Ok so I did a thread about boxing so as said I was to make one about karate and martial arts too. What do you like about this? For me its great self defence. Once I have gotten the hang of boxing this is the next thing I will be learning. I figured to do one thing at a time instead of both or it will confuse me. Anyways I know two people who was talking about it so I am going to summon them here. I came to liking this sport because of the Chinese and Japanese people. I've seen films of it, and said one day I will learn it.

I don't really know anything about martial arts, and I'm not entirely sure I care too much for it. It seems like a really impractical application nowadays when most fights are fought using the mind and not fighting styles or techniques. Although I understand a lot about martial arts is to understand the opponents psyche, I can't really get into it. I have other hobbies, like wanting to learn how to waltz.

Well, I do have a 1st degree black belt in Taekwondo and I have been practicing Taekwondo since I was about 4 years old... Fun times. I was also an assistant leader in some Taekwondo classes for the lower belt levels (particularly red and brown if I remember correctly) 

But after I went to college, I had to stop going to my Taekwondo classes thanks to living in a college dorm and being super busy. But I do work out and practice alone sometimes when I have the time... 

It is pretty much fun and good for my health, while can be very useful if I actually get into some really scary situation. But hopefully I wouldn't have to actually use it to defend myself from bad guys... You never know what can happen in college.

I think I would go with Hapkido and Jujitsu. I decided to take a look at all of them on youtube the forms I mean. triune if this was to actually happen lol I should warn you.....I am slow if I learn something new. It will take me time if I don't get it right but I would eventually would get the moves. Also sometimes I am quick to learn certain things when I see it. And....I don't have a good balance that's what I want to work on since being born with one leg longer than the other. I tend to fall sometimes because of that.

In the case of Karate,during the invasion of Okinawa,the Japanese set up a occupation force and confiscated all metal on the island to strengthen their position. Now,that made it tough to defend yourself or to even doing daily tasks. So,they learned Karate to defend themselves from their aggressors. I think many like martial arts for the self defense and for discipline.

Martial arts are for defense,as you know. You are right,you do not know if you need something more to put an attacker down. I hope you never have to use it,but if you do,aim for the weak points in the body.

I've never been into karate or any martial arts. I don't really like contact things, which is part of the reason I quit playing basketball. (Yes, I'm a wuss .) I have heard a lot about it, since some of my friends were into that stuff. I always thought it was really cool how the belt system thing in karate worked. The color progression is pretty cool, and I always wanted to wear different colored belts like my karate friends when I was younger, lol. I prob won't get into any martial arts classes, unless my future kids want to do it, and want me to learn as well.
