I remember back when I was in grade 10 our math teacher was teaching us about  algebra  and how he would write down on the chalkboard all these numbers and letters as well as some symbols he would also go on to teach us what the square route of r is but even to this day I still don,t understand algebra to me it has always been very confusing not just to look at but also to try and understand it and while I do know basic math such as adding and subtracting as well as how to multiply and divide I still don,t know anything about algebra in fact I often wonder what it,s even used for although I,m guessing that it might be used in things such as blueprints. I was just wondering if anyone understands algebra and knows how to use it?

I wish algebra would just crawl under a rock and hide forever. It was easy in high school but when I took college algebra it was my first math class in 5 years so it killed me.

Adding and subtracting isn't really algebra lol, that comes before algebra.

Basic algebra is just using variables like X, which when basic is easy to understand and fun and is used in many ways but beyond that it gets so complicated

I used to understand Algebra really well, at least the more basic forms of it anyway.

Back in my last years of Middle School and early High School, I was asked by the staff to be a tutor for other students in Math and Science. I'm not sure how well I'd do with it now that I've been out of school for so long, but back in school I would sleep through my Algebra 2 (and / or 3?) and Calculus classes and still be able to set the curve on most the tests. Math and Science are by far my best subjects, and have always come really naturally. Though off the top of my head, I really have no idea what it's used for in a practical way lol.

I suck at Geometry, I am less sucky on Division, and I am a little less than average on multiplication  but, Algebra and Calculus... They love me and I love them. Taking those two in College was far easier than my entire life in school working with Geometry, division, and multiplication- not that they are too hard but, I don't learn what I don't care for so, I am glad they didn't affect me in college much- heck we barely even touch them as much. I love exponents, Pythagorean Theorem, radicals, nth root, and my favorite Quadratic Equation. Logarithms are okay- I am not too crazy about  them but, I did enjoy graphing them by hand.

Algebra is my best buddy (among all the math subjects). I can't count how many times I ended up having to use basic and complex algebra stuff in my other math subjects, heck even Graphics subjects, and it makes me really thankful both to my algebra professor and to myself for studying seriously at that time.

I don't really like Calculus that much, but I'd rather have Calculus than Statistics. No offense meant to people who like Statistics Math but I just can't look at it without thinking it's kind of boring compared to other math subjects. Operations Research Math is much more enjoyable than pure Statistics.
