Well,Nintendo is at it again.
I guess they do not like ANYONE making anything with their games.

Nintendo is at it again. They have just axed a ton of fan made remakes and sequels an are throwing their weight around.

http://thenextweb.com/gaming/2016/09/06/nintendo-dissapoints-500-fan-games/

I think they let Pokemon GO inflate their already massive egos. Way to go Ninten-dumb.

Oldschool777 : While I do not like that they are doing this, they do have the right to do so as all the fan games do not fall under fair use. People scream it is but it isn't. While I am unhappy they took down AM2R as well as other games, they had every right to do so.

This is the reason I stopped buying Nintendo games. They always find a way to screw someone even if what they're doing doesn't hurt their company at all. They even took down the Metroid remake on the Metroid series' birthday. If I was a game developer I'd be happy to see free fan games pop up. But of course all they want is money so they think taking down these games will help their poor sales.
At least all of these games are still somewhere on the internet.

I saw this just a few hours ago. I'm really disappointed about this, but I've kind of come to expect this. Especially from Nintendo. Like I've said before, though, they may have the right to do this, if they're going to, they'd better give us a reason why they're getting rid of a perfectly good game and not giving us anything comparable in return.

Also, like Earthwarrior said, at least they'll be somewhere on the internet. Nintendo can't completely get rid of them.

If we want to let Nintendo how we feel, refuse to buy any of their merchandise. That includes Pokemon GO.

It is like I have said, the only thing keeping their heads above water is Pokemon. But they have to change how they do things from the top on down. They are not the only ones screwing up. Capcom screwed over fans countless times,Konami is doing it now,EA has done that for years. They forget that we,the fans and gamers, are the ones that decide their fates. Let us decide their fate with our wallets and refuse to open the wallet for Nintendo.

I feel like this is really pointless whining. They do have a reason to take it down. Is it not obvious? They are making remakes and porting old games onto the Wii U and New 3DS so they are getting rid of the copies so people HAVE to buy it from them.

DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS UNTIL THEY GIVE US BACK THESE THINGS. Ya.... if you are like that then you are not even a Nintendo fan to begin with since you only want the free stuff. Nothing you do will change what they do. Just buy the games you want from Nintendo and do not buy the games you do not want. Also, have you ever thought of EMAILING OR MESSAGING NINTENDO? Instead of just not buying their products you should ask them via email and tell them why you are upset so they can improve.

Let me get this straight. You are not buying things from Nintendo because of business practices online even though you clearly want the games? You make no sense at all. (Sorry I kinda turned this into a rant)

awesomeguy279 : It's impossible for someone to tell Nintendo how to improve. The executives wouldn't know a good idea if it was right in front of their face. If we sent Nintendo emails the people who read them wouldn't care and if they did the people they'd talk to about them wouldn't care either. You said it yourself in your post, nothing we do will change what they do. Taking games (most aren't even remakes) down from one website would help because there are hundreds of other places to get them.
Its not like Nintendo taking down these fan games is the only reason many people are angry with them. They've done lots of other things to piss us off already. I'll open an emulator before spending another penny on a nintendo game.

Oldschool777 : Pokemon Go is free to play and doesn't have ads so if someone plays it and doesn't spend any money on the game the companies involved wont make any money.

I'm not really sure how to feel at this point. Sad to say its something you have to get used to really. And awesomeguy is right in a way complaining about it wouldn't really help. Like Nintendo is Nintendo they stay how they are. They have done many horrible things that have made people angry, and yes people enjoy these remakes of games that are made free I see. The only thing of Nintendo I would keep on playing is the wii really, the one they abandoned in a way. '-'

Fan games are literally free exposer on the Internet of Nintendo's franchises. I really doubt that they're hurting Nintendo's sales (if anything, they may be helping it), and if Nintendo would actually examine the fan games instead of taking them down and giving Nintendo a (rather well deserved) bad rep with these sorts of things, then they could find out what people want to play. And make a game that a lot of people could potentially buy, therefore helping them.

The logic here of Nintendo confuses me. And they probably won't stop doing this anytime in the future, so better start keeping an archive of these fan games I suppose.

Well, here's the thing. Is it bad that they are taking down fan games which are non-profit? Absolutely. Do they have right to take them down? Of course they do.
Fair use applies when you take a concept of a game, with different assets. Names, art, sounds, story, etc... Can not be stolen. With the Metroid, it was a remake so it used Nintendo's copyrighted characters, music, art, etc...
Pokemon Uranium, for example, have the name of the original Pokemon franchise.

You've got to understand that, even if it is a non-profit game and made from love, it still has the potential to hurt the company a lot. More than most people realize. That doesn't justify their actions 100%, but it might shed some light on the reason they are doing so. There has to be a better way though, I agree on that. But attacking the company isn't going to do any good, either.

Maguc :
18mlivingston :

I don't think anyone was really questioning their legal rights, I think the point being made here is that just because something is legal doesn't make it right and just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Let's analyze this for a moment.... One of the largest video game companies in the world is throwing their legal weight around and taking down fan made- let me say that again: FAN MADE games by underfunded, understaffed, independent development teams that aren't even capitalizing on their work because they feel like they're a threat. This tells me that, at the very least, Nintendo themselves don't think very much of their own work. Over defensiveness and paranoia are tell tale signs of a guilty conscious.

awesomeguy279 : It's a matter of principle. Hardcore "fans" are part of the problem here because they're the ones that let massive companies think they can take advantage of the rest of us and we won't notice. They capitalize on blind zeal and nostalgia. Now, I don't want you to take that personally, I'm just saying that when the bottom line is the bottom line, everything suffers.

earthwarrior : It is still supporting Nintendo. I cannot condone it when they issue cease and desist orders to fan made games, many which are done out of love, not money.

Maguc : I get it,it is their IP's,therefore, they are well within their rights. But at the same time,Nintendo is sitting on many IP's. If the management at Nintendo had a brain, they would either hire these guys or offer to buy the game from them.

awesomeguy279 : I am just calling it what it is: Nintendo drunk with power that Pokemon GO has given them. If you want to think of it as whining,be my guest. But they have honestly forgotten what made them great in the first place. Fun fact for you,the console and gaming side of Nintendo? That was done to save their company, which was a manufacturer of hanafuda playing cards.

This seems like old news.
They had a notice since Aug 2nd... so we knew this was coming.

earthwarrior said it already. This is some dumb exec thinking that if he takes things like this down, their sales will somehow go up.
It really doesn't make sense, since a lot of the games they have been taking down haven't been available for sale for years now or if they are the virtual marketplace, have dried up.

I think the only reason they did this was to help sales of the Nintendo mini. Some might buy it for the nostalgia (and that is what Nintendo is betting on),but a lot of us are a bit more jaded, and see Nintendo for what they are.

I should stop buying Nintendo games from now on. Anyway, i've indeed noticed that Nintendo does everything for money. They even put copyrights on their video game music if you post them on YouTube without permission. Now, i can understand the permission part, but copyrights? I think since the creator of Mario (Can't remember who that was though) died, Nintendo has been going crazy a lot. This, the copyrights on their music, what happened to Vizzed with their retro games here... It all is a bit odd. But indeed, i think they say "Hey, we need money, money, money!" while making their games.

I'm a capitalist at heart and the problem here is that the people are using Nintendo's intellectual property to generate their own income. They're running ads and getting paid for those, right? The traffic they generate through usage is making them money. It might not be much but it's a principle, not the dollars. And if the games have no advertising, people are still getting traffic, they're building their own reputations and names by making tweaks on existing copyrighted property. That's called plagiarism in college and you get kicked out of school if they see you do it.

Everyone is piggybacking off Nintendo's success and Nintendo is protecting their brand. It's not like people haven't ever seen the company do this before. Why not come up with your own original ideas and create them from there? I've seen enough interesting indie games on Steam and other places; it seems like tweaking Nintendo is just riding on their coattails for your own success.

It's stealing, more or less. That's why Nintendo is acting the way they are.

And let's be honest, how many people are really not going to buy the next Pokémon game that comes out? Or the next Nintendo product? Everyone says, "Wow! They're terrible!" and then you all go back and play Pokémon or whatever other games you have from them. And Nintendo makes more money than all of us, so their executives obviously are succeeding, no matter what they do. They may be acting like jerks from our standpoint but if they let this happen, what else happens? They're taking a firm aggressive stand because they need to. Otherwise, how many thousands of games which mirror their games pop up and take revenue?

Let's take a stand. No one ever play Pokémon again or talk about Pokémon again, same goes for Mario, from now forever.

Ghostbear does have a point, albeit a shallow one. I think what kills me is that Nintendo does not see the love and time that was invested in such games, all they see is people playing their games for free. If Nintendo wants to win back our trust (unlikely),they need to hire these talented people or offer to buy the game from them. That way it is a win-win. I think Nintendo needs to think of ways to salvaging their brand, because the only things keeping them alive are Pokemon and the DS/3DS. The Wii U was a huge flop and unless the NX can seriously blow minds and be easy to make games for, this could be the end for them.

But I still say, vote with your wallets or purses. Refuse to buy anything from them and let them rot.

Ghostbear1111 : The real deal here is that these games weren't made with the intent of furthering anyone's career or to make money, they were a tribute to the franchise from their biggest fans. Granted, sites like Game Jolt do make ad revenue from the traffic it brings but I'd almost be willing to bet money they would've done it even if the game was hosted on an ad-free site. You do have a valid point, though. An independent developer with the talent of the guy that made AM2R could make their own game and  be successful. That's why there are spiritual predecessors. I think it would be poetic justice if he literally beat them at their own game.

Nintendo became Ninten-Dumb after admitting that the WII u was badly advertised and for sticking with the motion control gimmick. So generally I don't care what they do.

Let's just shove some more Mario down people's throat, that will get them to buy the NX.
