In a little more than two months, Warner Bro's is releasing a special 6 movie collection of all the Lord of the Ring and The Hobbit movies. The 6 disk DVD set will sell for $36, the 6 disk Blu Ray will sell for $69 while a massive 30 disk Limited Edition collection of all the movies in every format, tons of extras, and limited edition goodies will sell for an incredible $800.

The Limited Edition collection comes with special water color paintings and an impressive book, but I find it hard to believe that even some of the biggest fans will cough up that much money.

I can already picture some celebrities that will very easily purchase this right away. I mean when you have a lot of money, plenty to waste and you're a big fan this is just a must do. Also, there are many wealthy people who would not bother buying this at all specially collector's items. I personally would not spend $80 in a movie or a set of movies ever so imagine $800. I find it a waste of money a big one. I can think of so much I'd rather do with that money. If you had money to throw away would you buy it?

jlove92 : I would probably do 80 or go a little past 100 if the collection comes with enough goodies, but if it just comes with the movie, maybe a few special features, and even a soundtrack or whatever, I wouldn't even pay 40, but if a collection comes with special cases, booklets, maybe even a little figure or something, Id spend a decent amount but nowhere close to 800.

Hmm honestly I think Warner Bros should seriously rethink re-releasing all that content, do they really think it will turn a profit, weigh in all the promotion budget, distribution costs, storage costs etc and then think about it, at the time of release  it'll be up on every torrent site (pirate bay, two torrents, bit torrent etc. and bootleg movies sites) its a serious gamble to take now a days given how technology savvy people can acquire copyright protected content and distribute and make it mass available to everyone and anyone, not to mention the average casual fan won't pay $800 let alone $36 for a movie especially when you know how to get it 100% free.

So I guess to bottom line my point, Warner Bros don't release all this content unless you find a way to do it cheaper and to turn a profit and recover from profit loss due to theft.

Oh, i'm sure that there are tons of hardcore geeks with more money than common sense who will gladly throw their money at that. Also, that sounds like a pretty awesome collection, but 800$? No, that's a bit too much for ME.

I am sure there will be some hardcore nerds that will cough up almost a month's rent for that. I personally think anyone who buys that needs their head examined. Who is going to buy that just for the option to use different formats and some extras? If I had 800 dollars burning a hole in my pocket,I would rather get the DVD version and if I seriously wanted some LOTR or Hobbit memorabilia,I would buy a replica weapon or something. Maybe this sucker just for the hell of it.

$800 seems like a ripoff considering Frodo ruined the ring in a smelting accident.

I could care less about the painting, the movies or the book. I want my precious.

I'm on that for sure because I have a couple thousand laying around so I can just drop $800 and be like whoop whoop.

I don't like LOTR so I'd say no. But even for something I am a hardcore fan of (The Simpsons) I'd still have to say no at this time. $800 is just an overly excessive amount.

At first I thought it was a typo and you meant $80

That's a ridiculous price of a rip off I mean.....I wouldn't buy that. It wouldn't really make any sense for me too, but as said those who have the money like celebs will be able to buy the regardless of how much it is really. :/

I would never pay $800 for 6 movies. If there is a set with 30 discs, I would expect the price to be maybe $150-200, but $800? That's insane! Target is selling the same set for $460, which is still a lot. although you can get it for $710 at books-a-million.
Paying that much for movies and extras is bad.
Look at the Alien Anthology. It had all four movies (all with original theatrical versions and directors cuts) and 50 hours of extras across 6 discs, only for about $30.
