I want to start out by saying that different elements of this feature went live over the past few weeks/months. The feature is a couple months old now but I finally finalized it and now finally making a thread about it.
You'll notice a 'Page Details' box in the 'Information' column. It only appears on the right in browsers wide enough, otherwise you have to click the floating 'Info' box at the top right. It also only partially appears in threads (more on that at the end of this post). This 'Details' box gives full details about the page you're currently on.
Views
This section shows how many views the current page has. Keep in mind that the view counter has only been keeping track of views since the page you're currently on was migrated to the new site code and that migration could have taken place any time between 2015 and 2021 so it's not the most complete counter but relevant to the rest of the pages of the site, it's a good indication of how popular the page you're currently on is.
The views today shows how many views your current page has had since midnight.
The Unique Users view shows how many unique users have viewed your current page. This is super convenient for pages that you are admin of since it lets you see how many users have actually seen your content. If a user views the page more than once, this tally will only increase once for that user and never again for that user since it's only unique views for users.
Last User View
Pretty self explanatory. This shows you the last user to view the page you're currently on and the date/time that they viewed it. This gives the pages more life and also lets you know if users still use the current page that you're on.
Last Updated
Ok so this is probably the best feature in this details box. It gives you the date that the current page was last
updated and also tells you who
updated it.
Any time content gets added to a page, any time the page gets edited, this information is
updated. There are a few times when this might not be
updated but I'll expand this to include more actions in the future.
The best part about this is that when I edit a page's actual code, this data also gets
updated. So if I add a feature to a page, fix a bug, or pretty much add anything to the code, this info gets
updated.
Page Bookmarking
The hollow little star box lets you bookmark a page. When it is bookmarked, then the star will be filled in and can be clicked again to unbookmark the page. After you've bookmarked a page, your most recent bookmarks will appear in the 'Your Links and History' box which appears by default in your User Hud at the top left (User Hud doesn't appear in small displays). You can also access your bookmarks from the
Bookmarks page (you can also find a link to it from your profile page).
Speaking of the Bookmarks page, you can also embed the contents of someone's bookmarks to any page that you're an admin of and you can also pin the bookmarks to your User Hud by clicking the 'Pin to HUD' link in the 'Information' column. To add it to a page that you're an admin of, go to that page you want to add it to, click the 'Add Content' link toward the top of the page, and scroll down to 'Bookmarks' and add it. Be sure to edit the details afterward so that you can specify the user id of which bookmarks get displayed (in this case, probably your own user id).
Page Ratings
You can also rate just about any page of the site. The pages don't currently display their rating yet but you can keep track of your own ratings on the
Ratings page. Just like with the bookmarks, you can add this content to any page that you are an admin of and you can also add it to your user hud.
What pages am I an admin of?
Good question David. You're an admin of all of the following:
-Any page that someone has made you an admin of (remember, you can add someone as an admin to any page that you're an admin of from the 'Edit Page' link at the top of the page)
-Any thread that you've created
-Any forum that you rent
-Any
music playlist you've created
-Any game hack that you've created that has been submitted to the
RGR
-Any
game character you've submitted to the site
-Your own profile
-Any
Calendar you've created (currently an unfinished feature)
-Any
Album you've created
-Any
Image you've uploaded
-Any
Theme you've created
-The page of any
Screenshot you've uploaded
-More to come eventually
Thread Page Information
Since threads don't have the 'Information' column, and since Threads already have their own Rating and Bookmarking system, the contents are displayed a little differently.
When you go to a thread, you'll now see a 'Additional Thread Details' in the 'Thread Information' box toward the top of the thread's page.
Here you will be given some of the details that you see on all other pages, which includes:
-Total Views
-Views Today
-Unique User views
-Last User View (with username and date)
There's a lot of stuff here but it's also some very nice information for users to have access to, especially when it comes to your own pages. It's more satisfying to create content when you can see how much the content has been viewed. Users rarely leave comments on a page so this data is the next best thing.
