIID " or "THE PARENTS SUX " from others .

I think kids [who obviously don't learn to go around shooting people] need to be AT LEAST 13 before playing M-rated games. Before then, it's inappropriate for them and annoying to everyone else to hear a mic-spamming 10 year old: "HOW WE LOSE!? I USE MY RIFLE AND EVERYTHING!"

I really don't think 9 year olds should be allowed to play those games. Heck when I was 9, I wouldn't want to play those games because I wouldn't understand the mature plot or characters. To be honest, I still don't want to play those games. FPSes bore me to tears. Just shoot at everything in sight? Yawn.

I've played and watched A LOT of T and M rated shows and games. as early as 5 years old. I still even today do not swear out in the public, I find it rather disrespectful. And my parents didn't even teach me that. They saw a game I liked, they gave me it. No lectures or anything. I wanted to watch something on TV? They said nothing, despite what was on the screen.

I think it depends on the parents to determine what games the kid plays.   My parents are real good about that.   They don't let me play video games with sex, really bad language, or any other adult stuff.   I'm only allowed to play games that were M-rated for violence.   And if I was a parent, I wouldn't let my kid play most T-rated and any M-rated games like Grand Theft Auto or any Call of duty games until he/she can do anything they want to.   I wouldn't even let my kids find out about the games.

It really depends on if the kid is smart enough not to start running around, hijacking cars, and killing random people, or cursing. I wouldn't let a 9 year old play GTA, but CoD, I would. GTA has like sexual themes, and is a little bit worse.

I don't think it's right because a lot of kids below 10 tend to copy things they see on T.V and Video Games.

Definitely depends on the kid. If they're smart, they'll be able to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. =| Hopefully a child won't start trying to hotwiring cars or punch people while walking down the street. To be fair, however, I still don't think I'd let my child play something like Grand Theft Auto until I felt like they could handle it. 

There's games way worse than GTA 3 and beyond, and I'm not going to count the... How should I put it... Sex oriented games all about sex. Fallout: New Vegas is going to be one example. You can do tons of things to women in that game as long as it involves something violent, in most cases. You can go on entire killing sprees without being chased by actual police. You can shoot body parts off a corpse. You can hurt the children, even if they don't die.

I think the only reason games like the Fallout series get a pass here is because it isn't set in modern times. It's a series about life after a nuclear war, to put it in basic words. It still isn't any better than GTA 3 and beyond in the way it does things once Bethesda bought the rights to the series.

Heck, Oblivion isn't any better. Want to beat up helpless homeless guys? Go ahead, the game allows that. Like to set authority figures on fire? Probably in there.

Maybe I just am missing the point. GTA at least has some punishment, as far as my not yet completely informed knowledge can tell. Kids won't notice it if they are just messing around, but it is still there. Heck, you could steal things quite often in Pokemon. How many people can say they found some item in a person's house in a Pokemon game?

The only reason kids even care about these kinds of games is because they look rebellious. Why else would someone bother with the movie Bebe's Kids when it was new? It looked rebellious. Kids like to rebel. I find rebellious enjoyment in wearing shirts my dad doesn't want seen in public in public.
