I don't frequent this particular forum that often, so I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I'm wondering how many of you have heard of the YouTube advertising fiascos (yes, plural) that began fairly recently.

Yeah, Google has broken YouTube by issuing a death sentence to a large percentage of channels run by fulltime YouTubers. It's being called admageddon. The first issue is that videos are being flagged as non-advertiser friendly, seemingly at random (more on that later), thus causing few, or even no ads at all to be played. This causes a massive drop in revenue for fulltime content creators (vlogs, cooking channels, gardening channels, educational channels, gaming channels, news channels, etc. No one is safe from it) meaning it's get the problem fixed or quit YouTube for them. This issue was brought up to YouTube via email by one of my favorite YouTubers recently, and after several failed attempts, she finally got a response.
What they claim to be doing is letting their new system scan videos automatically for things that they can pull up advertisements based off of. If they can't find any, the video is stripped of it's monetization.
Lesson - Make you videos advertisements, rather than only using relevant content.

The next issue however isn't as easily solved. It seems that even videos that are labeled as advertiser friendly aren't getting ads played regularly. One channel that is still listed as being fully monetizable has complained that only 4-5% of their views are getting ads according to YouTube analytics.
Lesson - Google breaks things.

So what are your thoughts on this? Well you know, besides "knew something like this was coming when Google bought YouTube out." because I kinda think we all did. lol Do you think they'll quit playing it off and fix it, or will it take the huge loss of content adding that will follow to get through to them that their new setup is broken?

Google is dense and self serving. Since they all but rule their portion of the Internet, they could care less about those of us that provide content. They're not going to get a clue until it starts hitting them where it really hurts: their income. And by that time, it may be too late for them.

I'm someone who tries not to and typically doesn't have ill will for people or groups, but I think something like this could be a good opportunity for someone to step up to the plate and bat for our team, so to speak. It's a market in desperate need of competition and I'd like to see some of the lesser known alternatives to YouTube take advantage of it.

I really haven't liked you tube since Google took over. I use it to post storm videos and stuff. But really the you tube police have gotten very picky. If somebody just flags your video cause they do not like it that is it your done. I have friends that are ceiling fan collectors. One of my friends got his videos removed cause somebody did not like the fans he was showing. They flagged him and Youtube removed his videos. To me that really needs to be fixed. Because the way it is now if somebody does not like your video all they have to do is flag and your video will be deleted.

Second Youtube has gotten very picky on copyright. If you post a song and give proper credit to the artists or whoever owns the right to the song. They will still delete it and treat it as piracy. This has happened to some of my friends as well.

Anyway I agree youtube is not like it used to be. It seriously needs to be fixed. The bad thing is I doubt they will change. Because they are one of the few places one can post videos for free. So since they are the only big player on the internet. I doubt they will fix things ugh

Youtube used to be about creative content creation that was given a free platform for distribution. Unfortunately it has now become so business focused that creativity has been passed over for video creation that is most likely to get lots of views.

I understand the need for copyrights of music and movies that are being sold so that the companies producing these things don't lose out on money. However, it seems like the system that determines how a video is removed and an account deactivated is so devoid of human interaction that more often than not the innocent content creators are punished incorrectly. People can get videos flagged and removed and users get strikes on their accounts way too easily.

Something needs to change. I honestly hope that an alternative shows up but I can't see it actually happening.

Google doesn't make many good decisions, in the end if they fall then someone will have to take up the mantle. Most likely YouTube will be no more eventually, and I am waiting for it.

Ouch. This hurt when I read it because I've always liked that YouTubers can have their videos monetized and receive money for the hard work they put into their videos. And I also have noticed YouTube's quality go down, mainly with copyright claims. I feel like I should have a lot more to say about all these issues, but I don't. Besides this: like construction on roads, these problems need to be solved more quickly to put the users 1st.

Maybe this advertising issue explains why I've been seeing way more ads on the music videos and videos in general I've been watching. Instead of seeing an ad once in a while, I've been seeing 1 for almost every video. I hope Google listens to their complaints so we all can benefit in the end, Google and us.

At this rate, we may as well leave YouTube.

I've discovered a small & unknown alternative that is quite similar: DTube. From what I can gather, it uses Blockchain technology, and that seems to increase protection from censorship. I suggest that YouTubers who suffer from frequent de-monetization move to DTube.
