Which do you pick?

You can only have one console and the games associated with that console for the rest of your life. This does not include any future games and made up futuristic consoles.

Do you go PS2? Super Nintendo? NES? Sega Genesis?

What's your console and why?

You can't double-dip and take emulators for multiple consoles, or consoles modified to play NES + SNES + PlayStation.

Go!

Probably the Super Nintendo.  There are so many great games on there like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Star Fox, etc.  I just so happen to still have one plugged in my old CRT television and it still works great.

for me it would be the Super Nintendo. The SNES had some of the best games on it: Mega Man 7, Mega Man X2, X3, X1, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3, and Super Mario World. In addition the SNES could play Game Boy games with the Super Boy I think it was called adapter. It did not get much better than that. Its still my favorite system of all time.

I can only chose one so that is why I went with the SNES. I would give an honorable mention to the Playstation I that system had some good games as well Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, Mega Man X6 and the MLB series.

I would probably go with the PS3. The console has a great library of every genre, particularly a lot of good exclusives and JRPGs which is a genre I tend to like. A lot of the best PSX and PS2 games are on the PSN store as well or if I'm not allowed to play those, remasters/remakes. Not to mention it's still receiving new games at the moment and at a reduced price compared to the newer consoles. It's new enough to where you can find a lot of graphically stunning games to marvel at still and some that allow for online multiplayer. The PS4 hasn't been able to match it in my view.

If I had to go with one of the ones you posted probably PS2, just because it has one of the widest and most varied game libraries ever (likely due to being the most sold console ever made). I grew up with it and the Mega Drive (Genesis) but I definitely have more nostalgic memories from the PS2. Same as with PS3, you could likely find some good classics having been remastered for it.Again it's variety that settles it for me. Don't get me wrong the SNES and Mega Drive were both great for their time, but you're mostly limited to JRPGs and Platformers in terms of variety and I'm the kind of person who likes to play a lot of different games.

Gimme the Wii.

It's got my favourite game of all time (Twilight Princess) as well as some of the most addictive games I've ever played (Wii Sports Resort, yeah, yeah, get it out of your system). Sure the motion controls can be frustrating but the feeling you get swinging the Wiimote around is unparalleled in gaming.

My favourite console is the Gamecube, but by picking the Wii I get my favourite game and console at the same time, through backwards compatibility.

I would have to go with the Gameboy Advance. It's a handheld console that is portable. It doesn't require a lot of setup and has a lot of the SNES games that you can take with you wherever you go. These games are pretty much the same quality as on the Super Nintendo, but it's portable and requires no wires, television, etc. As long as you have a rechargeable battery pack, this is the way to go.

NES all the way.

There are so many homebrews coming out for it. Plus, there are tons of games and hacks available for it. And when you have a NES Powerpak, like me, you never get bored.

I feel that the current best answer to this question would be the Retro Freak since it allows for hard copies of games from the most systems while having the lowest drop in quality.

It would probably have to be the PlayStation 4 because it has the most games that I actively play and want to play at some point. And to add to that, it lets you play a lot of older games as well, from the PS3 all the way back to games from the 80's.

I love the PS2 (haven't had enough time with PS3 to say yet) and several other systems, but if I'm restricted to one, PS4 is the best choice for my gaming preferences.

Desert island console style, I like it.
I'm inclined to say I'd take the PSX. As far as length goes, it hosts some of my favourite rpgs with immense amounts of replay value. With games like Legend of Mana, Monster Ranchers, Digimon worlds, Final Fanasy's, Azure Dreams, SaGa games, etc etc, i'd feel safe and secure in my options of RPGs. And it hosts some of my favourites of other genres as well such as fighters and racing games. There's a lot to offer in most categories in terms of sheer depth or collection. Tobal 2 is a fighting game with over 200 characters exclusive to the PSX!
Anyway yeah, PS1. I'd be losing out on good arcade games and platformers... but if it was for all time I'd make that sacrifice I think.

It depends on if backwards compatibility is allowed or not, and if it's handheld or not

If backwards compatibility is allowed but it has to be a proper console, then it's a tough call between the Xbox 1, the Wii and the PS2. Although I'd lean more towards the PS2.

If it can be a handheld, then I have to go for the 3DS.

Otherwise, possibly the PS1.

If I needed to choose one console to play games on for the rest of my life, it would be the NES. The majority of the video games I discovered and played throughout my younger years were NES games. Also, there's just something about the graphics and sound style of that console that I like more than any other. If only I could explain it XD

I would probably pick the 3DS. Mainly because there's so many games that I have yet to play that I'm interested, so I know that I would have a lot to play in the future. I really wanted to pick the Vita because it has so many good games, along with movies and music, but the 3DS has many more options tor entertaining games and I would be more likely to use a handheld more often.

I would probably choose the PS2 or the PS3 (particularly if I'm allowed to play PS2 games on it). The PS2 lasted longer than almost any other console, and had quite a few high quality exclusives and games of its time released for it. On the other hand, the PS3 was still pretty good, and I haven't played most of the good games available for it.
I also briefly considered the Wii, but, most of the decent games for Nintendo consoles tend to be first party, meaning it's hard to rely on developers to come up with good games besides the Mario/Pokemon/Zelda of the generation.

I would more than likely get the NES. Literally just about all the games for it are cool and very fun to play. And the fact that a lot of them have hacks now make them even more fun to play. I could play NES games forever and never get bored.

Playstation would be a really close 2nd though. The NES is what I used to play as a kid, and the Playstation is the "modern" version ... and I'm talking about any one of the 4 consoles.

One console? Definitely NES. NES has the best library out of all Nintendo consoles and I'd take those over any others any day.

Until the Switch proves to have absolutely massive games with plenty of replayability, of course. If not NES I'd pick Switch.

I would most likely take the 3DS. You have the eShop for all of the Virtual Console games, therefore not needing an emulator or modding to do so, and it has so many RPGs that I could take years clearing them all. Bravely Default, Bravely Second, Final Fantasy Explorers, Pokemon X, Y Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, and soon to be Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, that's not even scratching the surface of what's on that console. If I couldn't go Nintendo though I'd pick the PS2, such a large library, and there's some Mega Man Collections and a Sonic Mega Collection for my retro game needs, along with some Final Fantasy games.

I would take the Sega Genesis, so many great games for the system and its library really caters to my tastes. I also have a lot of nostalgia for the system (I had one when I was really young well after its heyday) so playing on it got me through some of the roughest parts of my life.
