EDIT: You can still use the RGR Plugin by using an older internet browser which supports it. Firefox 42 supports it so here's a link to download a Portable version of Firefox that doesn't have to be installed:
Download Firefox Portable 42
Be sure to click the 'Allow' button at the top and reload page afterward! Also be sure not to update it. I also recommend you only use it for Vizzed and no other site.

The RGR Plugin use to rely on NPAPI to play in the web browser but eventually NPAPI was discontinued by all internet browsers so that's why we started using Flash technology with the RGR Plugin. The Plugin still supports NPAPI though and if someone were to use an older outdated internet browser, they could still use the RGR Plugin. This is the only work around that I have until a better solution is found. More information on NPAPI and the browser versions that support it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPAPI#Support/deprecation

As of January 12, 2021, Adobe Flash has been discontinued in all web browsers. Since the RGR Plugin relies on Flash, the RGR Plugin no longer works.

Over the past few months, I've been upgrading and optimizing the RetroArch HTML5 emulator on Vizzed to be a good replacement. It works in the browser and requires nothing to be installed, works on mobile devices, supports controller and supports a lot of systems.

If you have save files from the RGR Plugin that you'd like to preserve or use with a standalone emulator, you can find all of your save files in this location of your computer:
CProgramData/Vizzed/VizzedRgrPlugin
Go into the folder that says 'User-' followed by your user id. In there, you'll see folders for each emulator and inside of those folders you'll find your save files.

The RGR Plugin could get updated to work without Flash but I haven't been able to find a solution nor do I currently have time to develop the skills and do this myself. This would require me to hire a developer and that is something I don't currently have the budget for. If I'm able to get people to help fund it, the RGR Plugin could make a return but for the time being, the RGR Plugin is sadly dead

Does the RetroArch Html5 emulator work for dreamcast? I've received some questions about it and not really been able to give an answer.

I also wanna pay respects to the plugin because with out the RGR I wouldn't be here or have met so many incredible and important people to me and I wouldn't be even close to who I am today without them so RIP RGR Plugin if it never returns it had a good run.

Davideo7 :

The RGR plugin brought so many retro gamers together. It allowed many to meet and collabrate with one another. The netplay were one of the many features that was great and allowed streamers and community play games together.

Things do change and with time sometimes things come to a end. I will have to look into this HTML5 and seee how well it performs as compared to RGR Plugin. For all the Vizzed members out there atleast we all still have a wonderful forum to go to. It still have a profile system to keep us all together. And allow us to stay connected with one another.

Meetings great people on here was one of the most exciting and amazing things about vizzed. it has helped me alot when i started streaming with retro games back in the day. I been a member since 6-20-2014. Alot of us done so much on here we have to stick together and stay strong. David you have done such a amazing job and provided so much for us here on vizzed and we thank you for everything you have done.

Davideo7 :

oh now I have a better understanding of why the RetroArch controls are they way they are, as they are also made for mobile gaming. Though I am irritated that I can't change the the controls so it could work best for me on desktop (the arrow keys for up and down are way too small, which is kind of a gaming nightmare for me

I never used the RGR plugin, though I am sorry to see it go

i just tried to run the flash object that starts the plugin i tried running in ruffle finding out the flash files run in action script 3 and ruffle can not run these files yet so if we could find something that emulates action script 3 without needing to install too many things to make it work in the browser so what i am saying what if we had something that could work that would be able to able to emulate good enough to run the plug-in but even if the plug-in were to come back i have got a new laptop for Christmas and because of that i can not install it anyways because my last computer was running windows 8.1 but now i am windows 10 my old laptop was getting old so i had to get a new one.
where would i be able to store any games i download because now my laptop is 237 gigabytes so i wouldn't be able to download it without an external hard rive to store it on.

I swear I remember a time where rgr did not use flash, back then a lot of things worked better. Netplay wasn't laggy to oblivion, could do non full screen without the screen displaying entirely black. This isn't a myth forged within the fogs of my mind is it?

Davideo7 : Guess that was gonna come sooner or later though, HTML5 may be a good replacement after all although it will need some adjustment as sometimes the settings are a bit hard to find as well as how to adjust button configuration when I checked it out, it was pretty difficult to know what button was adjusted to which input due to it not being labelled very well.

Aside from all that, well done on everything else David!

Just a question regarding Arcade Games that use a Touchscreen: how easy is it to use the HTML5 RetroArch of Vizzed to map a Lightgun to the Touchscreen of my Tablet? I mainly say Lightgun because it seems like the only way to make Bartop Arcade games' controls work is to map something to the Lightgun. There is no real traditional Touchscreen option.

TouchMaster97 : that would be nice if that could be possible considering I just tried using my smart phone on this site and tried to play rescue mission, the good news is the buttons work for the touch screen but I couldn't get very far, I'd kill to play rescue mission again

I'm wondering if they would have to get a crosshair formulated in as well

I'd speculated about a workaround like that, but I worry about the number of people who will actually bother to switch over to it.

Davideo7 : I can understand why the RGR plugin is still desirable and I have my reasons to back it up, basically when using the HTML5 plugin it tends to cause a little gameplay lag due to the FPS suddenly dropping and it's incredibly hard to adjust controls in the Emu settings because when I used it, it was difficult to get out of the tab without refreshing the page as it will then freeze when I pressed the escape button which admittedly is quite frustrating.

The RGR plugin didn't have those issues as it was easier to navigate and change your control settings, as well as how to close the option tab without freezing the session and having to refresh so one day, I do hope that it could be possible to have the RGR plugin return in a new way that could allow comfortable adjustments without any frustrating issues to deal with as mentioned before, till then.

OH, I was thinking the save files were stored on the site for some reason, nice to know they're local and I haven't lost my progress!

Sad times indeed for the RGR. Tt was actually a java player that I first used when I discovered this site, as I was weary of downloading any files at the time lol. I hope it doesn't cause a decrease in site traffic too much, especially with the boards picking back up and the Music Room being unmatched on the interwebz.

Hope to see the Plugin's return some day, though. It just feels better to play retro games here than your own emulator.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
