It's nice to show someone how much you care for them. Love is a good way to do that, and it's emotionally fufilling. My question: can people love each other when they first meet? Can they find the one meant for them by chance? Or does love need to grow? Does it need time? Ponder it.

Depends on how that first meeting is.

If it's just a brief encounter, I doubt you can really fall in love with someone. However, if the encounter lasts long enough, you have enough time to open up and discover the kind of person they are, which is what I believe love should be based upon.

Technically, love does need time. You need to know the other person well, and sometimes you need several encounters which can last for weeks or even months. Plus, the more you know a person, the more you can fall in love with them, so even if love at first sight exists it can still get stronger through time.

I don't think one can really fall in love at first sight. There's a difference between being attracted to someone and loving someone, and I don't think the latter can be achieved through one conversation.

As acquaintances, friends or even as a couple you learn to love each other by getting to know each other better and by sharing time with each other.

Well i pretty much fell for my ex girlfriend when i first met her in a bar and it wasn't just the beer that caused that,it really was love at first sight and luckily she felt the same way and it lasted 3 and a half years,so it worked for me but might differ for other people

No I don't, at least not first sight as in the second you first see them. I could see a person developing a crush on someone the first time they meet them if you get to know them well enough. Still I would think that's closer to being attracted to that person than anything else. I don't really believe you can get to know a person well enough from just a conversation like that to "truly" love them.

I'd say love for another person is something that develops over time, as you share various experiences and get to know each other.

In my opinion, it is possible for people to love each other even though they have just met, although that usually does not happen very frequently. lol Also, it is possible for people to find the one meant for them by chance (and I know this because that's how some of the people around me got together in the first place), but again, the chances of something like that happening can sometimes vary quite a bit depending on how an individual usually seeks out relationships and opportunities. As for whether or not love needs time to grow, I personally think it does because it usually takes time to get to know someone well enough to determine whether or not they are actually a good match for you. Thus, even if you think that someone is the perfect one for you, you might still want/need to continue to talk to them and become acquainted with their likes and dislikes in order to be certain that they are exactly what you think they are, or what you think you love. To me, trying to get to know someone and finding out that you like them more and more with every new detail that you learn about them is akin to letting your love for them grow over time.

No, not at all.

Love is so much more than "I feel so amazing when I'm around you!" It's an undying, unwavering commitment. Think of it this way (and I say this all the time, I know): you break a leg. It hurts like nobody's business, but the pain you feel is NOT the broken leg, instead it's a by-product of the broken leg. Say you go to the doctor and he or she gives you some insanely powerful pain medication. Now you no longer FEEL the pain, but your leg is still broken.

It's the same with real love. When you love someone there WILL be times that you do not feel that amazing feeling, and there will probably be times when you fight that you even dislike them, but you would still never hurt them nor would you sit back and let someone else hurt them. If they needed help you would do what you had to regardless, because no matter how you feel, you have a deep seated sense of loyalty and devotion to them.

The best example for those that believe is Jesus. A song I once heard summed it up beautifully when it said "Jesus didn't die for you because it was fun. He hung there for love because it had to be done. And IN SPITE OF THE ANGUISH His word was fulfilled. because love is not a feeling, it's an act of your will."
In that moment of suffering I'm sure He didn't feel all that great when He looked at the people mocking Him, but He lived them still.

And so when a married couple that truly loves one another fight so badly that they can't stand each other at that moment, they stay together because even though they don't FEEL good around each other right then, they still LOVE each other.
Love certainly feels wonderful when things are going right, but when things aren't going right, love hurts like mad. But it's all still a feeling that stems from the same love. And when you don't feel it at all, don't panic: as long as you feel a devotion and loyalty to them, it's still there, and soon you'll feel it again.

I've fallen for the "love at first sight" and it lasted about 3 months, and that was partly my fault, but she ended up being a liar, and almost a bit of a psycho. Sure some people have said "Well you didn't know she was going to be a nutcase". True, but at the same time, I should of gave it more time. With that being said, currently I am seeing someone that after about 3 months of just hanging out, we became more then just friends. Although there has been some issues here and there, things are great right now, it's just I don't get to see her often, because she works nights, I work early mornings, and really it's just weekends, and that was kinda stressful on me, and it was really bothering her.

So I guess you can go with the "love at first sight" and it does work for people, but I am really 50/50 on it. Sometimes it can work, sometimes it won't work.

if you fall in love at first sight that means you know nothing about them, so the relationship probably won't last. you'll find out things about them or they'll find out things about you. most of my relationships developed after at least a few months of us knowing each other

Love at first sight is sorta stupid. If you do run into someone you like, arrange a time and place to get to know each other before doing anything else. That is like rule #1 in the relationship rules.
And the outback bowl goes to, wait for it, wait for it!

Okay, we need to clarify something here. Love at first sight is NOT love, it is infatuation and isn't the same. Love is where you care incredibly deeply for someone for selfless reasons. Infatuation is being mesmerized by their presence and worshipping the ground they walk on due to hormones or chemicals or something like that.

So no, "love" at first sight does not exist. You're actually talking about "stupidity at first sight".

Anyone who actually believes this stuff is true is just asking for a bad relationship just waiting to happen. It is stupid, and I don't understand, and never will understand, how or why anyone would do this, but that's none of my business. I remember hearing about a ton of examples where the relationships went sour because they didn't actually get to know each other and they jumped straight into things without thinking about the consequences that could follow. Hopefully anyone who has done something like that before learned a valuable lesson. Either that, or they got killed by the psycho that they fell in love with...

There is no love at first sight. I think the movie "Frozen" addressed it pretty well. You don't know what the other person looks like in the morning. You don't know how hygienic they are. You don't know if they are nice to animals and waitstaff. You don't know if they have bad habits like cocaine, driving drunk, or beating children.

Sure, there's attraction. And sure, there can be passion and some really good s*x with someone you just met because there's a level of mutual engagement on a physical level.

Love? Nope. Love is only developed over time with shared experiences and growth together. That's love.
